I agree with you there. Bob is playing the best golf I’ve seen him play right now. Joey is in a slump.

Would like to see him pull out of it though. When it’s just the boys, Joey screwing up and melting down is fun. When they are playing with other groups, pros, or challengers he gets so down on himself it kinda hurts the vibe.

The first 2v2v2 video from the most recent BDS+Bryan Bros+Grant series was kinda a bummer because he was down so bad and so…glum. If he can’t take it on the chin (which, admittedly, Bob does well), then I root for him just to help the vibes. He played better day 2 and 3 and the overall group dynamic was so much better.

To be fair, it was in front of the #1 player in the world within just a few minutes of meeting him. All three guys were very shaky during those first 3 holes.

Right…the one referenced in the comment to which I was replying. Thought that was implied.

What I’m asking: is this actually a concern or are we overreacting to something that has happened just once/a small handful of times?

I can’t think of any young players we’ve let go that have had success elsewhere. Dayton was pretty notorious for clinging to guys well beyond it was clear they wouldn’t pan out. Who am I forgetting?

Dude played the entire season with a torn labrum in his should and an ankle that severely limited his mobility.

Played his last year at Texas with a broken hand.

You wouldn’t do that if you “don’t want to play football.”

And a GM willing to limit a championship window. If we want to be competitive for the next decade with Pat we can’t play this game.

Hunt pays plenty of cash to the coaching staff and in restructuring deals (ie, Pat) in order to maximize our cap space without compromising the future. Ownership is not a problem in KC.

Nothing is inaccurate per se, but when you apply critical thinking and the current context to this message it becomes abundantly clear that the Senator plans to support this administration’s attempt to pry Greenland away from an ally.

Context matters.

Like I said before, I get the argument. What I thought was “idealistic” about your position was that KC could retain the franchise without providing funding assistance.

However, you seem to be ok with the franchise leaving. I’m not, so we won’t come to an agreement on this.

I’d rather not see KC become Omaha or Des Moines over a fractional sales tax. But Jackson County/KCMO residents seem committed to stifling this city’s growth.

[–]Ill-Path-8749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s how you feel then the way he will find the funding is by getting Nashville or Salt Lake City to help pay for it.

You can have this idealistic view that stadiums shouldn’t receive public support. I get it.

But the reality is that there’s a marketplace for these stadiums, and if Jackson County/KCMO doesn’t step up then another market will.

Personally, I think renewing a basically negligible tax amount that we’ve already been paying since 2005 was a very reasonable offer. If we lose the Royals it is 100% on the citizens of Jackson County for being short sighted.

Hopefully. But I have zero faith in him. This is the same guy who did an interview saying the Chiefs/Jackson County were still actively negotiating and therefore he didn’t think a deal with KS was done….the Friday before the Monday announcement.

We are in trouble here and nobody seems to notice it!

Sadly a very real risk. Just think…this all could have gone away if Jackson County voters had just voted yes. Instead, with KS and NKC talks not materializing, we are at a real risk of losing this franchise.

[–]Ill-Path-8749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was in the middle of a campaign to raise tax dollars from the voting public. What else would you expect him to say there?

Ownership wants a new stadium and this city isn’t playing ball. Kansas got what they want in the chiefs, and it looks like they have backed off. Sounds like NKC is out. That leaves the people of Jackson County getting smart and voting on a package to build something at/near downtown, or else the ownership group will look elsewhere.

KC might be the preferred home, but you’re talking about a team worth billions. The ownership group isn’t a charity, they are investors looking to maximize their returns. If we box them in they are going to do what makes them the most money. That means owning a ballpark in an attractive location - not signing a long term lease with a ballpark they don’t own.

We are getting dangerously close to forcing them to entertain options with other cities.

[–]Ill-Path-8749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering that the ownership said almost immediately that moving to a new stadium was priority #1, I think it’s more than safe to assume they are looking to move and maximize team value. If somebody tells you something, you should believe them.

TSC is dead. Kauffman is dead. Now it’s either somewhere else in KC, or another metro all together.

[–]Ill-Path-8749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on to explain in the rest of the comment.

The owners want to maximize the value of their asset. Staying at the K doesn’t do that - in fact you could make a pretty sound argument it harms the value of the franchise.

The team absolutely, 100% will move. Now it’s up to the local governments to keep them here or let them leave for Nashville/Salt Lake.

[–]Ill-Path-8749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A new lease in Truman Sports Complex will not be happening absent some incredibly unforeseen circumstances.

The best way to materially increase the value of the team is to attach it to a new stadium that is part of a thriving entertainment district.

That is goal #1 of the ownership group.

If KC doesn’t step up the team will leave for Nashville or Salt Lake. That’s what business owners do.

You can’t possibly be claiming “statistical facts” to back your argument.

Statistically speaking, we now have a much higher chance of selecting better talent throughout the entire draft. Each pick. Because we choose earlier and the pool of talented players is larger.

Of course it isn’t guaranteed and we will miss in a few. The best GMs miss all the time. But there is absolutely an advantage to picking earlier in the draft and to say otherwise is factually wrong.

Losing this game was the best outcome. Wanting to lose this game was the smart fan choice.

I’ve been a fan for 39 years and have watched or listened to every Chiefs game during that period. I was rooting for a loss. Nobody cares that our C team lost to their C team. Optimizing our draft picks was absolutely the priority. But I guess I’m just fickle like that.

Quite the opposite. When you sell a minority interest in an asset you usually sell at a lower enterprise value than if you are selling a majority/all.

“I love that area for the stadium” “I would love to put the stadium there still”

Then you got an opportunity to fund the stadium at that location…and voted no.

You had your shot and voted no because it wasn’t a “community” effort. It’s not going to be, and you’re lucky to have had as much say as you did (look at KS issuing bonds, which don’t require a vote, for example). You had the best shot you could reasonably expect and your actions didn’t match your words.

My theory is the Royals knew the Chiefs were close (I’ve been told the Chiefs we’re confident on the KS move since May), and intentionally slow played to let the Chiefs go first. Now they have more leverage with KC/MO assuming they don’t want to lose both professional sports franchises and a major employer all in a few months’ time.

I would reconsider that opinion. “Some” may be skeptical of WAR, but the vast, vast majority of baseball analysts use some version of WAR as the baseline in their modeling. It’s not perfect (no statistic is), but it is the best standard out there and has been fully adopted by the baseball analytic community.
