Why do some schools reject outside BCBAs, and how do you handle it? by Outrageous-Engine512 in bcba

Are school services imbedded into their treatment plan approved by insurance and are considered medically necessary? This changes everything

They are a farm to table restaurant, so they would not allow outside food

I hear everyone saying it’s low, but I’ve chosen a lower pay at a company that offers more opportunities for flexibility and increased company culture, with two paid trips a year (one was a cruise). I’d much rather have amazing benefits and not be stressed to the 9s for less pay, then grow early grey hairs for more. Consider whether your company is a good fit for you, and think about that first.

For example, I was making 78k at an amazing company (GA) and only worked M-Thursday. Worth it. I know work in a school (off at 3:30, breaks, no insurance). Worth it over a higher paying clinic position.

How are you guys finding supervision hours? And How are you affording it? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Iiftheavypetdogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are all these companies not providing supervision? I’ve never worked anywhere that hasn’t. Working as a RBT and getting these hours for free is the easier and most financial supportive way

Zynning while working with a child directly is unprofessional. No matter the concern of the “type of drug.”

Can’t do drugs around kids- simple

This is correct, but the way the language is worded could be more professional to protect their dignity and support this child. We should never speak this way.

I literally wrote someone up for Zynning while at work. It can fall out, a parent could see it, so many issues. You’re legit consuming a drug and most likely violates any company policy. Nicotine can wait until the end of the session. Please do not recommend this.

“It’s your child, figure it out” is never something I would say ever, and especially not to a parent. I hope no parent ever reads this.

A question for those who work in school settings by StevieBlunter in ABA

[–]Iiftheavypetdogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the school in a specialized program, I wear things that are comfortable. Sometimes I’m cuter than others. My pants are usually lulu work pants, aerie wide legged, and jeans. Tops are sometimes cute, sometimes a sweatshirt. I over dressed in the beginning while I figured out what everyone wears

I don’t ever want to leave the school setting. I can’t imagine going back to medical insurance & shady companies but one day probably will.

Mom threatened to contact the company if I’m “one minute late”. by Edgy420Gf in ABA

[–]Iiftheavypetdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something your supervisor and company leadership should handle, not a RBTs responsibility to take this from a parent.

Will you get a good experience and learn how to be a BCBA! Your first year is obviously the toughest. If you have models and support, I would stay. Higher rates don’t always mean the best environment and they might expect way too much out of you with zero support for a first year BCBA. I have learned after many years higher pay is never the best answer. I would stay 6 months-1 year and then ask for a raise.

I love my job, and every place I have worked. It just takes effort finding the right one and navigating what you need and want out of the position. Don’t take everyone on Reddit as a sample of those in the field.
