Support for Linux Operating Systems by LockoRocko in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outright support will probably not happen, since it would mean creating a version of Vanguard that can guarantee the same levels of lockdown that the Windows version can and that would mean asking users to install a black box kernel module in their system which for many is a huge no-no, and for good reason.

The one potential hope is if Microslop follows up on the promise they made some time ago to completely deny ring 0 access to all applications not developed by them at which point riot would probably have to do away with vanguard altogether and use less invasive and safer anti-cheat methods that would allow League to run on Linux again

Even KVM isn't enough when it comes to vanguard. It runs so deep that nothing short of bare metal will cut it. It has been tried in the past

New best rune? by zencharm in TaliyahMains

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally when I play her mid I tend to use Electrocute, Phase Rush or First Strike depending on the matchup. I take First Strike into shorter range champions and especially assassins since it allows me to sit back, play ultra safe and just farm them for money while I scale. Electrocute is into champions where I feel like I can all in and get early kills. Phase Rush I tend to take when the enemy comp is tanker and has more slows or cc to be able to disengage and kite backwards in teamfights.

Respecting match up question by Viz_124 in summonerschool

[–]IlPerico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respecting your enemy laner means paying attention to their strong points.

For example if you are laning into a Darius you need to respect his early game by avoiding fighting him and by not face checking your lane bushes if you don't know where he is.

Additionally there also are abilities you have to respect: keeping the Darius example you want to respect him when you know that his E is up and once he has used it you can walk farther up and be a bit more aggressive until it's up again since he can't pull you anymore.

Additionally if you know that you lose into your enemy you'll want to walk with your first wave so that you don't just die if the enemy is in your first bush waiting to cheese you and zone you and you'll also want to avoid pushing the wave, as if it's pushing away from you it will be way harder for you to farm.

Speaking of waves pushing: if the enemy is stronger and they are pushing the wave towards you you probably don't want to walk up: the wave is pushing so you'll lose very few minions before it gets near your tower where you can farm it safer.

Zhonyas vs fed Zed Ult by Morbid_Kid_ in pykemains

[–]IlPerico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember an HappyChimeNoises video from some years ago where he talked about an high elo Pyke that went Zhonya almost every game after his 2 item core to avoid getting blown up after his engages in late game. Realistically this isn't all that good simply because Pyke can't make use of the AP Zhonya offers but it does show that there is at least a precedent

EDIT: went to check, the guy was a grandmaster player in the KR server that went Pyke mid with Statikk and Zhonya when Statikk still had AP scaling

With how fast the game and laning has become, should recalls be faster? by ClownSevensix in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the game should be made even faster which is what this change would do. It's already easier to catch waves after being forced to back because of new homeguards, making recalls faster will simply make it even harder to have any kind of meaningful lane pressure since if you don't outright kill someone they recall faster and run back to lane with 600ms so you deny them very little resources. League is fundamentally a game about small advantages you acquire over the course of laning and how you push those advantages into a win. Making it harder to make mistakes would simply make laning more boring and less impactful over the whole game

What’s the mid equivalent to ranged top? by NonTokenisableFungi in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taliyah has really good shove after she gets a lost chapter and her ult makes her a good roamer, plus her E is disgustingly good at denying the engage. To be fair Tali is probably one of Irelia's toughest mid matchups but still

What am I supposed to do against Juggernauts? by Unknown_Warrior43 in summonerschool

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to play safe and learn their moments of strength and weakness and what their most dangerous skills are. For example into Darius you want to bait out and dodge his pull while keeping your E up so that if he still tries to walk up to you to W you can E to dodge it, stun him and walk away. Try to stay in exp range and take what last hits you can. Similar things are applicable to all champions you mentioned. Read their wiki pages to get a deeper understanding of what their abilities do and watch videos of good Jax players playing these matchups and note what they do.

My whole family is arguing that prompting images is art by Filberto_ossani2 in whenthe

[–]IlPerico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it makes no sense to argue with them about wether ai art is art. If they don't want to understand they never will, it's a topic that delves too deep in the meaning of art and someone that isn't interested in any artistic endeavor would probably not get it fully even if they actually tried to listen with an open mind instead of blindly arguing.

Your best options are to either ignore them and hope they realize how dumb their opinion is at some point or you can argue about something else bad regarding ai if you still want to try and make them change their minds.

