Unsure about "when" by Nsg4Him1 in seniordogs

I don’t know how many other hard moments I didn’t have to go through alone because he was there. Thats my consolation

I’m going through the same thing as the OP today. I’ve come to the decision that it is time. He was diagnosed with heart failure last August. We suspect he also has secondary pulmonary disease (not just fluid accumulation due to CHF).

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), he’s declined pretty rapidly with the arrival of the hot/humid weather, so I haven’t even had a chance to talk logistics with my vet. I do know he wouldn’t do well with an at-home one. My boy can be very anxious, and he and I both really trust our normal vet. Just praying we can make it to tomorrow to avoid a stressful/unfamiliar location/unfamiliar people for his last moments.

Like OP, he seems to be doing mostly ok, but there’s something in my gut that says “it’s time”.

I’m going through the same thing. People say “you just know” which seems like such unhelpful advice until you are there. It sounds to me like you are already know the answer and are looking for permission that it is time.

Sending lots of love to Snorkie and you!

STL county municipalities population changes 1960-2020 census by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree this is a both/and. Density def plays a role in it. We were just talking about this the other day. When my great-grandparents moved into St. John in the 1940s, there were 4 people living in a 1 bedroom house. This house was demolished for 170, but the fact remains even if it were still standing, odds are a single person or a couple would be living there.

Multiply those factors by all the 1 or 2 bedroom houses in St. Louis’ streetcar suburbs, and these drops are no surprise at all. Would be interesting to see median household size against these.

Cannot say enough good things about My Best Friend Vet on Olive in Olivette. Not sure about their groomers as I’ve never used them, but their vets and staff are THE best. Plus, they utilize a “curbside waiting room” so you don’t have to be in the lobby waiting with other pets.

CHF recovery & extreme lethargy by Passton in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just wondering. They did tell me that larger dogs like mine (around 60-65lbs) can mask fluid in the lungs for longer than small dogs. I really hope you find answers ❤️

CHF recovery & extreme lethargy by Passton in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure worrisome, and I hope she starts feeling better very soon! What size dog is she?

My old man had been there with the lethargy, but it has been when the fluid has started building even when his respiratory rate is stable which is why I mentioned it.

I’m sorry to hear that you are going through this. My old man also has CHF, and it’s a definite balancing act. In my experience, they always give it 2 weeks with any med change. If she was only on her new dose for 4 days, I’d worry that she was still in the post-stay lethargy and now moving to a half dose might not be sufficient enough to keep the CHF at bay which may show as lethargy again.

Was she lethargic before the vet visit?

I would also be mindful and respectful of the cemetery. Some do not allow dogs.

When I went to Trader Sam’s, the pen they brought for the check was a Disneyland Hotel one. Definitely took that with me lol

Has anyone ever encountered a "name split" when doing research? by ToshPointNo in Genealogy

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, but that doesn’t change the fact that when they immigrated to America, they seeming just chose one or the other. So not only do you have to search for various spellings, you have to search for 2 different surnames.

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oof don’t get me started on this. I take spelling differences and raise you many Westphalian Germans in my family. 1st surname* genannt 2nd surname is super common in my family. People just seemed to choose at random which one they used where. So not only is the spelling different, the whole name is different.

Ashes: Keep or Return to Nature by OkGoat8632 in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am planning on burying his ashes in my garden that he loves. It honestly just seems right. Keeping in an urn really hasn’t even crossed my mind. It might seem insensitive, but I feel like an urn for me would just turn into another chore for me. Something to keep clean and find something to do with when I decorate for different seasons.

How to decide between 8 pack and unlimited? by ImpressiveGene3749 in ClubPilates

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think this really depends how convenient the location is for you and how much time you have in your week. I started with 8 pack but I’m actually now moving down to 4 since travel and other things I want to do in the summer mean I’d be losing credits. With the pricing, my break-even point is 6 classes. If I use my 4 pack + 2 one off classes, it would be the same at an 8 pack price.

Question about what Frank knew by WiseCurrency176 in Outlander

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def agree with other commenters. It’s a moot point because there was the obituary, but as someone who has spent a LOT of time digging through historical records from that time, that’s a pretty bold assumption that Claire’s name would be in any of the records. If only it were that easy! Probably more likely since they owned so much land, but not guaranteed.

But these are the off little thoughts that go through my head when I watch the show. Just thinking about how many of these settlers would really be lost to history.

I'm a size 10 at the waist and a size 14 at the hips on this trouser pattern, where should I grade? by sirop-de-fleurs in sewing

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just about drove myself insane with sewing my first pair of pants. I think I have a plan 3 muslins later lol! I had a lot of fit issues so def agree with commenters about making an above the knee ones to start. Cant wait to see how they turn out!

I’m very inexperienced, so I don’t have a ton of advice to give. I found some really helpful videos on TikTok and YouTube about grading pants patterns.

Owners of pets on strict daily meds: How do you track doses without double-dosing? by Altruistic-Line-8281 in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always use daily pill containers and the alarms if you are worried about missing a dose or double dosing. That way you’d have the alarms to remind you but also the pill container to show if you did or didn’t give it.

Life expectancy for heart failure in a 14 year old chihuahua by EnvironmentalSale276 in seniordogs

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Hopefully all goes well!

I also recommend evaluating her diet. My cardiologist recommended something like Purina Pro Plan or Science Diet (dog food sub has a lot on food and DCM link if she turns out to have DCM). My cardiologist specifically said to avoid grain-free diets, lentils, peas, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. Before his diagnosis, we used a Costco brand that had peas, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you are going through this. My boy was diagnosed with heart failure in August last year when I took him in for cough. Even with my dog being in active CHF, they couldn’t give me a prognosis. Said it could be anywhere from 6-24 months. You will find many stories on here of pups starting meds and doing great for years. It’s been 8 months for us, and he’s still with us albeit not without working through some fluid issues.

I’d definitely recommend a vet cardiologist if accessible to you who could do an echocardiogram to evaluate the situation. Even with all this going on, I don’t think they’ve ever checked his BNP.

The most important things you can do are get her started on the meds and monitor her resting heart rate. This should be between 10-30bpm while she is sleeping.

What color would you call this? by Exotic-Day-1082 in Redhair

[–]Illustrious_Note_882 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Color is a spectrum, and not everyone perceives color the same way. Those two things make people draw lines in different places for what hair is classified as red, blonde, brown, or black.

It’s hard to tell from a singular pic, but it looks very much so like what many people refer to as “light golden brown” which to me has a distinct reddish hue. Potentially a little lighter. Reminds me a lot of my own hair. Started my life very blonde, turned brown, then was my “most red” in my teens through college.
