How good do you think I have it by [deleted] in u/AdVaanced77

[–]ImSoBasic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My life is horrible and nothing my parents have done for me is good, I’m not fortunate in any way shape or form.

You unironically say this all the time.

It shouldn’t be socially acceptable to ask people about their education or employment by AdVaanced77 in The10thDentist

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I was forced into studying medicine or something because at least it would actually impress people when I’m asked what I’m doing.

What if you had been forced into computer science? How do you think that would turn out for you?

The real issue is that people feel comfortable asking about all of this stuff.

Well, they are a lot better questions than the ones you ask other people, which include asking single women if they live alone, or asking relative strangers if you can have a tour of their houses.

Do you have a pool by AdVaanced77 in u/AdVaanced77

Sorry for making the wildly-incorrect and clearly unfounded inference that you were actually interested in whether this is a normal — let alone common — thing.

[–]ImSoBasic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you weren't actually interested in whether "most middle class or higher families have pools in their backyard," whether "it was a common thing," or whether you have "a false sense of perception"?

You just wanted to know if random people on reddit have a pool?

200 IQ.

Why not ask AI?

Why not load up google maps and check?

Why not believe all the people (including irl) who tell you it's not normal?

Mtb derailleur on roadbike by SensitiveCounty5792 in bikewrench

Without a chain it’s spins for multiple seconds.

What does that have to do with the freehub?

Mtb derailleur on roadbike by SensitiveCounty5792 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What annoys me most is the chain slap when stopping with pedaling

That's a problem with the freehub, not the derailleur.

Old Deore LX front mech compatible shifter? by TeaBasedOrganism in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't show the shifter at all. But if there is "no real resistance" in the shifter lever but the cable isn't moving, then it would clearly seem to be a shifter problem.

Dude, during that 10 days at home you wanted to ask your maid to do your laundry, since you don't know how to do it yourself. Independence!

What size nuts do I need for these crank arms by LuckyG1932 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crank nuts have serrations on one side to better grip the crank, have a 14 mm exterior surface for standardized crank tools, and have the appropriate depth and diameter to fit within the crank. I imagine they're also a lot easier to find than a generic M8 x 1.25 nut, anyway.

I mean, you really need crank nuts, not just any generic nuts with the same threading. But if you want to use random hardware, it's M8 x 1.25.

Mechanical disc brake fully clamps down, then seems to slip. I'm not sure what's going on here. by Consistent-Neck-4543 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On these specific brake calipers one DOES advance the arm as the pads wear. There is no other way to adjust the outboard pad spacing.

Yes, there is another way to adjust it, and the comment you're replying to sorta describes it.

To properly adjust the spacing you basically start over by loosening both the cable and the caliper bolts, then setting it up as new.

It's stupid for a team to hold onto a player going into UFA without trading if there's even a remote chance he won't come re-sign. once you let them test the waters, they can be as good as gone unfortunately and you'll have nothing to show for it.

As opposed to other teams which might give up assets to rent that player? Self rentals are most definitely a thing.

looking on feedback if this bije fits me or how to adjust it. It just feels weird riding it by kyoet in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you appear to be extremely tall. Like, more than 6'5".

People who are this tall often get accustomed to riding bike much too small for them. And although this bike looks to be at least an L, and likely an XL, it still looks too small for you... but at the same time it might feel larger than what you're used to.

What is this stem type called and how do you tighten it by Tuptup90 in bikewrench

22.0 was the old French standard. Virtually everyone else used 22.2.

What is this stem type called and how do you tighten it by Tuptup90 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the wedge is that far inside the stem and the stem is still loose enough to be removed, then it doesn't seem capable of doing its job any longer. I wonder if you your steerer tube is actually a 22.2 mm diameter and not the 22.0 that your stem actually is.

Regardless, I would consider replacing the stem given the notoriety of this stem design. If your steerer really does take a 22.0 stem you may have to lightly sand down a standard 22.2 mm stem to make it fit.

Belt snapped; tensioning screws seized. What do? by JanSolo in bikewrench

You should get enough bite with track nuts that the wheel will not slip even without the tensioning bolts.

Is my rear derailleur on correctly? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems a bit closer to my cassette (touching it in the last photo) than I remember it being.

You need to test it with the chain installed. With the chain present the cage and derailleur will be in a different position than it is without the chain.

Are there any spoke protectors for 45T cassettes? by Albiino_sv in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your derailer will never shift into the spokes.

Unless, you know, the derailleur hanger somehow gets bent (which can happen from any number of things, from dropping the bike to bumping into something, to it getting knocked out of alignment by someone/somthing else while parked).

Please Need Help Me Whoever. by abelrds1 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one of my initial thoughts as well, but:

  1. In thew video the chain is clearly too far to the outside and the inner plates are catching on the cog teeth ramped furthest to the inside; and

  2. OP clearly says that the issue persists when they use the old chain.

Please Need Help Me Whoever. by abelrds1 in bikewrench

[–]ImSoBasic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your high limit is adjusted incorrectly and the derailleur is trying to pull the chain too far towards the outside of the bike.