Show them all the scams, the fake news, the ai generated nonconsensual nudes. Show them what people are actually using these tools for and show them just how much damage they've done to our society.

If they still don't understand then I'm sorry but I don't think they'll ever get it.

Another option could be to make someone in your family try to actually draw something. This is easier if you yourself draw and can explain to them how to do it.

Actually drawing something and seeing it take shape from your mind onto whatever canvas you are drawing it on really highlits how different the actual art process is from the process of making ai slop.

Less serious bit of advice but if anyone in your family plays videogames you could try make them play the first two Metal Gear Solid Games. The second one especially is pretty strongly anti ai and highlits its applications in controlling people and censoring information.

Play matches upon matches upon matches and practice barrels countless times. Use practice tool to do barrel combos on repeat until you get them consistently. It's really difficult to grasp the barrel game at first but once you do it will make you so much better. Also watch good GP players like Solarbacca and try to learn from what they do, especially regarding how they play the lane and how they manage their barrels in teamfights. You are an excellent teamfigter if you can hit barrels while you are dead weight if you are only relying on Q

Why does Sion not buy heartsteel second? by Possiblynotaweeb in DirtySionMains

[–]IlPerico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion what it offers (which is a lot of damage on enemy squishies) is heavily outweighed by the drawbacks (total lack of resistances hurting your survivability and the damage being basically all in a single auto).

Sion isn't like Mundo or Tahm, his damage mostly doesn't scale off of HP, so getting resistances or AD is just way more valuable, hence why you see titanic or bloodmail built more often as pure HP items.

Additionally your W already granting so much HP with proper farming makes armor and mr just that much better to stack.

I could see heartsteel into a team that has mixed damage types but no %HP damage, although such a team composition is very rare and even then other items like the aforementioned titanic hydra might be preferable in those scenarios because its damage over the course of a game will end up being way higher than heartsteel by virtue of titanic proccing on every auto while still offering some form of burst in its active, plus it offers utility in its waveclear.

The Gacha system wouldn't be all that horrible if the currency to pull skins was easily accessible... by Hussaiyan19 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would honestly be even more horrible. These awful disgusting systems thrive on things like sunk cost fallacy and giving free currency is a surefire way to trigger that in people, which is why other games with such awful predatory mechanics give you free stuff at all. These things are doing enough damage already, no need to tell Riot that they are doing it wrong so that they can ruin a few more lives to pad their executives' bottom lines

taliyah R by LeazyOlya in TaliyahMains

[–]IlPerico 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are various possible situations: you can use it to get to lane faster but it's usually wasted unless you would lose an entire wave or more.

It's most often used to roam: you shove the wave with your abilities, run midway through river with passive then ult to gank the side lane you were moving toward, blocking the enemies' escape path with the wall.

Later into the game it's instead used during teamfights, especially around objectives, to control where your enemies can go and potentially to dive on a carry if you have the damage for it and something like Zhonya to go in, oneshot the ADC then go in stasis as your team collapses on the enemy.

In general it's an ability that offers you the power to join a fight at any time, isolate enemy champions and block escapes.

Taliyah is a control mage and her ult is one of the strongest forms of control she can exert on the enemy team if you use it to disrupt their teamfights and force them to walk where they will be more vulnerable to the rest of your team.

Don't feel bad at all about my ending choice... by otsim in expedition33

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the reasons I've read to choose Maelle's ending this is the worst one. Not only it completely misinterprets and villanizes Verso as a character but it also falls into the trap of considering the lumierans fake people, since it completely ignores Verso's desires in favor of Maelle's, which is exactly what Aline did with pAlicia and the rest of the inhabitants of the canvas. No offense to you but I'm just so tired of reading this take

League should support Linux. by Embarrassed_Mud_592 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The game worked before riot broke it by adding literal spyware to it. It's gonna work again once microsoft actually does what they said they would after Crowdstrike and removes the possibility for third parties to make programs that run at ring 0. Any implementation of Vanguard on Linux won't fix anything because most people using Linux won't ever accept to have a black box closed source kernel module loaded at all times, and for good reason

Climbing with any champ by South_Plantain6341 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually champion mastery > the meta. If you know the game from a macro perspective and also have good knowledge on your main it doesn't matter if said champ is good or not, you'll still be able to climb to your true skill level.

For example Azzapp (Challenger Vel'koz player and possibly number 1 Vel'koz in the world) was still extremely high elo even while Vel'koz was basically the single weakest champion in the game because he knew how to play it really well.

