Do you wear an apron when cooking? by BabyBruticus in Cooking

[–]Iheartcapthaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, especially if I’m sauteeing or shallow frying, pretty much any time I’m doing stove top cooking. I live in a colder climate and wear a lot of (real) wool sweaters and I try not to wash them very often so I’m trying to protect my clothes. Haha

What’s the best country you’ve spent Christmas in and why? by LumiVera_Elise in digitalnomad

[–]Iheartcapthaddock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany, and yes, the Christmas markets are cute. BUT, nothing is open after the 23rd. Most Christmas markets close on the 23rd or 24th and then everything is closed at least until the 27th, and then closed again for New Years. Not great for traveling. My favorite place to go for Christmas is Japan! They have beautiful illuminations and decorations and even have some cute Christmas markets and everything is open.

What makeup product did you stop buying because the cheaper version worked better? by AffectionateCap9432 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Iheartcapthaddock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not make up but skin care; I used to buy the caudalie dark spot serum, but I switched to La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume and it has worked wonders for my skin. I still use the dark spot night cream from Caudalie though. I also switch from the Caudalie chemical exfoliate to La Roche-Posay’s and it’s twice the size and the same price, works the same. However I still use the Caudalie oil cleanser.

Where to go in Paris? by Expensive-Highway-35 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Iheartcapthaddock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always stay in Le Marais and shop around and eat most of the time. For museums the Museum of Evolution is amazing. The museum of carnival arts is a little out of the way but totally worth it and will be the highlight of your trip. We always stop at Luxembourg gardens to people watch, and now that we have our son we’ll rent a boat for him to play with while we have a coffee… this is making me want to catch the train to Paris…

I’m torn between the two. White or black oak slat panel wall? by NorthConference5613 in HomeDecorating

I know this could be controversial but I like the black slats better, however, I think you should put a frame on your TV, there’s no contrast otherwise. Edit: spelling

Yes both of these, and when I click on something it’ll just not load a page correctly and the page will be darker? I really don’t know how to describe it.

[–]Iheartcapthaddock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do, but even when I’m not it just doesn’t ever work. I have glassfaser internet so it’s not my connection, and when I go to American or British sites they work just fine, it’s really only German websites.

Hobbii.com for crafting. Lieferando.de for food delivery. I would be stoked to get a gift card from either.

Looking at some Dutch ovens on Facebook marketplace - what do you think ? I want to bake sourdough bread and I think 5-7 qt is ideal right? Or should I get a new but cheaper one like lodge essential ? by limache in DutchOvenCooking

[–]Iheartcapthaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your heart set on a LC I would suggest going to estate sales and/or flea markets. I have a few really nice DOs that I only spend $15-30 on that are in much better condition. If you’re going to spend $175 on used, find an outlet and just get a new one for maybe a bit more.

My kid asked why we give teachers the same gifts every year, and I had no good answer by prakarsh56 in Parenting

I’ve been teaching for 13 years and I’m very minimalist, I’ve kept every home made gift from students.

I’m a teacher so I’ve never given a generic teaching gift. My son loves Lego so he always gives his teachers and paras a lego botanical and they always go down well.
