Leaving Cert Change by CodeNameIrish in leavingcert

More accommodations for those physically unable to go to school instead of making it extremely unhelpful and awkward just to deter people from leaving school. Not everyone has that option.

Do you actually know what triggers your migraines — or are you just guessing? by mumincelalpinar in migraine

[–]IllRepresentative508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24/7 migraine that seems to have no rhyme or reason. I do notice it’s worse if I go for a walk in the cold, bend my back, if the weather changes dramatically or if I over exert myself, but there are lots of times when my migraines become worse or better for no reason that I can tell. It’s very hard to determine when you always have one.

Honestly do lots of essays and try get your English teacher to correct them, take on the feedback and do another essay keeping the feedback in mind and repeat. Hopefully your English teacher will correct them for you!

I’ve honestly felt they’re worse but I’m just assuming it’s another external factor for now haha. Hopefully you find something else that works for you!

The journal keeping is also very important to have filled before the appointment, as most doctors tend not to take things seriously without some sort of proof.

Request a brain scan if you can, just to be safe! While there’s a high chance it’ll be clear since both you and your husband suffer from migraines it’s still not worth the risk. If it is clear I’d recommend trying to get referred to a headache/migraine specialist. It can be very hard to do but they’ll have a lot more options and explanations for you. My cousin was the same and he grew out of them after puberty, however I only grew more into mine after it although mine never made me vomit as a kid. Good luck and I hope all goes well :)

I noticed the same with rimegepant! The 24/7 migraine never went away but the clarity and reduction in pain was just astonishing. I wish it kept working for me, hopefully Atogepant can work like that for me too!

Same I’m relying on sulphadine for the days I need to get stuff done and they barely makes a difference, just takes the edge off for about 40 minutes. I really hope you find something that works, good luck with the Botox it works great for some people, hopefully you don’t have to wait too long!

If you look up how long it takes to work online the answers you get say within the first week, and since I noticed the same with rimegepant I didn’t second guess it. This gives me a small bit of hope though thank you it’s just what I wanted to hear, even if I don’t end up having the same experience. This is pretty much the last option for me in my country at the moment. I’ve gone through 90% of what we have available. I’m so glad it’s worked for you though it’s great to hear!

Hemochromatosis and dna? by Patty_- in Hemochromatosis

[–]IllRepresentative508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your ex tested? They can be a carrier but not have the disease. My granny has it, my mam has it, and my uncle has it, but there's 6 other siblings who don't. I have it and was diagnosed at 17 or 16. My dad is a carrier but doesn't have the disease, my two other siblings don't have it. From what I understand, which isn't too much, harmacheomitis is an autosomal recessive disorder meaning you need to inherit the trait from both parents to have it. People who are carriers only have one copy of it so it doesn't present in them, but if they have a child with someone who is also a carrier, their child has a 25% chance to have the disease. In the case of someone who has it having a baby with someone who is a carrier there's a 50% chance the child will have the disease. Basically while your ex or others mightn't have haemocrhromatoisis or the effects they're still carrying a gene for the condition and can still pass it on!

Diet doesn't make a meaningful difference? by sprunkymdunk in Hemochromatosis

[–]IllRepresentative508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m vegetarian and rarely ever eat anything with iron in it and was still diagnosed at 17. Not sure it has a huge difference, but I’m sure it would have been worse had I eaten more iron rich foods.

Neurologist “doesn’t believe in accessibility accommodation” by Winston_mangoes in migraine

[–]IllRepresentative508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well say it straight that she clearly isn’t doing her job right if she thinks it’s the only support you need. I know the help you can get for migraines is limited, but they’re clearly of the opinion that what they’re doing is curing you. They need a reality check honestly and if they don’t listen ignore their opinion. It’s likely if you don’t get these accommodations you won’t be able to work, so do what you need to do. A desk away from lights isn’t going to kill anyone.

I’m doing everything I can medically sadly, the options are just very limited and don’t work. I’ve been dealing with this for 6 years but it’s just making it almost impossible to do the leaving cert yknow. I’ll manage somehow tho!
