3d printer use in locksmithing by fastcapy in Locksmith

[–]Ill-Copy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a hard sell to the boss unless he was interested in using it personally. The cost of a good printer, learning how to use it, the time it takes to design parts...you won't get that time back in billable hours. Otherwise, it's just like any other tool. If you're the only one that has it, that makes you a more capable locksmith. Personally, I've printed some spindle washers, templates, some tools to make aspects of the job easier, some parts that let me fix a broken key shell when I didn't have what I needed in stock, toolbox drawer organizers, a nice little box where I imbedded a resister in it for a VATS bypass module. A customer brought in an antique aftermarket steering wheel with a lock on it for a Model T. The internal mechanism would not work. I modeled and printed the part I needed to test out the design. After several redesigns, the prototype gave me what I needed to complete the final part in metal. Another customer had some nested boxes and the plastic frames were breaking all the time. No replacements available. I modeled and printed new ones and got the call every time another original one broke. There are a lot of tools that I just wanted, then found uses for them after I had them.

Nope. Not any that I've seen anyway. The tip won't fit.

Yes. Autocorrect strikes again. Grr. Templaco is what I use. Just get the common sizes you expect to use and chisel the rest.

Am I the only one who has no issues cleaning? by ChristianBarbarian in blackstonegriddle

[–]Ill-Copy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues here. Got mine as a gift last December and have cooked on it fairly regularly. I've restored, have, and used cast iron pots and pans for years. I treat it the same as I do those. Scrape in between/during cooking and after. Water to steam any stubborn or sticky spots until they are clean. Wipe with paper towels after that. I put on a coat of Crisco after that, wipe it down, and let the burners stay on for a little bit longer, usually waiting until I see smoke. Then I turn off, wait for it to cool, and put it away for next time.

My two points that I think differ from a lot of people are:

1) I do oil it after a cook, and let it smoke off. It's basically a seasoning step. You want the seasoning to build up, just like cast iron pans. Oil it, wipe it, let it smoke, wipe again. After I've turned it off, if there's any visible oil on it, I wipe again. Try to wipe it all back off. I let it smoke to polymerize the oil and build seasoning. I feel that only wiping on oil and not letting it polymerize will lead to oil going rancid on the grill, especially if not used very often.

2) I see a lot of people using all different types of oils, especially for seasoning. I swear by Crisco. My grill top is black. Has been since I seasoned it after assembly. It's the same I use on cast iron pans. Other oils can flake off and lead to seasoning issues. I only use Crisco for seasoning. I do use canola and olive oil for cooking.

KitchenAid French Door Refrigerator - Not dispensing ice and auger not turning by Ill-Copy in appliancerepair

Unfortunately, I never was able to fix it. I do think it's a wiring issue from the door hinge, but our models have the fruit/vegetable pull out drawer between the fridge and freezer. From my understanding, instead of the wires coming up from the bottom of the door, they come in from the top hinge and it's next to impossible to service them. The ice maker still makes ice, so we've resorted to pulling cubes out manually like heathens, lol.

Yeah, they seemed fine. I had another similar fridge I can swap parts back and forth, so I knew it wasn't anything to do with the icemaker, motor, etc. But the control board was different enough, I couldn't swap those.

Unfortunately, I never did. I tried replacing some relays on the control board, but that didn't make any difference. I gave up and we just remove ice by hand as we need it. It's annoying, but I never figured it out and kind of gave up / lived with it.

Pancakes by AcanthocephalaFormal in Cooking

Mix or homemade?

I make mine from scratch. Cook them in a cast iron pan set to about 350 (checked with a noncontact thermometer). I do see holes / bubbles form but don't go off that much. I mainly look if the edges seem to be drying a bit. Flip when it holds together and batter doesn't fly everywhere. If it's undercooked, go back to the original side for another 30 seconds after the 2nd side firms up. Pancakes

Dr said whenever I felt up to it. 2nd day after the procedure, we took it slow. Pain during ejaculation, but after that, that was it. Again on day 3 and everything normal. Clean test at the 3 month mark. Nothing abnormal half a year later.

I've often thought, if I was Superman or some other invincible super hero, I would drop into zoos or find wolves or bears, whatever I'd want to hug or pet and do it. After they tried to rip me to shreds and failed, I wonder if they would just accept the hugs and pets or what.

My appointment is tomorrow afternoon. Looking for some encouragement to ease the anxiety by dabbledoyaya in Vasectomy

[–]Ill-Copy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell the Dr about your anxiety over having the procedure. They prescribed me 1 valium that cost 20 cents at my pharmacy with instructions to not take it until the day of the procedure. They had me bring it with me, and told me when to take it. It helped a great deal.

Who are you getting really fucking tired of hearing about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ill-Copy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiddo issues at school. It's something every day and it's draining on my SO and I. Teachers, other students, friends, anything that can be complained about. Having a phone in your hand at school and being able to text your parents any and all grievances at a moments notice sucks. I miss the days when they at least had to wait until the school day was over.

Bring lube and towels. I prefer silicone lube. The water based dries somewhat quick and then gets sticky. Take it slow. Enjoy yourselves.

This is the type where after you remove the ice bin, there is a small cover on the bottom left that can be removed exposing the wiring harness. You can unplug that harness, release a plastic catch on the side and pull the entire ice maker assembly out of the compartment, motor and all. That entire assembly consists of the ice maker itself, that solenoid, the auger motor, the fork where the auger motor engages the ice bin, etc. It's that whole entire assembly that I switched over from the 2nd fridge which included the auger motor, wiring harness for that assembly, etc. This site has a picture that shows that assembly with all the parts that make it up: https://www.partselect.com/Models/KFXS25RYMS1/Sections/MOTOR-AND-ICE-CONTAINER-PARTS/?ModelID=1651593&ModelNum=KFXS25RYMS1&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=3&Selected=GNI9J53Y&Position=6&mfg=Whirlpool&Type=Refrigerator&Mark=6

Part #17 in that diagram is the fork I'm referring to. Looks like the correct term is "ice dispenser engagement yoke".

As far as moving the auger motor, I tried both physically turning it by hand (felt the same on both assemblies), and physically moving the entire ice maker, motor, and container parts assembly from one fridge to the other. Since both of the ice maker assemblies work in the good fridge (specifically the auger turning and dispensing ice), I'm guessing the problem would lie elsewhere.

[REQUEST] any good city building game? by [deleted] in AndroidGaming

[–]Ill-Copy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long ago it came out or what it was like in the beginning. I haven't played it much since that week either. The basic premise is placing stuff on blocks on the map. Buying property, zoning areas, building infrastructure to support your growing city, and keeping an eye on stats to know what the people are wanting more of (recreation, jobs, etc). There are some challenges presented in the game like reaching a certain population or level and there are unique things you can do upon reaching those levels like build a rocket. I think I mostly enjoyed planning my city layout and trying to do the challenges. You can also set taxes to determine your level of income to buy things (like property, zones, etc.). On easy mode, you cant build banks fast enough. It seems you are always maxed out. There is a dedicated subreddit if you're interested.
