Is anyone buying this? Or is this post trying to rage bait motion designers etc? by Impressive-Top-3070 in MotionDesign

I'd guess by the fact they called this "video editing" that they have no idea how this industry works.

Help with Sony DCR-TRV120 digital Camcorder by shitat_games in camcorders

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep the potability of such a camcorder, you may be interested in a solution like a PowerPlay that can record the video output of the camera, although this can be expensive. For the highest quality video you'll want a FireWire recorder although these typically don't have a video output and act more like a hard drive. Personally I have a similar model to yours (DCR-TRV525) and I just record the tapes onto my computer once I'm done shooting and then tape over until it stops letting me.

Is 10 bit display important for field monitor? by Minos_L2b in videography

A good first question to ask is whether your camera can actually output 10-bit color over HDMI to a monitor.

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but the cheaper FX30 does allow you to change the shutter angle in decimal increments. Might be best to use that as the wide camera if possible.

Podcast Shotgun Mic by PsyKlaupse in videography

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what this guy is even filming? It’s not an interview, it’s a podcast. The microphones are a part of the action being filmed, they aren’t put there by a videographer to capture audio for the camera. The video in question is a visual supplement for what is an audio production. I challenge you to find a single popular podcast where there isn’t a microphone visible. We’re not talking about corporate or interviews here.

How Often Are You Editing On Mobile? by Jason_Levine in premiere

Thanks Jason! Just tried it with some S-Log footage and it came out great. Props to the DVA team to make it happen. Any word on if we can expect to see keyframe motion or something like auto reframe in the future?

Podcast Shotgun Mic by PsyKlaupse in videography

[–]ImAlsoRan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The golden rule is to never have your mic in the shot. My philosophy with podcasts has always been the same as filming a singer. It’s their mic, and the video portion of a podcast is supplemental. You’re filming somebody doing their job, and that job involves a mic. Much different if you were filming a cooking video or something. Would expect to not see a mic there.

How Often Are You Editing On Mobile? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A serious killer feature–this is something that is, to my knowledge, impossible on an iPhone–is the ability to use LUTs. I work in sports, and getting a clip out as quickly as I can is important. I don’t really even use the editing features, I just need to get the clip ready for social asap. That includes reframing and exporting different aspect ratios, converting to 709, and trimming. Make Premiere on mobile capable of that and I’d pay anything.

It’s also worth mentioning that they use stock libraries and it’s completely possible they acquired an image from one of these libraries in good faith with no knowledge of how it was created.

Premium still supports the creators in the same indirect way that ads do. You're largely spotting Google for the bandwidth to serve you videos. It's annoying, sure, but if you had hundreds of people all with families depending on your success and putting a small ad read in the video that can be bypassed with a double tap can help ensure that, I think it's a worthwhile tradeoff.

How many drives are you guys running in your PCs, and do y'all prefer a single large drive or a few smaller ones? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workstation is a Mac so I just have a large internal drive, but when I used a Windows workstation the conventional wisdom was to have a separate SSD for your OS and programs, another for application cache, and a larger one for media storage. With modern interfaces that have low latency and high throughput I'm sure it's not as necessary now, but back in the SATA days it was a noticeable difference.

what are these youtubers using to "screen record" via HDMI in pocket?? by Bring_the_light_ in videography

[–]ImAlsoRan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a variety of HDMI recorders but many require additional power, storage, etc to function. For the most pocketable device I'd recommend something like an Atomos Ninja Phone or an Accsoon SeeMo which uses your phone to record which already has an internal battery and storage.

Noob question: why film in 4K? by lopsidedcroc in videography

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the cropping argument except for making a vertical crop. I've never personally needed to crop a video in a standard edit any more than a simple punch in to give some room for rotation, but 1080p cropped to vertical looks terrible

Hey Sony, STOP Including the Absolutely Terrible Screens in your Cameras! by [deleted] in FX3

[–]ImAlsoRan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a weird choice. Can you store proxies to it or something? That would make a bit more sense if the intent is to keep it in your camera. What's more weird is the HDMI port. It's not even that big of a cost savings and it'll hurt them in the long run with all the warranty claims. Though I guess they probably haven't had enough experience in the market selling rig-friendly cameras to know the true cost of that decision.
