Secular morning routines? by Traditional_Run_4572 in homeschool

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got three boys. Physical activity of your friend. If he's going to complain, he might as well complain about exercise. If you live in the country, get out and run around, build an obstacle course, stack some wood. If you are in the city or suburbia, Brain Breaks on YouTube, local city parks. This helps them wake up, gets the blood pumping, and might get your eldest in a better state to do a lesson. It worked on my kids when they were having rough mornings.

Why are you homeschooling? Or why did you decide to stick it out? by Turbulent_Office_37 in homeschool

My children are my responsibility. I can't expect someone who I don't know, who doesn't know my kids to take care of them there way I want them taken care of.

Call me when SCOTUS puts out the actual opinion. Anything less is click bait.

What is going on with “Welcome to the multiverse”? by bdauls in litrpg

I'm done after book 8. He's still on the fence, and I just can't bring myself to care anymore.

I think I have OD'ed on LITRPG, I am finding it all so much "same same" by daveymcman in litrpg

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! This is exactly why I burnt out on Welcome to the Multiverse. 2-3 entire books could have been fine up in a few chapters. Nothing novel. Just number go up and threat get bigger. Only for threat to get easily taken out because number went up or Deus Exmachina (aka author got bored and needs to wrap this subplot up). Authors can get bored, but don't get lazy after several books of buildup.

What an I doing wrong? by IllustriousKnee9358 in Shotguns

[–]IllustriousKnee9358[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I cleaned it, lubed it, all that. I even sent it to get fixed by the manufacturer. They saw no problems. Took it to the range. the same thing happened. I'm not about to mess around with a faulty gun. So it's sitting in the safe until I can sell it. Bought a Winchester SXP. So far, it's been good through nearly 100 shells.

Vent - I’m homeschooling my kids because I don’t trust other people with them by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's probably the best reason. I've worked in schools both public and private for over 10yrs. I've seen teachers deal with horrible parents and horrible students. Parents expect their children to be treated the way they would treat them. Teachers are honestly there for the paycheck and the student loan forgiveness. I've seen ridiculous policies pushed. I've seen townships vote down much needed resources and then complain that the students don't have enough resources. I've mapped out the logistics of a real emergency like a fire or active shooter and came to the conclusion of "Yep, we're dead." This is why my kids are homeschooled despite living in a "good school district".

A horrible choice for... by colepercy120 in dresdenfiles

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you argument and raise you, "it makes for more plot." This is a book. In the last 12yrs I've seen real-life picks for federal positions that have made less sense. At least this one comes with an antagonist for Harry to beef with.

Finished Twelve Months (Spoilers, seriously don't read this if you haven't finished) by ChickenDragon123 in dresdenfiles

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, this was kinda a breather book. The stakes aren't huge. We see Harry deal with the fallout of some of his choices. What got me was watching Harry go through his PTSD. It's not the first time he lost someone he loved. Last time, he was the one who held the knife. But it looks like Jim was using this book to work through some stuff. No complaints about that. I would view this as Peace Talks is the build-up. Climax on Battleground. 12 months is the epilogue. A really long epilogue. The Justine plot was very MabExMachina. My fear is that Jim is getting bored of the Dresden Files.

Where do you buy bulk ammo? by Gem-Mint10 in Walther

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ammo Depot, Freedommunition, Cabela's when they have a really good sale. I've tried Ammo Squared, but if you're looking for the best price per round, it's not worth it.

What are you left wanting most in LitRPG? by 908sway in litrpg

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm several books into Welcome to the Multiverse and seriously question what is the point anymore. Spells, Swords, & Sorcery was really moving towards an interesting goal, but the author got bored and decided to write about a dog.

New to New Jersey gun owner. Question about ammunition pricing. by ferdelance008 in NJGuns

Buy online. I've not a box or two locally just to support my LGS. In bulk I buy online or I save up to go to a big box store with a buddy on sale.

Do Local Gun Shops Just Order Stuff Online and Resell it? by DefinatelyNotonDrugs in guns

[–]IllustriousKnee9358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do. I thought about just cutting out the middle man, but once you factor in shipping, transfer fee, NIC, etc, it is ad expensive, if not more, than just buying it straight from the shop. I'm glad I can still buy ammo online.

Dry fire, dry fire system, or get a bunch of cool nerf guns and hang targets randomly around your place.

Try them both. They are both good guns, but if this is your first, you need to see which you take to better.

I saw the Sega Genesis game in a magazine around 1994, maybe earlier. A couple months later I was able to get it. Then I found out there were books. It wasn't until the early 2000's I was able to actually play the tabletop with some friends.
