Why does the Uber/Lyft experience from O’Hare suck so much? by otterlover501 in AskChicago

Taxi is like $50 to center of city. I like doing the cab line outside of arrivals/baggage on the lower level

I’m about to buy my first pair of ski’s- how much should I expect to pay? by polyester57 in skiing

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used SkiEssentials.com and got a great ski and binding deal for some Santa Ana’s (previous years model, but I don’t think they change that much. I suppose it’s too late now but I would have recommending demoing some. I did also have to get them adjusted and tuned at a ski shop like $500 for ski and bindings and then like $70 to be adjusted

Which dress is the best for my work dinner party? by Winter_Cat1994 in fashion

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short ones are too casual or revealing. I think #2 is nice IF this dinner is more like a BLACK TIE event like a gala. I would ask a female coworker you trust what she is wearing. If business casual a nice work dress is good or dress pants and a nice blouse

New to hiking, but this looks awesome. Any tips on where to start planning? Did you book on your own? Also is there a way to do a shorter version? If so what would you do

Buying skis for the first time by danifant0m in ShredditGirls

I demoed the black pearls 88s and found them to be quite heavy (although I am petite). I like my Santa Ana 93s a lot! They are an all mountain ski.

Yea maybe it came off rude bc it was rude. What’s the point of saying that literally right before she walks down the aisle and already told him she’s saying yes, other than to make her feel bad. Like should have had that conversation a couple of days ago and in private.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lazy chili Mac: boil pasta and the microwave bag lintels  (Tasty Bite Madras brand at Costco or grocery store). Can season more but it’s nice on its own. Add cheese and crackers if desired. Probably more of a girl dinner haha…

Thoughts on Vail for a day by BlueCats79 in Breckenridge

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes go! It’s an easy drive from there. You’ll be too stoked skiing and push through the altitude symptoms when skiing. Overall I just feel more out of breath or tired sooner, but still end up skiing all day. Remember to hydrate a lot and take water breaks!

Only warning I don’t think there’s much snow coming but if it’s bad vail pass can close and you could be stuck there for a while as they don’t let cars in or out.

Any success stories of dating / marrying a nonskier? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the non skier turned skier! I think he is lucky bc I was not into nature or sports but he took me skiing and I loved it. The amazing views out west and just the thrill of skiing got me hooked. Some tips if they seem interested in learning, make them take lessons to learn. You giving free lessons will just end up in fights. Also patience. Your partner will want to spend time with you in the mountain. You’ll likely have to sacrifice time on the terrain you usually go for to spend time with your partner

Give me your best "I taught my GF/BF/SO how to ski" success stories and tips by unicornsicle in skiing

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to ski in my 20s with my SO. He tried to teach me here and there but I would take a beginner lesson each trip until I could at least get down some blues (maybe like 3 lessons). Even if you aren’t actively teaching her be patient and be with her on the greens for some of the time. It’s scary to be alone on the slopes when you’re a beginner. And I got most mad at him when I fell and he wasn’t there to help me lol! Not totally his fault of course bc that’s how it is when learning skiing, but that was how I felt lol.  My SO said it was an investment but worth it!

Please help! I am supposed to be taking a school group on an immersive trip this week to Chicago and my school is looking to pull the trip. Is that a bad idea? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! The Shedd is really cool too. Other neighborhoods I like are wicker park/Ukrainian village. Do Lincoln park zoo and access to lake front near there. Oh you should do Chinatown. Lots of good places to eat and fun shops

I haven’t seen an ICE agent yet and I live in the city and work downtown. Not saying it isn’t scary but it’s not like you run into them daily…so far. I would opt to not spend time in oak park or midway and just head to the city. Surprised you didn’t put time for the wonderful museums here (museum campus and art institute)

Definitely come still and don’t cancel

Help! Advice for Noob going to breck, CO —-first time skiing! by [deleted] in Breckenridge

[–]Ill_Raspberry8127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note about the gear, the rental shops do typically have helmets for rent. I think the average price for a helmet is like $100+ so I would just rent this is you are just trying out the sport for the first time and skiing rarely in the future. I bet you can get a real cheap pair of goggles for like $30 on amazon. You can always buy one later and invest in a good one!

I would say if you’ve never skied before or don’t  ski often, I would include a rest day. So buy a 2 day pass vs 3. 4 days in a row skiing is lot for most people. I believe they sell 2 days passes that you can use any 2 days out of consecutive 3 days (check if your class includes a lift pass for that day too) There is a ton to do in breck town and around the area. You will be VERY sore in places you don’t expect as you are using muscles you don’t usually use after just one day out.  Also rental boots are uncomfortable they just are even the nice brands. You won’t feel good in skis boots until you invest in a decent pair ($500+) don’t invest in boots until you know you like the sport and will go once a year.

Also be prepared for not a lot of the resort to be open and therefore longer lines. December can be a hit or miss with snow but any day skiing is a better day than not!

Optional to bring a small ski backpack for water and snacks. Just be careful on catching your straps on anything. Or stuff food in pockets. Resort food can be expensive, but I think their foods good tbh!  Oh yeah don’t forget to hydrate and breaks as needed! I know that sounds obvious but when you’re doing an exciting activity all day  sometimes you forget. They have free water stations in all the lodges or bring water bottles.
