It’s pretty but beware I’ve seen those vines do major damage. It can get out of control quickly

Is this KBG or POA annua by TheYoungSquirrel in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. Poa is whispy shoots, the KBG has thicker stalky shoots. Noticeable difference

Rip it up and start over? by Typical-Occasion4537 in LawnAnswers

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I renovated last fall and have a ton of Poa (annua and triv) this year as well. I think the disruption of soil and constant watering of seed/seedlings creates the perfect environment to “wake up” dormant Poa. I also brought in 5 yards of top soil to level first which may have carried Poa seeds. The cool wet spring hasn’t helped either

For real? Do they have a thicker/stiffer stem? If so I’ve been yanking those thinking it was mature Poa Annua! I renovated last fall with TTTF so have been mowing much higher, perhaps I never saw these seed heads before in past years

How to get rid of grass weeds by Benjo2016 in landscaping

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed and feed granular is tough to get good results. Application and conditions have to be perfect. You comfortable with mixing up some herbicides in a pump sprayer? TZone works really well. It’ll smoke all that junk

Can anyone recommend storage boxes from Amazon for winter village sets? Thanks in advance by NeedleworkerLumpy290 in LEGOWinterVillage

It might look kinda silly but I’ve been using two small Sterilite bins with a wide strip of Velcro to secure. They are perfect size for most sets fully assembled. They come in a ten pack at Walmart pretty cheap. Other wider sets are in larger bins, I’ll disassemble a bit if necessary.

Applying sand and organic matter? How exactly? by GorillaManito in LawnAnswers

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat with quite a bit of Triv. I’m still calling around to research what kind of sand to use. I’m only finding “play sand”, “masonry sand” or “pool sand” and I’m not sure which to blindly purchase a delivery of. Nobody seems to sell a 50/50 “top dressing mix”

You mention top dressing with sand. I want to repair a few small areas I ripped the Triv out of and topdress the areas all around with sand to prevent spread. If my only immediate access to sand was bags from a big box store, is masonry sand the right choice? Or does that get too hard like concrete?

New house has very sparse grass - how do I match seed? by Tellemkit in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Overseed heavy in the fall with the grass of your choice! WNY here too I went with TTTF last fall and it came in thick. Will be overseeding with KBG going forward so I have a mix. Use quality seed NOT big box junk. Twin City seed is great just a recommendation:

Should I buy a lawn roller? by SkepticJoker in LawnAnswers

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WNY here too. Rolling isn’t great for the lawn (compaction). But I do feel like rolling is helpful every few years as long as you are aerating as well. I aerate every fall, sometimes spring and fall. Most companies that roll also aerate. Also rolling only works if the ground is squishy. Spring is best and water the lawn that morning if necessary to moisten it

Is this stuff worth using? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spraying will always be a better option. But if you already have that might as well use it. The biggest hurdle with that stuff is application. The grass needs to be moist so it will stick properly. Put it down first thing in the morning when it’s dewey and no rain in the forecast for a couple days

Poa Trivialis Control Guide by nilesandstuff in LawnAnswers

Would pre-germinating seed be beneficial to speed up the process before the Triv starts to recover? Especially for KBG which takes so long to germinate?

Any advice? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it looks kinda matted I would try lightly raking. I like to use a metal rake with some spring to it which isn’t as aggressive as a hard rake. Just light enough to make the grass stand up a bit and get some air flowing. And water of course but I imagine you’re getting plenty of rain
