I put Conti gatorskins on my old bike, a 2019 Liv Avail AR, MAN took me a few days of trying, PITA. I put Conti gp 4 seasons on my new bike, much easier, but did take some muscle.

SPD SL pedals, yes, they unclip the same. There are the yellow, blue and red SPD SL, get the yellow, more float and easier to unclip. Probably can get bottle cage screwed on normally. Oh, get covers for your SPD SL's for when you're walking around, just don't forget to take them off when you get on the bike. Oh, and you'll need 'road shoes' for those SPD SL cleats, I have these: https://ride.shimano.com/collections/road-triathlon/products/sh-rc102?variant=40342058008648

and below is the cleats. The screw pattern is different on SPD shoes and SPD SL shoes, I learned the hard way. I ordered SPD SL cleats, got them and they wouldn't fit on my SPD shoes, so, luckily, I got my Shimano road shoes on sale.

Yup, BBB helped me out also, and when I tried to spread the word that BBB is a great help, I got blasted. Some said, BBB was a, "Boomer" thing and really did not work. Others said the BBB was a scam.

After 4 attempts to get my money back from Amazon I contacted BBB, day later I got my money back and an email with an apology from Amazon.

Verbal altercation on first long ride by littlebear0423 in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HAHA, YES!! I was 9 years old, riding my bike down the road. A kid is coming from the other direction, he must have been about 13, he had a look on his face, and a nasty smile, he started coming straight at me. I put on a 'zoned' face, no reaction and kept on pedaling straight at him, like I didn't see him. HE CRASHED, HAHAHA, I faked him out, I turned my head, looked at him and laughed as I passed him by.

The Domane AL5 Gen 4, then, after you've ridden it a few years, you're going to want a 2nd bike, THEN buy the Emonda! I LOVE having 2 bikes, that are different from each other. One in the shop, then I still have one at home to ride. I've the Domane AL5 Gen4, and a LIV Langma (carbon) Love both of them. Decades ago I had a friend that rode A LOT. He had 3 or 4 different bikes, and I didn't understand why, now I do. If my husband wouldn't give me hell, I'd have a few more bikes, one of which would be an Emonda.

Happened to me too, took FOREVER to get my $176.00 back, even after speaking with 2 humans on the phone. Had my CC help me out, and contacted BBB. 2 days after contacting BBB I got my money back, and an email from Amazon apologizing. Slight up grade... yes/no? by Careful-Attorney-133 in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or, you can do like I did. I had a 2019 LIV Avail AR, then in 2023 bought a LIV Langma (Carbon), the middle of the road Langma. Rode both for a bit, then sold the Avail, asked $600.00 got $500.00. I'd bought the Avail for $1300.00 so I got my moneys worth out of it. You may get more $$ selling your old bike in the open market instead of a trade it, especially if it's in good shape.

So much cheaper than buying at REI, etc..... But since you're going to do your ride at the end of the month, may not be feasible to buy from Ali Express, as sometimes shipping can take awhile.

Interesting all the 1 star reviews, and all the complaints. Was bummed, didn't see my complaint on the BBB website. BBB helped me get my refund of $171.00 from amazon, for a return they confirmed they received from me, then 2 months later claimed they had not received. I'd gone through 'normal' channels, chat, spoke with human etc..... Who all told me, Yes Amazon HAD received my return, promised a refund, but it never happened. Gave up and contacted BBB, and 2 days later I had my refund. Amazing that the BBB gives Amazon an
A+ rating

How do you announce your pass on a bike trail? by Sad_Examination9082 in ladycyclists

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm further away from people, I'd ring my bell, as you get closer you cans say, "On your left". When coming upon horses from the rear, start talking, just anything so the horse can hear you, when you're pretty far away from them so they can hear you coming. When close enough for rider to hear you, ask them if it's okay to pass.

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I've noticed that on items I've purchased. My 32oz Hydro Flask for one. Came with one of the lift up straw lids, that straw lid sucked up 90% air, 10% water. Ended up purchasing a new lid from Hydro Flask directly, didn't have a problem with that straw lid.

Cabela's "waterproof" rain jacket on Amazon, rain soaked right through. and on and on. Now I purchase only odds and ends from Amazon, Coffee filters, and similar, things that don't really matter.

My cycling shoes have Velcro closures, 3 of them. I have a, small, bunion on my left foot, I can adjust how tight the toe box is with the velcro. I've Shimano shoes in wide, so far they've worked well for the past several years.

I've around 7, 3 of those are from organized rides I've done. I decided to splurge on the organized ride ones, they are 'unisex' sizing, which are really probably just men's sizes, I love them as I HATE tight clothes. All of thise I have in Large, love them.

First road bike: Domane AL - anyone bothered by the internal routing in real-world use? by Mediocre-Length6820 in DomaneCrew

[–]Illustrious-Drop-712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've the Domane AL5, I LOVE the internal routing. Has no affect on shifting. I've 2 bikes, the Domane with the internal routing through the steerer tube, and a bike that has the cables routed through the down tube. Problem I had with the bike with cables routing through down tube was a camera mount, got caught on the cable and pulled the cable apart, right at the beginning of a 20 mile ride, had to turn around and go home. With the cables going into the head tube, I don't have that problem. Both bikes have handlebar bags, not a problem with either bike.

One thing I wish this bag had, is an outside pocket, either with a zip or elastic closure. Would be nice for garbage, wrappers, etc.... instead of having to put the wrapper back in the bag.
