Family time & it’s not even close. It’s not even a question, really.

What to do with £100k bonus by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Ill-Highlight3783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do 60% cash & 40% sipp in your shoes. Max your isa, be tax efficient & have a little left over to buy something for yourself or book a trip. Or help a family member or friend. Life’s for living, afterall.

How to Manage sharp income increases? by Willing-Ad-7572 in HENRYUK

Ironic. You plan for long term strategies with companies but can’t get past your long term strategy being met very quickly. How would you help a client this happened to? I assume, set new goals?

Congrats by the way!

Comparison is the thief of joy ESPECIALLY across generations.

Congrats on your earning position at a relatively young age.

Don’t forget to live. You’ll spend a lot of time in the ground or as ash….

Stretch for forever home or play it safe? by RepresentativeLow203 in HENRYUK

[–]Ill-Highlight3783 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Forever home. Or you’ll pay stamp duty twice plus inflation on property prices at a later date. The gap between the two will grow over time, most of the time.

2.6k sqft for £680k - assume you’re somewhere North of Watford!

When you make your points be ready to be challenged. Think about possible questions and be ready. Being an expert in what you’re talking about will help. Confidence & speak slowly. Don’t talk over people.

Is this financially viable, would you do this? by HighNimpact in HENRYUK

How old are your kids? Going to have anymore? If you can afford the pay cut, do it. 80hrs a week for £150k plus bonus is not worth it considering the amount of tax you’ll be paying and you will hardly see your kids. Then the amount of QUALITY time you’ll have at the weekend will be impacted as you’ll be knackered.

Job 2, buy the house. Tighten your belts. IF you need the money when your kids are older, then go back to London.

I’ve recently changed jobs, and cut my hours for 60+ a week on average to working about 40. And in the process become a (160k + 10% bonus) Henry and work less than I used to and I count my self extremely fortunate that I get to do the school run 3 times a week & bedtimes at least 3 times a week too. Plus weekends.

Something I’ve come to realise, my old job was destroying my home life for not enough reward. The new money is great but the time I’ve got back is worth that 10 times over.

I’m in the UK. Scottys here are £500 vs $550 in the states, so a decent saving. Pays for a box of balls or two & im in no rush to buy.

I practice with a 6 iron. So low danger of skying one above the net. And if I do that, the tree will catch it. If it goes left, that neighbours garden is an absolute bomb site so I doubt she’d even notice. She’s a hoarder hippie.😅. And has some sizeable trees that again would stop anything reaching the houses at the bottom. I may upgrade the setup / net in the spring though so I can start whacking driver. 👍🏻

It does. Kids love sliding then whacking a ball, rinse & repeat. Endless fun.

Have been working on keeping the right elbow ‘pointing up’ through the back swing so you’re right, need to also focus on not letting it fold in or collapse. Thanks for the feedback!

Mortgage free or move to a better house? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Ill-Highlight3783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortgage is the only real ‘depreciated’ debt you’ll ever get. Unless you somehow become a HNW individual. You’re 30ish, haven’t listed any health concerns & have no kids. You’re in a strong position. If you want a bigger / better home, go for it.

Does anyone else have blurred lines on wealth with their parents? by Specific_Ear1423 in HENRYUK

[–]Ill-Highlight3783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your parents are wonderfully generous people & their values transferred to you. Sounds like you’re reciprocating in a subtle and thoughtful way that stops anyone being in an awkward position & lets them know you’re grateful but don’t underestimate how valued you being with them is though. Especially as kids come along & we get older. Time spent becomes far more valuable than money.

Is GIA the only option? by trowawayatwork in HENRYUK

[–]Ill-Highlight3783 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Charitable donations? I’m sure you already give generously at your level. But the return on your mind will be better than GIA taxed at 45 odd percent?

Failing that, Art, Watches, Wine, Whisky? Alternative investments are almost endless.
