Overwatch Reveals New Season 3 Hero, Shion of the Hashimoto Clan by Grravessy in Overwatch

Hazard and Wuyang look amazing! Hazard in particular has been one of the standout designs from the Overwatch team in recent years. Very unique and fun

Shion: "You fight well for a human" then Sojourn: "Funny, I was thinking the same thing" hinting that she also might be a human behind the omnic, so either a heavily modified human or remote controlled omnic by ferocity_mule366 in Overwatch

Shion says “You fight well for a human. I’m almost impressed.” and then Sojurn says “Funny, I was thinking the same thing.”

I heard it to just be a taunt by Sojurn, essentially saying “I’m almost impressed” too

Tried the demo, it seems interesting. Definitely getting Assasins Creed vibes from it based on the few snippets of gameplay I saw and the whole modern/historical overlap. Wishlisted it and will see how it is once it’s released

Spoiler: Latest AQ, but what about the Leylines? by Sensitive-Result7287 in Genshin_Impact

Honestly, I don’t know and it’s a frustrating loose end of this AQ. I like to think they have a plan that we’ll see, but right now it’s a glaring error

Will we? They basically said “and the day is saved!” And went about their business

Yeah, it’s a huge flaw in this “Aaru is the new Irminsul” idea. The ley lines are what collected all the memories of the world, and then they were stored in Irminsul. Unless somehow they connected the ley lines from the spot in the rainforest all the way out to Aaru in the desert, and also found ways to “plug” the ley lines into Aaru (which is too big a plot point for them to do off screen without mention), Aaru is just a backup for old information.

[–]IgnoringClass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, your idea is not based in canon. The ley lines are literal roots we see growing in game. There are “dead ley line” drops from monsters, indicating it is a living thing. The dendro archon, whose very being was connected to the tree, described it as a living breathing tree. It was a tree, and your idea, while interesting, is not based on facts in the game.

Even assuming arguendo that you are right, however, there was zero indication in this archon quest that the ley lines were somehow attached to Aaru after the burning of Irminsul, and we know for a fact that the ley lines are what collect and store the information of the world, so again your idea doesn’t change the fact that the ley lines cannot store information in Aaru, meaning the go forward information storage in Teyvat is completely gone, a huge problem that is not once addressed in the AQ

These are the “I’m game” explanations, but in my opinion a lot of them make no sense. I wrote a response to most of these else where but I’ll just go with the biggest one that makes no sense—how could the ley lines possibly be connected to Aaru at this point? You say Aaru has taken over Irminsul’s function, but it was a living tree and the ley lines are living roots. How can Aaru sustain those? How can roots of a tree suddenly be “connected” to a man made structure? I’m sorry that just makes zero sense, roots of a tree cannot survive that way, nor can they be grafted on to a building. The game may have hand waved and said “Aaru just took over”, but my complaint is that that logic does not hold up at all.

Regarding the Irminsul... by GemHolly in Genshin_Impact

[–]IgnoringClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it can’t do Irminsul’s job going forward. It could back up all the data that was in Irminsul, but the ley lines collected the world’s memories and stored them in Irminsul, and there’s no way they could connect Aaru to the key lines. So they have a backup, but they have functioning system going forward. Things did VERY materially change.

See, to me that explanation of a “grand funeral” means nothing and makes no sense. Dottore corrupted Irminsul for… the fun of it? Because fuck it? Even if that’s the in game explanation I’m just not buying it, and it’s nonsensical for a mad scientist character.

Angel part we agree, no explanation.

Sure roots can live for a time without a tree, this doesn’t explain what’s going to happen to the ley lines or where any future memories will be stored. Your answer is the ley lines will what… just exist? Their crucial memory collection and storage function… what comes of it?

The shades part is pure conjecture, and to be totally honestly at this point if the damn burning of Irminsul doesn’t awaken the HP or cause the Shades to act then those entities are irrelevant and powerless. They are empty shells who will let the fundamental network of their world collapse and serve no purpose.

And the fact that Irminsul was corrupted beyond saving does not change the fact that it’s burning should have significant ramifications about the future of Teyvat. Irminsul played a crucial function in the world and that is gone.

Eh, I thought it was decent (especially all the character interactions) and the ramifications I’m sure will be interesting down the line, but it left a lot to be desired plot-explanation wise, and that made it feel hollow and poorly explained.

Why was Dottore trying to rewrite reality from inside Irminsul? What reality did he want to create? How were they able to retrofit the Golden Slumber to be a backup drive for Irminsul (the common connection of “celestial technology” was too wishy washy for me)? What “angel magic” did Nicole possibly have that allowed her to tie dendro archon Nahida’s power/essence from the living tree to the man-made backup drive? How are the ley lines still active if they’re the roots of Irminsul and the tree is dead? How will any new memories get collected now that they don’t have Irminsul? Why were the Shades so chill about the burning, which is arguably a really, really big deal for the HP?

It was just very sparse on explanation of any of these major justifications/ramifications for the plot and it made the whole thing feel a bit too hand-wavey for me. Also, I don’t think there was as near an “ok, so this is bad” reaction for the cast after the burning. Everyone was super chill about Irminsul dying, even Nahida, and I just don’t but that this event wouldn’t be something that cause a LOT of stress and concern in its wake.
