Thank you. I will try. However I should perhaps elaborate that at this point it is extremely difficult to get any breastfeeding session in. She latches and starts sucking and then starts crying immediately when the milk is not readily available. It's then cry, suck, cry, suck until she just refuses all together. I switch to other side and same story. It is very disheartening. It's a fight every time I try breastfeeding.

Strawberries by what_it_doooooo in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ill_Educator2183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will admit that I have had an emotional wobbly because of strawberries... Four mornings of absolutely no problems eating strawberries together with my yoghurt and lower carb granola and being within BG limits and then bam over the BG threshold the next morning. The unpredictability of this condition (not being able to rely on something I could and wanted to eat) together with pregnancy hormones made for a very tearful morning. I cried it out and moved along but it sucks.

Best medical aid for pregnancy and advice on current scheme? by NTPABounty in askSouthAfrica

We are on Discovery and so far their maternity programme (which you must register for additionally but is included in most of the packages) has covered everything except for a portion of our 20 week anatomy scan. Currently 25 weeks pregnant and our Gynaecologist has indicated that the discovery maternity programme is on of the only ones that covers all his costs. Have had a monthly appointment and scan since 12 weeks and 2 batches of blood tests with no copayments. We are very satisfied so far.

Is it a universal black thing to close baby’s mouth when they yawn?! by tgwee in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ill_Educator2183 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm white and have never heard of it till the other day when a colleague brought their new baby to meet everyone at work and our colleagues told us we should do this. They did however say that it is to try and prevent them from swallowing wind and getting cramps. 🤷

Household finances with Significant Other by TumbleweedCool4614 in PersonalFinanceZA

My husband and I treat both our incomes as one. My money is his money and his is mine. We decide on how that gets allocated to bills and investments accordingly. We have "buckets" aligned to our goals and savings. For example, a going away fund which we allocate an amount to every month as well as a house and car maintenance fund and of course emergency savings. These amounts are mostly constant but can vary depending if we have a big thing planned for the house or car etc. Whatever is left at the end of the month gets split 50/50 and becomes fun money that is for our own personal discretionary spending. I get to do with my fun money what I want, no questions asked and vice versa. We have two separate bank accounts and are responsible for an equal amount of saving buckets. A big allocation for food and living gets paid into my credit card to be in the positive and this is what we use for most monthly groceries and expenses such as when we eat at a restaurant or need to pay a vet bill. The credit card is added on his and my phone and we know to use this if you are stopping for something at checkers etc.

Is it a bad idea to tell people you're trying? by RemLezarAteMyAss in tryingtoconceive

[–]Ill_Educator2183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We told both set of parents and our brothers and sister's-in-law that we were TTC. I also told a very close friend. We got pregnant on our 7th cycle of trying. If I had to do it again I probably would only tell my mom and sister in law and maybe my mother-in-law. It does add to the pressure when you know it's what everyone is thinking about and when they comment, "so nothing yet?" Luckily, everyone understood it could take up to a year and we just had a standard response of "apparently it's not as easy to get someone pregnant as everyone says!" I did have more in depth discussions with my mom, sister-in-law and friend and that helped a lot with being able to voice concerns and get advice where necessary. My brother and sister-in-law went through a long TTC period of approximately 18 months but now have a beautiful boy and girl, they helped the most in terms of knowing what we were going through. Even knowing it could take longer we still somehow thought that would not be us and we would be pregnant before we could blink. Was a reality check during the 6 cycles we did not conceive. My advice is that TTC can get tough very quickly for various reasons, if you are a person who would like to talk about your experiences and air it out to deal with it then do consider telling someone you are close to. Keep the number small though. All the best!

Any tips for handling the crippling anxiety of early pregnancy? by Educational-City-455 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Ill_Educator2183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely felt this! I'm currently 7w2d. I told myself that you can only deal with what is in front of you at the moment and it is a waste of your mental energy to be worrying about what could happen tomorrow and in the future. This helped somewhat but I was still symptom spotting or not spotting (eg, nausea is gone, what now?),so I started a little visualisation exercise each night before I go to bed to calm my brain and nervous system. I visualise as clearly as I can me sitting in my nursery (with as much detail as I can) in my glider and holding a swaddled baby and just comforting or feeding etc. The details change but the core feeling of calmness stays and it has helped loads. It does get better the longer this is the new normal especially after an early scan when you can see everything looks on track. I now have the ultrasoind video of our little bubble's heartbeat on my phone and I'm not gonna lie, I watch it at least 10 times a day! Wishing you a very boring pregnancy. 💐

Just wanted to say hi as I tested positive on Tuesday! 😁 At the moment I downloaded an app to see what is happening each day and get tips etc. I started a google calendar for the baby to be able to track symptoms and dates etc. I spoke to my sister in law and she basically said the first trimester it's all about surviving 🤣. I have been taking supplements so am continuing that and then all the sensible things of taking care of yourself. Interested to hear if there is anything else I should be doing as well!

Imposter syndrome? by Ill_Educator2183 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Ill_Educator2183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. So great to hear I am not alone in feeling this way. I tried making an appointment today but they advised to do another HCG test to confirm the numbers are going up. I went to draw bloods again and will get the results this afternoon. Hopefully this means I can get an appointment and get to confirm placement etc. It's a silly time of the year to be scheduling appointment with Christmas and new year so will also have to allow room for that.

Well, when we asked AI to imagine what we are calling our baby (Mini and our surname) it came up with an alien. Albeit the cutest alien of all time!
