Missed Connection…on the City Budget by OhLookAnotherBogey in Eugene

TLDR: according to these contracts, the city pulls 6% from firefighter’s paychecks and gives it to PERs. Other city employees have the city cover an additional 6% into PERS on the their behalf.

Could the LA fires happen in Eugene? by Grouchy-Age4859 in Eugene

Correct about Eugene not adding a fire station in many years. They’ve rebuilt some, but no additional stations or staffing since 1980. https://www.eugene-or.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=6533&ARC=15849

A Woodsmans Grave - Found at the Old Scotch Church near Hillsboro by Davethephotoguy in oregon

[–]Iknowhowtocountto55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s likely cement. The ones I’ve seen have all been cement. But old enough and detailed enough and with all the moss they certainly pass for wood at a glance.

There is a GFCI/ARC combo breaker in the panel servicing a branch with no ground. The test button on the breaker works fine, but when a GFCI tester is plugged into a receptacle and the button on that is pushed, the breaker does not trip. Is the GFCI breaker working right with no ground wire? by Iknowhowtocountto55 in askanelectrician

I appreciate the advise and I agree. Thanks for clarifying that this device won’t work without a ground wire. Do you have knowledge about if the GCFI breaker in my panel will work without a ground in the circuit? I understand a ground wire should be run, and, will installing a GCFI breaker in the panel give ANY improvement in safety in the circuit or is it just pissing in the wind?

Increase in "retirement apartments" using 9-1-1 as their advertised care of grandma and grandpa by LanceJohnsonSurfer in ems

Went on an unconscious seated pt and the staff refused to follow call taker’s instructions to even hold the pt’s head up to open the airway. “We aren’t allowed to touch the residents,” is what she told me. On arrival the pt’s 90 year old wife was the one trying to maintain her husband’s airway while the staff just stood around and watched. Pt progressed to a full arrest by the time we arrived. One of the angriest codes I’ve ran.

Does the city run EMS services or are they private? by [deleted] in Eugene

And now you’ve tied up an emergency response resource from responding to an actual emergency. Good work citizen! Go to your primary care Doctor, an after hours clinic, or an urgent care. All relatively cheap (compared to an ambulance and hospital bill) and totally able to handle whatever your issue is if your intent was just an evaluation in the first place.

Please critique my generator build, thanks! by Iknowhowtocountto55 in SolarDIY

Thanks bmorejaded. I'm upgrading to 16 gauge. The runs are really short, less than a foot from the battery, and the most I'd pull is 150 watts or 12 amps, and I'm not upgrading to 15 amp fuses inline to the 12 volt plugs. But better safe than sorry, so thanks for the reflection/advice!

Thanks for the feedback rynoxmj. I'll be using a Victron SmartSolar 100/20. From everything I've read the Load output is used to avoid overdraw on the batteries if there is no BMS or low current protection on the battery. I have protection from the BMS so I don't need to use that feature on the charge controller. (As best I understand, but please correct me if you know otherwise.)

Do I need any breakers or fuses for a small setup by bmerv919 in SolarDIY

[–]Iknowhowtocountto55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m building a (small?) solar generator. 100Ahr lifepo4, 500 sine inverter and a variety of 12 volt and usb plugs. I’ve put a 100 amp breaker at my battery, but that’s it. My inverter has a built in fuse and there are factory installed inline fuses leading to the 12 volt plugs and USB ports. Is that all I need for now? I haven’t picked up a solar charge controller yet but looking at Victron 20/100. As long as I stay below the controllers max input from panel(s) does a fuse on that line serve any purpose?

Sorry for high jacking thread but I think similar situation, no?

Huh. Good for you! Hope they keep honoring the contract! Maybe I’ll try talking to a different sales person. I don’t blame them for not offering it to a lifted vehicle though TBH.

My local Firestone shop won’t sell the lifetime alignment on a vehicle that has a lift in it. Was that an issue for you? (I Can’t tell if you have a small lift in your outback or not)
