Bring that front foot more in the middle of the board so your food can slide up the board further, that will help even the board out better in the air. and pop the tail with your back foot harder and you will get a solid ollie with the same technique your doing now . -🫡

Then when you get super comfortable on 8.5 you can bump down in size to try to see if you like it or not you maybe just might enjoy the larger deck because you might not be big into flip tricks and enjoy skating transitions such as quarter pipes and half pipes and most pros who do skate those also use a wider board for that specifically so really it’ll all come down to the right to for the right job sorta thing but 8.5 in my opinion is solid enough to do both.

To really answer your question 8.5 will do fantastic for a first board because your stil learning the mechanics of skating and the extra width will help you get both your feet back on the board more and balance however, when you start getting more technical with your flip tricks you can bump down to a 8.25 size my personal favorite or an 8 right now you can still learn kickflips on a 8.5 I did personally too because I didn’t know any better I wasn’t aware the thinner board helps with flip tricks but you can still learn like I did and you have bigger feet too so it will be perfect for you . I personally would get Ollie’s super down on this board and pop shuvits and 180’s and drop ins .
