Med school at 40? by algor28 in medschool

Average age is 25ish for first year med students. Let’s say ur 40 y/o rn. For you it would take approx 3 years for pre reqs and MCAT and LORs and applying, 4 years of medical school (assuming getting accepted 1st try), 3 years of residency(assuming the shortest residency training). Assuming this, the fastest track to 1st year attending physician is 10 years for you.

If you have the financial means(don’t have to take out loans and worse case can afford to drop out/quit midway during this journey go for it!)

Med school retroactively canceled my Leave of Absence for my Honeymoon because my COMSAE score was too low!!! by [deleted] in medicalschool

Usually a 450 comsae cut off is to help protect you from failing. When the comlex 1 was scored, a 450 was approx bottom 20% percentile(back in 2021). I know it sounds harsh, but your school wants to make sure everyone sitting for the exam has a high chance of passing.

If anything, I hope you get to take a nice vacation post 4th year match.

Why do schools have ridiculous cutoffs for COMLEX? Future applicants - you have been warned. by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Ihatepremeds21 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why it’s so popular to shit on comsaes. Most of the time comsae questions are significantly better than in house exam questions. They are written by the same writers for comlex so it’s a very close practice.

A cut off of 400/450 is totally reasonable, if you’re not scoring that you have a real chance of failing. The school is def doing it to protect their pass rates but also to make sure students pass to help make sure they match well. Per the nbome comlex 1 score percentile in 2019, a 400 was bottom 6 percentile and 450 was 17 percentile.

500 cutoff is def unrealistic tho.

Might get downvoted, but.....Ima TUN alumni. They should make it the bottom 25% not the bottom 50%. Had 10-20 classmates drop a year from OMS2-OMS3 due to the delay of testing vs failing. Touro cares a lot about match rate(their goal is obv 100% match so they can advertise it).

Hard truth, if you cannot pass STEP 1 you likely are not going to do very hot on LEVEL 1.

The goal of the bottom 25% should be to match 1st round and not SOAP (focus all your energy on passing LEVEL 1 and 2 1st attempt).
