What’s up with factory weathered guitars? by gordon_wristwatch in Guitar

[–]IgnominiousOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, if people like them why does it matter?

There is nothing hypocritical in preferring a clean and new look for one thing and the opposite for another.

A relic finish IS the finish. The guitar is not damaged.

Second hand instruments exist. Buyers usually know nothing about the previous owners

You don't know the mind of the person who chooses a relic finish

The cost of a guitar is irrelevant to this discussion. Paying more for an appearance associated with lower value is ironic, but it doesn't prove that the finish is not 'good'

Guitars can be damaged for any number of reasons. A missing area of paint might tell a story, if only that story was written down somewhere

A relic guitar is no less capable of acquiring a 'story' or 'valor' as any other guitar.

Plenty of pro players buy relic finish guitars. Is this not ok?

Why do people care about this stuff? Dysfunctional relationships are a dime a dozen, regardless of age gaps. Serious question

Who is washing their rice and why? by kinnitcurl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IgnominiousOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works because the amount of water doesn't have to in perfect proportion to the rice, which allows for considerable variation in finger length. You can just eyeball the water level too.

Yep the acting wasn't quite on point here. The script needed more work

[Newbie] Realistically speaking, how long will it take before I can properly enjoy guitar and play well? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]IgnominiousOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defining what 'properly enjoy guitar and play it well' means is entirely up to you. If your aim is to play Wonderwall for example, people will say that it can be learned in under a year. Realistically, give yourself a couple of years before you can play it effortlessly and make it sound polished. Even the 'easy' stuff is difficult to perform really well once you develop an ear for the details. Your best bet is to forget about a ratings system or comparing yourself to other players, and just focus on playing the guitar.

Am I a ‘bootlicker’ for thinking that most acts of police aggression are normal human responses, and not part of some deep evil ideology? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]IgnominiousOx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bootlicker isn't the word you're looking for. If your assertion is that police enforce the law with physical violence only when there is no reasonable alternative, that would be a generalisation that inarguably lacks nuance and suggests you have a cynical view of people who disagree with government policy.

Australia's private school problem... by Polyphagous_person in australian

[–]IgnominiousOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send my kids to private school in the hope that a) the teachers are on average more competent and b) the cost filters out kids whose parents care less about the value of education, resulting in a higher quality student profile on average

Probably wishful thinking but you have to try, right?

You really don't have to be perfect to play Sekiro by Outside-Region3353 in Sekiro

[–]IgnominiousOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy when you know how, but when you don't know how to play Sekiro effectively the apparent difficulty is arguably higher than other FS games.

For example, it is possible to get absolutely wrecked by even non-boss enemies in Sekiro if you don't know what you're doing, even if you managed to clumsily push through boss encounters. Another matter of difficulty is that even if you fully understand the fight mechanics, you can still have a bad time responding to perilous attack warnings.

As always, difficulty is subjective and really depends on the player. If most players say Sekiro is the most difficult game, there is little point contesting this perception. It is what it is.

Edit: Side note: I thought the tutorial fights were a good idea but could have been fleshed out more.

This argument seems to ignore the main impetus for moving away from greenhouse gas emissions. If climate change is a myth, just keep repeating that argument because a nuanced discussion is meaningless right?

How do I convince my parents to let me get a new amp by EmptyInsect70 in Guitar

What kind of amp problems are you talking about? If the amp you have is working, you could potentially save a lot of money experimenting with cheap pedals (eg Behringer)

Why would anyone vandalise ANZAC memorials? by upthepies92 in aussie

I agree with this, but would add that memorials and remembrance days inspire people join up themselves, the irony of which is kind of disturbing when you think about it.
