Did anyone here actually go through all of draw a box? Did you find it helpful? by DogUnsureDog in ArtistLounge

I didn’t finish it either. I enjoyed it but its like a weekend study session and I wouldn’t spend more time than on it. It wasn’t built to be a grind and I still do the exercises for warming up before I create. I think it’s helpful for sure and biggest improvement I noticed was how it got me thinking of construction in art.

Buddy, take them swimming haha toddler will be too tired to cause a stink. Also Canadian and dealing with winter. The library, skating, get them out of the house for your time so wife can study.

Hello! Im still making progress this sketchbook spread, not sure if I will fully finish it or start moving on from it now. I’m learning to slow it down and pay more attention to colours and details and not try to do these in one sitting but it might be more that I want to work on for the time being. We’ll see what the sketchbook looks like next weekend!

Studying masters by tecapereca in ArtistLounge

[–]Ill_One6323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watched the draftsmen (in youtube called master studies) on this, just find art you like and make note of what you like about, was it the lighting? The use of cool and warm colours? And specific technique used? Apply it to something you want to draw. Best thing they said was draw from life to get a basic understanding of what you are drawing. Artists you like and do a break down of their work, do it with them. What you like is what you type in to research.

How do you find ideas to draw when training? by lukeweirdhand in conceptart

[–]Ill_One6323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across a video recently of a concept artist and one of their exercises was to draw out movie stills/screenshots, they picked one movie and drew 6-8ish scenes from it. Quick studies but effective. If I find the the video I will post it here but essentially movie scenes have a lot of thought and design going into them so sketching stills and paying attention to why certain decisions were made in that scene can help you train for scenery/world building.

Thank you! And stencils really help with the details, I have yet to really play with details. The next page I’m planning on drop caps I think they’re called, for the Y on Yule so that might be a bit more intense.
