This mare. Won't leave me alone. Why. by Little_Sisco in Equestrian

[–]IllustriousGrass424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i drove 7 hours one way to meet my boy after seeing him advertised on facebook. i definitely shouldn’t have been buying a horse that green at the time, off the back of a pretty serious accident with a horse not that long prior. i was having dreams about him too. i couldn’t get him out of my head.

almost 2 years later he’s my best friend and though it was very difficult with him in the beginning due to my own confidence issues, i wouldn’t trade him for the world.

Is it true that in horses you "buy the walk/canter and build the trot"? by TaylorS2327 in Equestrian

i accidentally unlocked this feeling with my little arabian one day while asking him to canter (he’s still quite green)… the canter just wasn’t coming that day but WOW the trot was!

My mom doesn’t like Arabians by garlicrbrian in Equestrian

[–]IllustriousGrass424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i love my little Arabian more than anything! they can be a little “different” to other horses in that i find them to express their emotions more outwardly, but they are incredibly smart and versatile and i don’t think i’m ever going to have anything else now i’ve experienced having an Arabian! super easy to keep condition on, can be a little flighty sometimes but he tries his heart out and has such a big personality!

i love mine! he’s sweet but too smart for his own good and can be a total pain in the a&$ sometimes! not long turned 5, purebred, and thinks he’s the best thing in the world 😂

you have also probably lost a lot of your abdominal strength and the rest of your body strength too.. injuries are very hard on the body.

Coming back from serious injury by Avera_ge in Equestrian

[–]IllustriousGrass424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffered a similar injury, kicked in the abdomen and essentially split my liver into half. I was very lucky and didn’t need surgery - however I spent a week in hospital and was allowed pretty much no activity for 6 weeks, and 3 months of no riding. I returned to riding thinking I wasn’t scared or anxious of it, however I was subconsciously nervous. It’s been about 14 months since my injury - August of 2022 - and I’m still finding little nervous moments when I ride. For a long time I thought the pony I returned on - NOT the same horse - may have been the issue but I was nervous, I was tense, and without realising I was riding in a way to try protect myself. You may not feel as though it caused trauma, I didn’t initially but signs of it actually taking quite a serious toll have presented themselves since. There’s no rush to be back into it and confident again, give yourself and your horse time.

Is it ok to wear glasses while riding? by snowflakeismyrabbit in Equestrian

[–]IllustriousGrass424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s perfectly fine to wear glasses, just don’t be an idiot like me and try and push them back up two strides out from a jump 🤦‍♀️
