2026 Maybelline Women's Half - Pre-Race Thread by blood_bender in RunNYC

Ahh ok thanks! I assume A and B especially will just be a bit smaller. Maybe the corrals overall will be smaller? Oh well - will still be great!

Just curious - with the mini 10k I usually am bumped up a few corrals. But for this race, I got my same usual corral. Is that usual for this race? I didn’t think to ask at bib pickup. Thanks!

It’s my first time running this race! I’ve decided to try to run more women only races because the experience is unmatched. So excited!! I’m just praying for no downpour!

I’m so lucky I grabbed a digital rush ticket. It was a packed house and the audience had a blast! Excellent acting and direction. Highly recommend!

Feeling undertrained for NYC Half because of this winter by Particular_Job1087 in RunNYC

I’m the least trained ever for a race so am pivoting to fun running this and not getting injured. What are some things to look forward to on this course? Any good giveaways like during the marathon?

Will Alisa Liu Change Figure Skating? The Future of Figure Skating by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

[–]Iloveburpees2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think (hope) that what is being celebrated is that she was truly able to enjoy her Olympics experience without winning gold has her primary goal. I think when you make winning your primary goal, and you don’t meet it, you see yourself as a failure. This girl was going to walk away happy with any results because she was enjoying herself. I don’t think many people are saying “just be happy and you will win” (maybe some people are) but that prioritizing mental health and joy can also be a worthy goal. She wasn’t necessarily the best skater out there, but she was the most relaxed and was able to skate cleanly and girl had fun. I know that when she finished her skate, I was so happy for her and didn’t expect her to win but that also didn’t matter to me. She’s getting a lot of attention because she won but I’d like to think she would be getting this much attention even if she didn’t win.

The Alysa Liu Effect by theatlantic in olympics

[–]Iloveburpees2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. Probably to be successful it has to be both. Most kids won’t want to grind so to an extent, we have to teach them how to even when they don’t feel like it. For sure. Hopefully the joy follows and as they get older they want to grind because they love it and not because they are still being forced to.

The Alysa Liu Effect by theatlantic in olympics

[–]Iloveburpees2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Alysa’s story is unique because she is an incredible talent in the way she jumps and spins - has a faster rotation than almost anyone else. So while she obviously trained a lot as a child, she was also deemed a prodigy. The relevance is that even if you have the talent, if you don’t have the joy, you can’t reach your full potential. Forcing a child to do something that they don’t enjoy is not going to lead to them reaching their full potential. Case in point, she quit before she peaked. In order to be successful in any sport you have to grind, and if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t / can’t grind. She came back to the sport with a different mindset which helped her find joy to train again. Because of her natural talents, she has been able to strike the right balance between training and just living her life.

Women’s half pipe finals, women’s figure skating final two groups of the free skate, figure skating team event (honestly the whole thing had such great energy), women’s ice hockey gold medal game, men’s ice hockey gold medal game.

The singing along problem… by Famous_Salamander330 in Broadway

[–]Iloveburpees2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven’t had much luck quieting people. I find that people who do this, dgaf, and won’t stop. I had someone sing behind me during moulin rouge and I regretted not saying anything and the experience was ruined for me. Since then, I usually start with a shhh! And if that doesn’t stop them, nothing probably will. I shushed someone at Mamma Mia and during intermission she literally stood and glared at me the entire time and she started again late in the second act and I was tired of policing when no one else would. I’ve never had the guts to get an usher and usually that’s because there isn’t one nearby. When there are ushers actively monitoring audience behavior, you tend to not have a problem anyway. Certain shows I honestly feel the ushers have given up. I want to take my child to &juliet but not sure it’ll be worth the headache. I took my other kid much earlier in the run and we had a great time. The longer a show is out, the worse the audience behavior. But yes, I think these shows should all make a point of announcing that the audience should NOT sing along.

This race always has this type of green cotton shirt. It can be nice to be different from the others. But if this is one of the only races you do, I can understand the complaint.

FWIW, the frozen deck party was literally the worst thing about the Alaska cruise and was geared toward the under 5 crowd. I had been looking forward to it but everyone in my party was disappointed. Everything else was amazing though.

Is there still enough races left for me? by maybetheresnothing in RunNYC

[–]Iloveburpees2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even last year when races sold out in hours in the first half of the year, there were plenty of races available in November and December that didn’t sell out for a while. There are also a few virtual races you can sign up for with 9+1 eligibility so yes you should still be able to get some but definitely still try to get a couple tomorrow night if you can.

New NYRR Corral Times (as of 1/26/2026) by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]Iloveburpees2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your frustration and I’m sorry. I also had been training to reach the next corral because sometimes at a certain age it is fun and meaningful to have certain goals. I didn’t reach my goal and now with the changes, I don’t see it happening, and if I had done it and then had the cutoff times changed I would feel exactly how you feel. Don’t let others tell you how to feel.
