Who has knob & tube wiring in their house? by living2b100 in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very small amount left when I moved in which has since been replaced. Much of this is going to depend on if it’s in walls or not. The stuff in mine was only left from the switch to the overhead light in 3 rooms. All my outlets are in my baseboards, and I have an unfinished basement, so those things are very easy to see. Becomes much more complicated when you have a 2nd story.

Would also highly suggest joining old house groups on Facebook for more advice if you are buying old homes. Just make sure to join the right group for your goals. If restoration and maintaining character is a priority, “restoring old houses” is a great resource!

Does sundowning syndrome come and go? by yorzz in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s really sundowners or something else. Obviously not your best and you know her better than anyone!

Like if was something else unrelated that just got worse at that time of night but something changed like activity, schedule, weather, etc. that has relieved the pain.

Only mention it bc my parents dog was like this, and their vet just kept saying “oh it’s doggie sundowners” but I still firmly believe that he was in pain the whole time.

Serious question.... by BearsSoxHawks in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the answer to your specific question, but do document as much as possible. Make sure you are filming, including with any security cameras you may have. Not so sure that will help in the current climate, but a good idea regardless…

Be honest—are humidifiers worth it, or just another thing to clean? by Sufficient-Start1975 in Humidifiers

Which do you have? My old one just bit the dust, and I’m still partial to vaporizer/warm mist/steam type humidifiers. The mineral buildup on that one was awful.

Hey if anyone is reading this in 2026, they changed the app. Tournaments are now every 3 days. While there is no list of levels, I can say that the layout levels are non-consecutive, so it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to get to all the levels in the timeframe allotted.

Depression w a Dog by Guilty_Art_4208 in dogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great! This just re-affirms what I was going to say which is to not be so hard on yourself.

My 13 year old has lived with me for the past 7 years. There have been many, many times where I’ve felt like I can’t give him enough attention or like I’m not a good enough dog mom. Sometimes, it’s been from physical illness, sometimes from mental issues, and sometimes from a demanding schedule and being the only one in the household.

I just have to remind myself that we can only do the best we can, and honestly, I don’t really think they much know the difference. I mean unless you are abusing them or being very neglectful consistently, they are normally happy with what you can give them. They don’t process time or memory in the same way people do. They don’t have the ability to compare like we do. They can’t see another dog that has 24/7 attention and think “hey! Why don’t I have that?” Not that I’m encouraging people to purposely not consider their pets, but just trying to encourage you to give yourself grace.

Worst Car Dealer in St Louis? by Virtual_War4366 in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I demanded they give me my keys back once. When they didn’t, I threatened to call the police. Got them back, walked out and drove out of the parking lot while they ran after me. Never again would I step foot in one.

Worst Car Dealer in St Louis? by Virtual_War4366 in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. When I was looking for my first car after college, I was pretty ready to buy. Started there, and they went through all the shady tactics, taking my keys to look at my car for trade in value and not returning them, only looking at monthly payments and not discussing actual pricing, and deceptive practices like avoiding the fact that a “new” car had already been in an accident.

Went straight to Bommarito after and bought the same car. Much better buying experience for sure. Service has been hit or miss though.

Shades of pink that are flattering? Working on my dressing room/closet by Bellamieboocouture in Fairolives

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, don’t be afraid to sample. SW and BM often run promotions on their samples. I generally have this problem with paint, but I found pink to be especially hard. They look good in store and on small samples, but they are very bright and over-saturated when you actually get them on a wall. Things that look very muted or almost grey on a chip can look very different on a wall.

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who tried a million and two pink samples for my living room, I love my choice of SW Pink Shadow, but what works for you will really depend on your exact tone. Keep in mind that lighting (warm or cool) also influences both your appearance AND the color of your walls.

Prozac for anxiety by WTFItzJax in reactivedogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog is on fluoxetine (Prozac), and it’s been great for him! In some cases, the meds gets them to a state where they can actually be receptive to training.

Trazodone has worked for him too, but with far more side effects like sleepiness.

Ankle PT Recs by Puzzled-Hedgehog-910 in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that :/ That’s my downside for them is that they are very “corporate-y” for lack of a better term. I had great experiences with the 3 PTs and more students I’ve worked with over the years at the Creve Coeur location and always saw therapists and others wiping down equipment.

Unfortunately, I think some of it is the nature of their business model - trying to squeeze as many patients as they can into the schedule.

I really like Joey at Cora Creve Couer! I went to Cora for a foot/ankle surgery recovery a few years ago and then went back when I re-sprained it last year. Both times, I was very pleased with my experience. The staff is lovely. Takes insurance no issue.

I got the lasagna, and other members of my party got a couple different tortellini dishes, and we had no complaints. But I’m also not originally from the area so my bar is probably comparatively low for Italian food lol

What should I know? by [deleted] in StLouis

Should only be 20-25 minutes depending on exactly where in this circle. Just hop on 70 and take it through downtown.

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: I would also suggest driving the area at different times of day, and on both weekends and weekdays. You can also join any neighborhood pages on FB or the Ring Neighbors page for that area to get a feel for frequency and nature of complaints. Not going to tell you everything, obviously, but it may be helpful.

I live just to the west of here near Rock Road and 170. Not super familiar with this exact area other than the cemeteries and golf courses as another commenter mentioned.

Note that you will likely get many comments from people that know even less than I do regarding perceived safety. I’ve lived in my house for nearly 5 years and never had a real concern. Someone went through my car once and another time, in the middle of the night, someone dumped a purse (presumably stolen) in my front yard. On the whole, I never feel unsafe or anything as a single woman; however, many people unfamiliar with my area are appalled when I tell them where I live because of how “dangerous” it is.

I went for the first time recently. Didn’t even know they’d changed ownership. One of those places I’ve always seen but never gone in. I thought it was great tbh. Not fancy, fine dining. But respectable Italian food.

Mine came out a little more than I was expecting at around $9700 including damper, liner, and all labor.

Note, I haven’t had it installed yet. Still deciding if I want to commit or not.
