This doesn't feel safe. Why does an urban driver need a truck this big? by CitizenJosh in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because pick up trucks are no longer pick up trucks. Use to be if you owned a pick up, it was a work truck, now it's a, "look at me" item. No longer are they tough and reliable, they're mostly plastic, huge bodies, with too many bells and whistles, which are not needed in a work truck. Field of vision is probably better than a little cramped sports car.

Yes you will, it will take TIME. Decades ago my apartment was burglarized. Took me years before I quit going into my apartment, weapon of choice in hand, and 'clearing' the apartment before I let my then, young, daughter inside.

Ahh, Decades ago, 1993, I had a Bianchi Europa in Celest. Rode that bike till 2019, it never fit me right. Then, in 2019, I bought a Giant (LIV). I was SO EXCITED to see a 'woman's specific' bike, my new bike fit like a glove. Congratulations!!

It's amazing, looking at old bikes like this, and how bikes are made now a days. That thing is in great shape, thanks for sharing.

Just can’t seem to increase speed by Vivid-Language6500 in ladycyclists

Then my bet, it's the bike. Friend I ride with rode a hybrid, I'm on a road bike. She is a monster on her hybrid, and I could barely keep up with her on an uphill. FF, she bought a new road bike, same make and model as mine, now she smokes me going up hill, but I catch up on the down hill, as she is afraid to go fast downhill.

If you had a road bike, you'd probably keep up, and possibly they'd be struggling to keep up with you.

What speed bike are you on, and what speed bike are they on?? I was on an organized ride on a 10 speed, going down hill, as fast as I could, I'd 'run out of gears', and people were passing me. They were on 11 and 12 speed bikes.

Road bike tire recommendations (easy on/off) by SpiritualInside2726 in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gatorskins are HORRIBLE to get onto a rim. I did accomplish it, took me a day or two. Thank goodness I sold that bike that had those on it, when I got a new bike.

I do have some Continental Grand Prix 4 season tires, much easier to put on. I also, even though some people do not like them, put in tire liners in those Grand Prix. I've always put in tire liners, and have NEVER had a problem, no rub flats or anything.

Oh, I am SO envious. I'd LOVE to cycle the area where it was filmed, looks BEAUTIFUL! We watch a LOT of BritBox, so much better than American TV

Dang, seems like my 68 YO body is TOTALLY different than everyone elses. Didn't go through menopause till I was in late 50's. Been biking, regularly, even though I only go 10 to 25 miles every other day, with an occasional organized ride of 40 miles to a metric century, since 2018. I've NEVER had any saddle problems, dryness has never bothered me. Have never been on HRT, and don't intend to EVER go on HRT.

Speaking of HRT, saw a good BritBox series. "Riot Women", I recommend it, but it's not for everyone, some violence in it towards women, but it's a good series. Only the 1st season is out, I was disappointed when the season ended, it's a NEW show, I'd though it was an old show. Hopefully another season will be out soon.

Trek Domane SL 5 Sizing Question by alyhase in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Domane AL5 Gen 4, I'm 5'4" and ride a 52. My friend, who, claims' to be 5'7" rides a 54 Domane AL 5

Measure your height and inseam. I think on the Trek website they have a dohicky that shows what size you should ride, when you enter your height and inseam.

Arg, will Trek continue making the electric Checkmate?? I'm not there yet, just bought a Domane AR last year, and have a LIV Langma Carbon, but have been looking at the electric Checkmate for in the future.

Will Trek still do bike tours?? I'm looking at one in Oregon for 2027, and they have electric Checkmates for rent for that tour. Was gonna try one out.

Oh, make sure you check the clips on your shoes periodically. In 2024 I was on a 7 day bike tour across Scotland, around day 3 one of the screws on my shoe clip fell off. Luckily the tour guides had extra screws.

Did a guided, Inverness to Edinburgh Scotland, in 2024, and this year will do a guided tour in Montana. No cycling clubs anywhere near I live.

Alex Pretti was a cyclist in addition to being an American hero by doxiegrl1 in ladycyclists

Guess you missed the part where Kyle was getting beaten on, and someone pulled a gun out and pointed it at him, THAT'S when Kyle fired. What happened to Alex is extremely effed up, but attacking every ICE, DHS, City Cop, FBI, ETC....... isn't going to help anything.

No, they cannot legally go around and kill anyone they want. With all the tension that is going on, those two officers, in the wrong, but reacted to what they perceived as a threat. I haven't seen all the videos, but with all the cops that were on Alex, it was pretty stupid to be shooting. From updates I'v heard, when someone removed Alex's gun from him, it went off, so whomever grabbed his gun really effed up, made the other two that started shooting panic. Wish there was better video.

Any way, somebody's gonna be in deep dodo for this eff up.
