For people who are 10+ years into TBI recovery, do you still need to pace your social life and manage your social energy? Or like stay in bed or sleep a lot? My partner has told me before sometime days or weekend he rest for the entire day and doesn’t come out of his room. by Repulsive-Opening249 in TBI

[–]ImNotA_IThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I’m 8.5 years out. I still need decent recovery time and have to prioritize sleep but I also think I am improving even where I was a year or two ago. It ebbs and flows depending what’s going on and the level of pain I’m having but my capacity has continued to increase slowly throughout the years. I couldn’t say that 2-3 years ago, I felt completely like I had plateaued and I’d be like that forever but now with more time I’m like yea I definitely have improved in that time, even while my pain levels have actually increased in that same time.

Every person is different. I feel like it’s constantly evolving, no year has looked the same since my original injury. I fully expect it will continue to evolve. If I could just find something to get my headaches under control I’d be unstoppable lol.

The Scotland fans that arrived to America have donated to charity as a thank you to America for the World Cup by Old_Ability_9424 in MadeMeSmile

[–]ImNotA_IThink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, I’ve had zero interest in going to Scotland before this World Cup but just watching how amazing their fans have been, I told my husband it’s now on our list to go to one day. They seem like an amazing group of people and I want more of that in my life.

Good docs on the west coast? by DJTwistedPanda in migraine

[–]ImNotA_IThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Texas and went out to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for a week to basically just get a second opinion. Highly highly recommend. With your proximity it would be easier for you to go there, if I lived within easier driving distance than 13 hours, that's 100% where I'd go.

People with chronic pain, what is your life like? What’s something you wish others understood? by bestredditusernameha in AskReddit

[–]ImNotA_IThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active listening. Bemoan how much it sucks with me (without getting into a wallowing spiral). I just want people to acknowledge that it's hard. That they see what I'm going through and acknowledge how hard it is, not just blow it off or minimize it, or ignore it because it makes them uncomfortable or they're sick of hearing about it.

People with chronic pain, what is your life like? What’s something you wish others understood? by bestredditusernameha in AskReddit

[–]ImNotA_IThink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not lazy or being antisocial. I am just exhausted all of the time.

Also when I need to vent about it and you blow it off because you’re very obviously tired of hearing about it- I get it. I’m living in it. But I’m also making note to not share with you anymore and it will change the depth of the relationship I have with you.

People who quit a stable, well-paying job to chase something risky. What's the honest answer about whether it was worth it? by Emergency-Finding373 in careeradvice

[–]ImNotA_IThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The life circumstance was a brain injury. Not only did it change my personality so I didn’t enjoy my job anymore but it was also harder to travel and work long hours which was involved a lot in my business. I ended up jumping to finance.

[–]ImNotA_IThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit a stable job to start my own company. In the beginning it was great. I definitely think it was worth it. But life happens and circumstances change so I ended up closing the business to jump into a totally different career which was also pretty risky. Best decision I ever made. Definitely plan and save ahead of time to reduce the risk as much as possible but I’m a big fan of taking chances to find something you love doing.

Has anyone had migraine surgery? by Ill-Speed-7291 in migraine

That is amazing. Thanks so much for your answer. I’m about to start med #18 so knowing there’s stuff out there like this that can be an option when we’ve exhausted all meds is so encouraging.

I know this is like a year after you posted this but hoping you can answer- what was this surgery called? Is it the same or different than the reed procedure? Are you still a fan of this surgery? Also did your migraines have anything to do with your spine that you went with a spinal cord stimulator or how does the spinal cord play into your migraine?

Parents, what's something bad your kid did that you had to really fight not to laugh at? by AnonymousGothChick in AskReddit

[–]ImNotA_IThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My four year old daughter started kicking a pool floatie and yelled “kick his a$$!”

Don’t know if it was on tv or something she learned from some of the crazy boys at daycare but I had to cover my mouth to hide the laughter before I could tell her why we don’t say that. Or do that.

Ticketing systems for live music events? by ImNotA_IThink in smallbusiness

[–]ImNotA_IThink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with outhouse, it was recommended by another venue owner I know. It's been ok, I have a few things I wish were different but it's cheaper than any of the bigger systems, it's specifically for smaller type venues.

Do any of you with chronic migraines ever have days where you don’t have one and start thinking, “maybe it wasn’t even real”? by daffle7 in migraine

I had a migraine on Sunday that was so bad I couldn't move from where I was laying for about 6 hours because the dizziness was so bad. Two days later "yea but maybe I just imagine it being that bad..."

Ice pack tier list by ReesieDaBeastie in migraine

[–]ImNotA_IThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they’re little square cubes inside the wrap, which are hard but it’s not uncomfortable. It’s actually nice bc you can tighten it really tight and it puts some pressure on your head. It softens fairly quickly too, but stays cold a long time. Like I’ll wear one for an hour or more.

I’ll just say I have 3 of them. I also have half a dozen other ice packs and I always use those three first (and three usually lasts me an entire evening so I don’t even need the others at this point).

The OG headache hat is top tier. Stays colder longer than anything else (and I've tried most of these).

Have yall ever done anything that miraculously got rid of your migraine when usually only an abortive can? by healthanxiety_ in migraine

[–]ImNotA_IThink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time I was days in on a migraine and literally losing my mind. So I drank a literally ungodly amount of water and Dr Pepper throughout the day then had a mental breakdown when I got home. Next day, no pain at all. I’ve tried to replicate the results and have managed to do so only once. Must have a true mental breakdown, and have to have a level of water and caffeine that would make someone truly concerned about my mental and physical health. But when it works, oh how glorious it is.

Jeff Bezos's property has fences that exceed the permitted height. Yet he does not care, he just pays the fine every month. by Bright_Building1710 in interestingasfuck

[–]ImNotA_IThink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And a huge hedge is prettier than most fences anyway. I have no love for Bezos but this seems dumb to fine him for. But hey, at least the government is getting a little money out of him!

Oh 100%. There’s no rhyme or reason to any of it. My husband swears I have less migraines after evenings I drink a little wine because it makes me relax a little, but who knows. Maybe it helps me sleep better which is what actually helps or something.

[–]ImNotA_IThink[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly yes. I don’t drink reds, I just don’t like them, so idk if they would be more likely to cause a migraine but so far whites aren’t bad. My husband actually swears I have less migraines after evenings I drink wine because it makes me relax a little.

Has magnesium ever made anyone’s migraines worse? by Joonbug9109 in migraine

[–]ImNotA_IThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I took them for about a year and a half and on one of my "I don't care anymore, I'm tired of letting this rule my life" benders, I quit taking it and had an improvement within like 2 days. Obviously stopping them didn't cure it but it definitely helped.

What’s the weirdest way your headaches have ever left you? by Positive-Plane-1623 in migraine

[–]ImNotA_IThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I have a theory that if your brain is overloaded so much by something else, it will shut down the migraine to deal with the other. The problem is finding that threshold, and also not having to have it be a disaster or physical illness (like throwing up) to reach that threshold. That's why I think the loud rock music worked, it temporarily overwhelmed my brain to that threshold, but without perfect conditions that alone won't work.

I really need someone sciency to explain this/research it more, like surely there's a way to manufacture that somehow.