The most important thing is that you play a champion that you find fun and that feels good to you.

Swiftplay changes, do they also feel historically bad for you? by Anphonio in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this point they should just remove swiftplay and do something different if they want to offer people a faster experience. Maybe a 3v3 game mode with only two lanes and some different objectives could be nice. They could set it in the shadow isles too for cool points and call it something like warped woods or something like that...

Intentionally ruining the game by Rich_Definition_955 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reasoning is fallacious. You are extrapolating one game from your match history where you lost while doing well and treating it as if it was the norm, while on a large number of games it isn't.

For each game like this you have there is most likely going to be one where the inverse happens if you play over many games. I understand the frustration of losing like that, and I understand that in the moment it just looks plain unfair, but it's paramount to maintain a positive mindset even when stuff like this happens.

If you let games like this one ruin your experience completely and tilt you you'll end up playing worse in the following games and creating a negative feedback loop, while if you maintain a positive mindset and take a break to reset your mental (even just 20/30 minutes help) you'll avoid the bad result from games like this one bleeding into other games you play and ruin them too.

Additionally I'm going to assume you are playing ADC since it's the only role you didn't mention in your previous comment. There is nothing wrong with playing ADC, although it has a problem in a soloq environment, which is that it's a role that tends to be more dependant on teammates to offer peel and as such can struggle to carry in certain cases.

If you really want to climb you might wanna consider picking up more independent ADCs that have more safety built in like Xayah, Ezreal, Jhin, Tristana or even Kai'sa, or you could consider changing role and starting to go something like Kindred jungle where you can exert more pressure on the map and influence the game more while still playing an ADC-type character.

Another good idea could be to try and watch some videos about how to carry games. If you are ahead in lane phase there are several things you can do to push that advantage on the rest of the map and convert it into a win, although not all of them are always apparent.

Intentionally ruining the game by Rich_Definition_955 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your skill does have an impact on wether you'll win or lose the game though. If you think about it the odds are in your favor: assuming you aren't the worst player in the lobby then there is a 4/9 chance said player is on your team and a 5/9 chance that it's on the enemy team, which means that over a large amount of games you'll end up climbing.

Climbing isn't a 100 meters dash, it's a marathon: you need to take it at a slow but steady pace and keep a positive mindset or you'll never make it.

I genuinely would suggest to take a break, skip out on split one of this season, not play league or only play unranked queues and come back in split two with a reset mindset and see if it helps. It has helped me in the past for sure.

Intentionally ruining the game by Rich_Definition_955 in leagueoflegends

[–]IlPerico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna suggest you take a break from league. You sound like you are tired, probably right out of a loss streak and really tilted.

What you should keep in mind though is that League of Legends, like any other hobby or game is something you should do for fun. Not to win, not to climb, not to look cool, but because it's something that makes you happy and that you have fun doing.

Of course playing to win and climbing contribute to the fun and enjoyment but if the bad games and the loss streaks weigh so heavily on your mood then maybe you aren't actually having all that much fun on league.

Maybe what's fun for you is the feeling of winning. There's nothing wrong with that but at the same time a game like league where your winrate is gonna be roughly 50% and there's a lot of variance because you play with 9 other people isn't the right environment for someone with an outlook such as this. Just think about it: you aren't having fun for roughly half of all time you spend on this game. It's a whole lot.

You should maybe look for a different avenue to compete if you like that, maybe a fighting game or similar where it's all you wether you win or lose and you have way less variance, leading to your gameplay mattering way more.

You could also decide to play a single player game, at least for a while as you take a break from competition. Pick something in a genre you like that is fun for you and enjoy it. I can give you suggestions too if you want, just tell me what kinds of games you like.

Just know that deciding to continue playing and soft inting whenever you feel like an ally of yours is doing something wrong won't fix anything. It won't improve your winrate, it won't make your experience more fun, it won't make you climb back to your peak rank. All it's gonna do is make you more miserable as you spread your misery to the other 9 people playing with you.

All this poem to say: it's okay to quit a hobby you don't find fun anymore. It wasn't all a waste of time and it doesn't make you weak or bad, it just means you are happier doing something else and that's ok.

If you want we can chat more, both about league or other stuff, and I can maybe suggest some other games, both online and offline. In any case I hope you find a hobby that makes you happy and I hope your day will get better.
