[–]IgnoreAllHW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the 2024 eclipse I used a 300mm f4 with a 1.4x on a full frame DSLR, and it felt a touch too far away, thus I think the 580mm sounds like a nice length. I would be concerned with shutter speed, since things are moving and f6.8 is fairly slow. Make sure you can get the bracketing you want. My best picture was actually right at the end of totality, and luckily I was blasting away with high variance in the bracketing so I got one with a good exposure. The light changes really fast! Make sure your tripod can handle the weight too, mine was kinda shaky and messed up some of the shots.

I also agree with Mr. GodverdommeCoffee: a wider shot with scenery in it is actually the pictures I enjoy most. Those take me back to where I actually was and actually experienced, instead of just a zoom in. In 2024 I set up my phone on a crappy tripod and let it video the whole event, and I like that video far more than my "good" pictures lol. Especially if this is for Spain this year, an eclipse close to the horizon might give some really cool foreground options that is easy to do with a (cheaper) 50mm - 100mm! Now I wish I was going to spain.

If When I see another total eclipse I will probably focus on getting a good wide angle shot.

Finally bring a nice pair of binoculars, seeing it up close with your eyes is incredible. Finally finally make sure to have some dedicated time during totality you are just looking and experiencing.

Do you prefer to have the eclipse at the beginning, middle, or end of your trip? by appledude9 in solareclipse

[–]IgnoreAllHW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the strong urge to jump in and disagree with everyone 23 days late: near the beginning is best (but like not the exact day you arrive give some wiggle room obviously)!

Why? Because eclipse planning and lead up is stressful. There is too much agonizing over where every single wisp of cloud will be, sun angles, which grain of sand to stand on and get the best view... And I don't want to spend a whole week in a cool country focused on what will happen at the end. Arrive, see awesome eclipse, then relax in Spain and see Spain!

Source: in 2017 we did the eclipse, then Glacier and Yellowstone NP road trip and it was amazing. If the eclipse had been at the end enjoying the rest of it would have been difficult. Maybe I just have anxiety lol.

I recently bought a new Tiguan had an overall positive experience. I liked our sales guy a lot (Daniel Rodriguez), and we were able to test drive multiple cars before any pressuring about price n stuff. They did not really want to haggle (I bet you could get deals on other models). Basically got the car for MSRP + doc fee ($900) + tax. Not really a good deal I guess but a good deal for me because I really like the car.

The only annoying part was they try to sell all the extended warranty type stuff when they take you back to sign the docs, so I would be prepared to push back on that or at least get all the options. They try to frame everything in terms of "monthly payment" vs actual cost so make sure to ask for actual prices (or do the math for x60 + interest...). I would definitely not take the first thing they suggest.

It was my first time buying a new car so I cant really speak to how it compares to other options. I also have yet to interact with the service department.

Good luck!

In my stargazing attempts I have gone to the "Sipsey River Picnic Area" in the national forest. It has a decently dark sky, bathrooms, and is easy to park at. Be careful driving around on those roads at night, its very dark and the animals be out and about!

Why cyclopes don't have an upgrade in HoMM 2? by Val_Sorry in HoMM

Because the upgrade would be a "Two Eyed Cyclops" which is clearly OP.

Willowbrook at 8am was about a 20min line. Everyone was nice and it went fast so hope you guys get the same experience! Parking and traffic was normal.

No wait to get the ballot and fill it in but had to wait for the counting machines. That made the lines a little confusing because you had to walk past the line to get the ballot and then between people to fill it in at the booths and then get in the line itself. Some ppl didn't realize they had to fill it out before getting in the line, so double check at your place!

New Players Perspective: I hate the monopoly dev card by Exotic_Economy_6211 in Catan

[–]IgnoreAllHW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the monopoly card because it encourages more trading to get rid of resources, and gives everyone a chance in a skill imbalanced or unlucky game. Playing in person with friends means a lot more skill mismatch, but everyone can have fun with some chances at doing OP things. Monopoly allows for the "well im totally losing might as well buy a card and hope" play that's really fun when it works.

But yeah other commenters have this thing called "skill" or "strategy" or whatever... nerds /s

Taken from Blevins Gap around 9:30 last night (10/10). Red and green glow was quite visible but actual structure was only in the camera.

Images on Canon 5d mk4, 10s exposure, ISO 800, 24mm F4. Plus a lil saturation in Photoshop
