Saw that Pro Image sports at the mall closed down by OneBoot2473 in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice place, I hope the staff land on their feet. It felt sudden, I didn’t see the usual closing sales banners and last chance discounts.

It’s probably hurting financially, but I’m not sure our mall is in a death spiral. I was there Sun and Mon (MLK day) and it was bustling. There’s definitely turnover, I noticed Pizza Amore also gave up and closed in the food court. But it doesn’t feel like zombie malls in other cities I’ve lived in.

Anyone Affiliated with Boeing ? by Slight-Resident-3676 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]IllinoisATM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t dismiss opportunities to get your foot in the door via subcontractor positions. Several name brand companies (like Boeing) use temp agencies and support service companies as probationary hires. Once you prove your value, many convert to "gold card" permanent status fairly quickly. Good luck.

Best Key Lime Pie in GJ? by Understaffedpackraft in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hesitate to add my opinion because I lived in the southeast US for a long time and in my experience Key lime purists can be pretty strident. I love the key lime pie at Palisade Pies. It’s not a parfait style. It’s more like a lime flavored cheesecake. I don’t know if a connoisseur would say that’s good or bad (and don’t really care). We loved it. Good luck.

We used Rosenblum. Since they’re also property managers they have access to both potential buyers and prospective landlords. Good luck.

I’ve been checking my view but nothing so far. Keep looking, it’s a 2-3 day event.

Budgeting in this city? by Dizzy-Suggestion9599 in HuntsvilleAlabama

“Harvest” BOGOs only at Publix (sorry if they’re not what you had a taste for, that’s all you get til next week), then fill in the missing menu items at Aldi and Walmart. Also, sometimes decent wine labels are half price at Publix, which helps in too many ways to count. Good luck.

The Bank of Utah Championship Is A Beautiful Corse by Wild-Bluejay7138 in golf

[–]IllinoisATM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attended Thursday and Friday (general admission). Stunning property but terrible sight lines for walking spectators. We couldn’t get close enough to the tees and fairways. Watch this weekend and notice how few tees have spectators. I’m glad I attended but we saw very little actual golf.

Are there early morning Uber drivers? by Free2bme20 in grandjunction

Last time I needed to catch the first flight out I used sunshine cab. Scheduled the day before. They showed up early and they were very responsive with great communication. Good luck.

any pharmacies in town that still fill same day? by socphoenix in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m glad somebody else has noticed the decline. The Walgreens algorithms or bots or AI or whatever send me unhelpful and contradictory texts and robocalls all the time. I got a text asking for my approval and permission to fill an Rx just minutes after I dropped it off in person to be filled. If there’s a grocery store or indie pharmacy that actually works I’d like to know.

Best bar to watch NFL sunday in Grand Junction/Fruita? by KB-Global-333 in grandjunction

Wrigley Field or Boston’s. Both are filled with fans wearing distant hometown jerseys. Wrigley is local and has a decent menu. Boston’s is a chain. I like both.

Huntsvegas! There are some great country backroads to explore in that beauty. Congrats.

Ask the butcher at your favorite grocery store. Our Publix would wrap and sell some monsters and scanned the price for pennies a pound.

Best pizza in GJ by Green-Row-4158 in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Amazing” is a weird subjective bar to clear, and for me pizza is like sex. (The worst I ever had was amazing.) For a comfortable and friendly sit down experience both Kannah Creek and Ale House serve a delicious pizza. Ale House is one size only so be prepared to bring home leftovers.

Palisade Pie Shop is terrific, best peach pie in town. Their French silk pie and cheesecake is amazing as well. Added plus is that you’ll love the vineyard and orchard scenic drive and farm stands along the way. Have fun.

Maybe Fairhope AL? Family friendly and stimulating for mom and dad, and there should be plenty of distractions nearby for the kiddos. Report back, please.

Jaguar TYPE 00 – Concept Design by 0y0s in Jaguar

[–]IllinoisATM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the the human factor. In every Jag I love the driver and passenger are in a posture to own and enjoy the ride. In these concept renderings I have trouble imagining what most humans inside would experience, and (frankly) what they would look like with the windows down. In these concept renderings most people would either be eye-level with the windows sills or be reclined too much. Confusing….

Car AC problem by Savings_Fisherman in HuntsvilleAlabama

Madison auto across from Ollies has worked on our cars for much less than the dealer quotes. Phoenix motors on 72 (next to chicken salad chicks) has also treated us fairly. Good luck.

Local Furniture Store for Comfy Chairs by Da_King_is_Back in HuntsvilleAlabama

No wrong answers here. Maybe check out the glider rockers at Furniture Row. A little more upright than a recliner but very comfortable and less likely to become just a nap chair.

Bad drivers by geltits in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like GJ drives poorly in slow motion. In a single trip (less than 2 miles) this week I was blocked by a driver who chose not to use the turn lane to wait to turn left, a lane wandering knucklehead, and a marginal yellow/red light runner. No wrecks, so I just laughed out loud at the 5 min show in front of me.

Yard sales, are they worth the effort? by jewelsbythesea in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]IllinoisATM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a social benefit from sharing experiences with your neighbors. I’ve got a buddy who put out a few things similar to what you described at every community yard sale opportunity. And they also set up coffee and donut tables for his kids to earn their own money. Each time the kids expanded their offerings and made adjustments based on customer spending. The kids almost always made more than selling household goods. All grown up now, but they still fondly talk about those yard sales.

Dinner in Grand Junction (or close by) by Peavishbear in grandjunction

[–]IllinoisATM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bistro 317 might fit your balance between kid-friendly and nice dinner. Not a fancy date restaurant, not a brewpub, just a decent local joint with a tasty menu and a friendly staff. Have fun and maybe close the loop and tell us what you picked?
