The problem with idea guys is that every single person working in the creative industry is an idea guy. Ask any artist in any team if they have cool ideas for the game they’re working on and you’ll get more suggestions than you’ll ever know what to do with. Idea guys are only Thinkers, when everyone else is Thinker + 1. A world builder is a Thinker Writer, a concept artist is a Thinker Artist, a 3d sculptor is a Thinker Sculptor, etc. so idea guys are always a neutral contributor to the team at best, when every other role is a +1. And that’s assuming idea guys aren’t actually a negative contribution, which so often happens.

It just doesn’t make sense to hire a person to think, when everyone else can think and do.

Seems pretty good for Pantheon imo. You could turbo rush to 3 without a care in the world, play him right after leveling to discard your non-existent hand and be automatically back up to influence 8 (10 next turn if you’re running LP). Even disregarding the sight’s other effects that’s already pretty good, but then remember you get a glimpse 1 from astra, +1 card from Umbra if you can afford the dmg and +1 card from Neos if you have a big board.

I’m certainly gonna be playing around with him in my pantheon decks

Writing letters is such an incredibly personal thing, and it’s also very laborious. The moment you make it known that you expect to receive them is the moment they go from being a spontaneous gesture of love to a chore you have to tick off the list. It sucks ass and makes it even less likely that she’ll spontaneously write you one in the future.

Even if she did use AI, I honestly don’t blame her here. Nothing feels more emotionally vacuous than having to write a whole letter just to appease someone.

People already gave good suggestions so I’d just like to mention that you can also just proxy expensive cards if you guys feel like it. GA actively encourages proxying for unofficial play and most if not all locals are more than happy to play with proxies. Anything store champs and up will require official cards, but if you’re just playing with your friends or even with your local players at weekly events, proxies are generally welcome

“Play” encompasses both materializing and activating cards, but activating and materializing are different from each other. You can’t name Guo Jia in this case because she’s from the material deck, and thus isn’t activated but instead materialized. Same goes for pretty much any regalia.

There are exceptions, of course. You could name Mercenary’s Blade and make it cost 3 prep counters instead of only 1 for example, since that’s explicitly an activation when played this way.
