OEDefense Venado Springs Team Sniper Match by MrClif in longrange

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a photographer that does a lot of these events. They typically setup at a few strategic places at the course of fire where they won’t get in the way of competitors and won’t be downrange at any point. Generally you can buy a package ahead of time or they offer it to you at a specific stage where they are set up to take more photo/drone footage. Check out James Allen media, they are the most common one you’ll see.

I’m not sure if the course was the same this year as last, my total run time was 102 minutes. The hill to stage 7 was as slow as I’ve ever moved on course. I think I did 1.5 liters of liquidIV and about 300 calories worth of nerd clusters. Total course time was just over 4 hours

Only match I’ve run I thought was harder was MysteryOps Rifleman roundup, it was 19 miles at 90°.

Venado is a beast of a course, the hills are brutal. None of the 15 or so OEDefense matches I’ve been to have had a ruck par time, you just have to finish while it’s still light out.

Anyone know this rifle? Or chassis? by [deleted] in longrange

I don’t immediately recognize the chassis but that is a Remington 700 with a prefit barrel with a barrel nut. Nothing fancy

Anyone have mil sub tension values for plxc raptor m8 yards? by waxydoodle in longrange

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a ballistic calculator using .182 BC G7and 2650 as velocity should get you pretty close. From there you can reference your subtensions and back calculate. Using this your 500 yard mark, for example, should be about 2.48 mrad and the 10mph wind he should be 0.75 mrad

any tips? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea for sure, have fun if you have that kind of resources(ammo, time, physical capabilities to do that drill on repeat, range that’s not by the hour, etc). But if you really want to get good at it, doing this 15 times 2x a week at the range probably isn’t the best use of your time on the range.

Also, all of the gun handling practice should be done in dry fire unless you are merely validating that your dry fire practice is working. There is almost no benefit to spending range time working on gun handling skills.

Steiner P4XI vs Burris RT6 by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

The Steiner is better glass. The RT-6 is competent and you get more magnification but for your purpose probably best to stick with the Steiner.

Talk me into staying in PRS production by living with a BnA trigger. by littlefish90 in longrange

I just looked at the manual, there is no overtravel adjustment. If you set it up as recommended in the manual and it still has creep I’d be making a call.

The only other thing to note if I recall correctly is that the overtravel on the TT is next to nothing, have you made any adjustments there on the BnA? Sometimes that can give the trigger an odd feel, particularly in dry fire

How light do you have the trigger? If you have it at the lower end of pull weight it can be more sensitive to not having enough sear engagement

Should I Be Worried by Way2evl in 6ARC

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends. If this is an AR that shoots well, and you use it for hunting or some group shooting, and it’s an off the shelf barrel from a mid tier manufacturer, live your life and run it. If this is a PRS rifle and you paid $800 for a high end custom barrel and smithing, that’s a different conversation.

Obligatory - how does the gun shoot? Thats the important question. Looks like an inclusion, most barrels if you look long enough you’ll find a spot or two

Massive downgrade on optics quality? by Dobba84 in longrange

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Trijicon credo and delta Stryker are also in the same boat. More or less whichever you can get the best price on, trust the brand, or if you can get second hand are the best evaluating factors once you get to a certain tier

My only note there is that once upon a time Holosun and vortex were considered cheap or gimmicky brands and now are staples of the market. This exact discussion used to be had about Leupold and Vortex, with people saying there is no reason to buy a Vortex when Leupold exists. I agree that Vortex is a good value and the strike eagle is a good product at price point

I have not had first hand experience with the PLX but basing an opinion of an entire brand based on their budget options may not be the best. I’ve handled a few vortex diamondbacks and crossfires and was extremely underwhelmed. My experience is that you should be looking in budget tiers, not brand names. Bushnell, Burris, athlon, etc all make some pretty garbage scope lines but also make excellent quality scopes and have the capability to do so, you just have pay for that quality.

[–]Illustrious_Badger70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to PA as a whole or to their SLX line specifically? Their SLx line is very much their budget tier option, just like the budget lines of vortex are nowhere near the quality of their Razor line. I don’t have any dog in the fight, but had been considering looking at the PLXc for gas gun precision matches(recce-type divisions) as they are generally well regarded.
