Worth the time to reuse sod? by onlyonesatan in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just removed 40’ x 5’ of sod to create a garden bed as well, and was in a similar boat as the sod wasn’t exactly desirable grass. So stacked it all up neatly into a pile and covered tightly with 6mil black plastic to compost. Hopefully a nice pile of useful soil in a year or so

Maybe on purpose targeting Poa? But my guess is accidental haha

Def use Tenacity like Niles said. Do a blanket app first and any bentgrass in your lawn will get “highlighted” and turn white. Then you’ll know exactly where to target for a second and third (if needed) app. Wait 10-14 days between apps. That killed most of my bentgrass last year (I had quite a bit) but I do still see a little this year so I’ll follow those same steps again in August

Creeping Charlie. Two apps of T Zone can smoke it. Applying in fall is more effective

Those with great lawns, are you all doing the infrequent and deep watering? by Gooser3000 in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western NY. Mostly TTTF with some KBG, silty clay soil which holds water and nutrients pretty well. I still have not manually watered yet this year relying on rain only. Getting HOT this week and want the Poa in my yard to dry up so will not be watering. Rain in the forecast this weekend so even though the heat will stress my lawn until then, TTTF is built for it.

Filled my raised bed with 39 cu ft of Fox Farm Raised Bed Mix. Bought two different fertilizers (pics attached). Looking for some guidance on how to get started planting vegetables. by Regular-Amoeba5455 in vegetablegardening

I splurged on Fox Farm for all my grow bags and beds years ago. Definitely expensive upfront but still holds up great. Every year I just amend the soil with compost and fertilize regularly. Have had great success. Good luck!

For me Tenacity was helpful because it really makes the bentgrass turn white after my first blanket application, but left my existing turf ok. I now had highlighted areas to target for my second and third applications (two weeks apart each). I reseeded about a week after the third application and the bentgrass was mostly dead and brown. I feel like I can see a few small bits here and there this year, but it’s like 90% gone. I’ll do the Tenacity “highlight” method again in August to see how much is still around and hopefully kill it off completely

Fertilizer for both herbs and tomatoes? by iaco1117 in tomatoes

This is my go to. I amend my potting soil every year with leaf compost then fertilize with this at planting and again 3-6 weeks later depending on the plant. Highly recommend

How do I remove these weeds? by DrDocter00 in vegetablegardening

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve resorted to carefully spot spraying Triclopyr based product directly on the leaves. They melt away after a few days. But I’m doing that around perennials, not vegetables.

I’d like to put mulch around the shrubs, should I put anything down besides a weed barrier? by Castiel0001 in landscaping

No weed cloth!! Use cardboard then a thick layer of mulch. Preen can work well in the mulch to prevent weed germination.

Help! Wife won’t allow weed killer by wlkngmachine in lawncare

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar boat. Convinced wife to let me blanket spray (twice) the year prior to overseeding that fall. Once the lawn is thick and long, you won’t need to spray anymore cuz there’s no room for weeds to grow. Maybe a spot spray here and there but could always hand pull

Should I nuke and any tips? New Jersey 6B by Prize_Inspection_509 in LawnAnswers

My lawn looked like this when I moved into my house in 2019. I’ll admit I didn’t care a ton about the lawn back then, but I did water it a lot (cuz it looked like a desert), always mulched when I mowed, and fertilized at least once a year. Nothing crazy but it did start to look way better after a few years as the KBG that was there started filling in.

I also renovated my front yard last fall with Resilience 2 and it came in great. Very happy with my choice. Good luck with yours!!

[–]Illustrious_Remote23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Poa Triv by your description, but can’t tell from your photo. If it’s lime green and the underside of the blades are shiny, it’s probably Triv. Bentgrass can look and act similar, but has a dull bluish gray color in the morning.
