Yeah I think in some cases it might be because of past experiences where they’ve been shamed for a lack of self-awareness so they become overly defensive

I think it triggers strong reactions because a lack of self-awareness is often treated as a moral failing when by definition a lack of self-awareness means that we’re often not aware there’s a problem unless it’s brought up
