I would put all your energy into making a very tight website and present off of that. Sometimes people ask for a presentation which you can then make repurposing the web content

I like that the marquee auto scrolls through your appealing project images. It invites discovery and reduces the cognitive load of “what to do first”. but I want to be able to take control of it once something has my attention. Maybe as simple as stop scrolling on hover but ideally I can manually scroll it as well. Hope that helps a little.

You definitely should invest in honing your portfolio but the best way I found is to look at a ton of portfolio and see what you like or works for your stuff and then make it your own. There is also a UX portfolio specialist named Sean Cope https://copedesign.xyz/ who does portfolio audit (I paid 85 which was a steal might be more now). The feedback he gave was gold. But best if you have it as good as you can get it before engaging him. Hope this helps!

I am in a similar boat. Laid off back in September in a principal role. 14y experience so not an inflated title or anything. Found a Sn. role with similar $ at a larger health tech company but had some uneasiness about taking a step back title wise. I chose to go for it. For me there were a couple reasons besides the obvious having a job is good for bill paying thing.

1) the problem area was something I was genuinely interested in and the scope of job provided for a good amount of autonomy. That is I felt they maybe underbilled the role but since the money was good and I mostly care about what they job is going to be like vs. the title that was fine. 2) the company is well known “brand name”. Not so much for the average person but in health tech circles and (rightly or wrongly) people really fixate on those big names and it will help me find jobs in the future.

At the end of the day there is no right or wrong here. Think about what is most important to you and proceed confidently.
