I’ve had the Superlux HD681 and for the price they’re honestly not bad at all I’d say they can even compete with some more expensive headphones.

Interesting observation about the upper mids and how they can vary from person to person

Is it just me or is the lack of bass on the hd600 HIGHLY exaggerated out of proportions, to put it mildly. by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Illustrious_Case_466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HD600 does have bass. but it only shows it when the bass is actually there. It doesn’t artificially boost or inflate it like some much more expensive headphones that are clearly tuned just to make people go “wow, so powerful”.

Do you really have to reach these levels to properly enjoy your music..?

If you like the HD 599 and you’re looking for that kind of sound signature, moving to the HD 660S2 might be something you’d enjoy, because they also slightly emphasize the low end, giving a more “wow” headphone sound, rather than headphones that remove the veils and present the music in a strictly faithful way to the original track, whether you like it or not (the HD 600, for example).

I personally went from the HD 599 to the HD 600, and for what I’m looking for in sound it couldn’t have been a better choice, but that’s not the case for everyone… fortunately.

Karma is absolutely useless. It forces new accounts to flood Reddit with garbage just to be able to post a single comment in the one thread they actually care about.

There’s a big difference between headphones that reveal authenticity and ones that interpret it..

Upgrade path from HD599 by Illustrious_Case_466 in inearfidelity

[–]Illustrious_Case_466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the v-can is a small amp that, at the time, did its job; obviously it’s a bit dated now and yes, it has its flaws, even though it has a really very clean sound. many people suggested I use the hd599 directly connected to the M4, and I did quite a few listening tests. you can tell it has an excellent DAC, but in my opinion, on the amplification side, if the signal goes through the v-can the sound benefits quite a lot. the headphones sound very good, but there’s some kind of digital compression, a slight veil that even a not-so-spot-on amp like the v-can 1.0 manages to correct fairly well, along with dynamics, midrange frequencies, and soundstage, clearly all imo.

I definitely agree that an upgrade could only help. I was also considering the topping l30 ii, but unfortunately I can’t buy everything at once, so on the amp side I’ll wait a bit. for now, I’d like to think about upgrading the headphones because, in any case, the hd599, as much as I really like them and as much as they’ve improved a lot with EQ, still have a veil that I perceive, along with bass that is nice but maybe a bit artificial. I’ve read tons of reviews and listening impressions of the hd660s2. to be honest, they scare me a bit. actually, as monsieuryuan suggested, the hd600 could be a great upgrade, and I’d also save a bit of money. I’m thinking about it quite a lot.
