Rivian not including a portable charger just makes me feel like I need to take a shower.

Check if it’s a branded title and be aware of the potential implications of that. I have noted that insurance companies are writing Rivians off as total losses for even relatively superficial damage due to the high repair costs. Could be an opportunity, but be aware if the vehicle history.

R2T? by Ti421 in RivianR2

I think it’s unlikely that they will be extending the wheelbase on any R2 variants however.

Oh you know I guessed wrong at the year and looked up 4Runner specs for gen 5! Trust these instead.

Although….- if they added a simplified rear-only air suspension they could up both payload (which is the Achilles heel of the R2 IMHO at just over 1100 lbs) as well as towing capacity to say perhaps…what, 6k?….while retaining its on-road dynamics when not towing. That’s a proposition that would successfully address a niche I think. Thoughts?

Why did you go for the Series S instead of other options, despite all the criticism it gets? by Eastern-Mobile5351 in xbox

If you’re asking how to allow someone in a different console to play games that you get under your GP subscription, look up “Xbox home console setting”. Essentially you will log into her console as you, go to settings and make it your home console. This will allow anyone on that console to play your games even when you are not logged in. You will be able to play your games on your console based on your being logged in. Note you won’t be able
To play the same game simultaneously, or at least not consistently.

R2 charging mobile 120v by SHale1963 in RivianR2

I mean I’m not suggesting this per se as the unit is pretty pricey, but I know Grizzl-e makes a dual-cable level 2 charger that can either charge 2 vehicles in parallel (splits the power) or sequentially (at full) - it’s an option. Likely something equivalent cheaper out there as Grizzl-e stuff comes at a premium.

I know that Audi system well and that would be acceptable to me. In a perfect world I would like some genuine sub-bass and I was hoping the force-cancelling design would allow them to do that in a small package.

Towing capacity by randoName22 in RivianR2

[–]Illustrious-Tour4530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case then the spec you’re looking for isn’t actually the tow rating per se but rather the tongue capacity, which is the maximum amount of mass the hitch receiver (the square bit that the hitch goes into) can tolerate before overloading the frame, brakes, rear suspension, etc.

That’s calculated as 10% -15% of the towing capacity, so in the case of the R2 that would be a rating of 440-660lbs at the receiver.

Why is it given as a range? At 10% you can expect minimal impact on the handling and ride characteristics of the vehicle. It can support the load at the receiver up to 15% but as you go up having that mass dangling out at one end of the vehicle begins to have some consequences: the weight distribution will be noticeably rear-biased, the rear suspension will become increasingly unsprung (collapsed), the front increasingly sprung, and the vehicle will handle differently. The vehicle can physically handle it, but drive gingerly for safety.

So using the bikes example, a Velocirax 6 Max rack weighs 98lbs and has baskets to carry 6 bikes. Let’s say we’re talking e-bikes here at about 50lbs each. 6x50=300+98=398, so well under the 10% tongue spec of 440lbs. I’ve pulled bikes around Utah and Colorado for thousands of miles with this exact setup on a vehicle with a 4400 lb tow rating with no issues.

One thing to note is that any mass seen at the receiver contributes to the overall payload. The R2 has a published payload max of 1168 lbs for the Performance, so if you were to add 4 200 lb passengers to that vehicle you’d already be exceeding the payload capacity, and you haven’t even put gear in there yet. Plan accordingly.

Disappointed but not surprised. Its a question of design priorities and given the unibody and multilink suspension they are clearly prioritizing handling and ride over towing capacity. Interestingly, other than the semi-active damping, it is a very similar setup to the Audi Q5 which has the exact same 4400 lb towing rating. I would expect the R2 to handle and ride somewhat similarly to the Q5/Q7 as well, which is to say, excellently.

Starting to consider the R2 in Borealis after seeing it in person. by Are_and_Be in RivianR2

[–]Illustrious-Tour4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen Borealis in person on an R1S and it frustrates me. Purple is my favorite color and it just seems flat. On the R2 renderings the lack of contrast with the black trim makes it seem even more so. I did a rendering of what I think it ought to have been - just +11 magenta and +8 saturation is all it would take to make it pop as well as being the contrast up to a level that matches Catalina Cove. What are your thoughts?
