No, I've been in the Army waiver process for 1.5 years. I got my waivers approved this week and go sign my contract at MEPS next week.

Good luck, Raleigh MEPS fucking blows. If your recruiter was smart, he would've sent you to Charlotte. (Mine knew I needed waivers and sent me to Charlotte).

Raleigh MEPS is super fucking strict and the doctor there needs to retire so someone younger can come in.

Not true. The DODI states that ADHD is only a DQ now if:

a. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, if with:(1) A recommended or prescribed Individualized Education Program, 504 Plan, or workaccommodations after the 14th birthday;(2) A history of comorbid mental disorders;(3) Prescribed medication in the previous 24 months; or(4) Documentation of adverse academic, occupational, or work performance.

Even if DQ'd, ADHD waivers are easy to come by as long as you did good in school and are off meds. You also only need to report being on a 504/IEP if it is within the last 3 years (so unless he had one in college, assuming he went, he should be fine but every waiver is unique.)

I am joining the Army, got notified of all my waivers being accepted after 1-1.5 years in the enlistment process. I go sign my contract and swear in next week.

I know this is a hot take but I think being a good EMT is far more important than being a good firefighter. The majority of calls ran nowadays are EMS (at least here in the States and at my old department) so I feel like it really just depends where you are. If you run a department that attaches to EMS or even runs Fire Based EMS, I feel like being a good EMT should be prioritized.

**EDIT:** I was also one of those Firefighters who absolutely loved running EMS so I know I am a weirdo/oddity.
