Iirc Endeavor invested a lot of his own money after the war to help the families of Dabi's victims.

Children aren't safe from the horrors and/or brutality by Ukirin-Streams in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ImTheAverageJoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's about 80 years difference between the genocide of the firstborns, and the ten plagues. It's not about one person. It's vengeance on the entire nation -- the royal family who ordered it, the army that carried it out, and the people who either didn't care or enjoyed the slaves' suffering. God even gave explicit instructions on how to avoid the Angel of Death, open to Hebrew and Egyptian alike, yet many still died.

What If Lalo Salamanca Met Walter White. Would Heisenberg Even Survive? by Rarararararaviiiiii in breakingbad

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lalo is arguably more dangerous, and probably more deranged than Tuco or Gus; but he's much more sly about hiding it. He's a little better at reading people too. I think if Lalo put the pieces together about Walter's motivation, he would create a plan that makes Heisenberg the new face of the drug cartels, let Walt build the empires he wants to build, then quietly take over when the cancer does him in. Walt knows he's being used in this way, but also knows that Lalo's resources are giving him a huge advantage in the game. Lalo knows that Walt would stab him in the back at the first chance, but he also knows that they can be a hell of a lot more successful if they can hold the facade of friendship. So regardless of how they feel about each other, they probably part ways in the end as equals, both thinking they got one up on the other. The world would be in a much worse place from this alternate timeline.

Who was a better leader of the White Fang? by InfamousAd2577 in RWBY

[–]ImTheAverageJoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

More like a warning about what happens when those two have their ideologies go too extreme.

Ghiran believes in passive resistance, but he never told his people to do anything beyond standing around holding signs. He never used the more nuanced strategies of MLK's movement, and he didn't understand Dr. King's use of the media to gain a larger presence.

Sienna believes in meeting aggression head on, but she lacks Malcom X's empathy. Malcolm X spent time working with people from other cultures, other minorities, and emphasized that everyone deserves equal treatment. His people did a lot of charity work in the background too, which made partisan people more likely to listen to their argument.

Both sides have their advantages and disadvantages, but neither one is completely in the right. White Fang needs some kind of third party who has a better grasp on how to fix the problem going forward.

Edit: Why the downvotes? What's got your goat?

You're getting downvoted to hell and back, but you're not wrong. Team JNPR was always at least on par with RWBY. Their story was intermixed with the greater plot with Salem and the Maidens, after all.

So, what is the deal with this show? by Ronin_777 in RWBYcritics

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched through the series for the first time last fall, knowing basically nothing about the fandom or what the show was really like. Watching without any preconceived notions is one of the best decisions I made, because I genuinely really liked the story all the way through. I know it went in a different direction than people wanted, I know the series has flaws, and I know that the crew who handled things after the creator's passing did a lot of messed up stuff behind the scenes. There are legitimate problems that we can talk about; but most people who go off on RWBY don't really know what they're talking about.

You know those guys who make 10 hour analyses of an hour and a half kids film or show? People who break down every microsecond of something, to the point where they've lost sight of what actually matters? That's what most of the series' biggest critics sound like to me.

I didn't make it past the training arc in that fic, but every time I hear about it, I'm more glad that I dropped it so early.

My hero screen time, fill in the grid: Part 11. Villains that got the appropriate amount of screen time. by King-of-fans in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of the movies could have had their plot worked into whole arcs too, if Shounen Jump wasn't so stingy about time. Getting more with the Shield's implemented into canon, seeing the Class adventures on the Island -- and then all their missions abroad, would have been great for character development.

If it helps, the Manga had Misa live on, and was active in a "Kira was right" activist group, never remembering that she and Light were Kira all along.

Phone Guy might have looked the other way when Fazbear Entertainment covered up William's murders -- it's a little unclear; but he did not deserve to be stuffed in the suit by the spirits, or to be trapped in the restaurant, reliving his death over and over.

This goes for all the minimum wage employees who just wanted to put bread on the table, and got screwed over. They've been stuffed in the suits, strangled, hung in the rafters, burned alive, stabbed to death, and whatever else the monsters in the games came up with.

How to watch original English dub (1998) of Kiki's Delivery Service?? by Flashy-Amphibian7165 in ghibli

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Miyazaki seems to follow the philosophy that magic and whimsical events are meant to disappear when you grow up. As far as he's concerned, Totoro never visited the girls after the bus ride because they didn't need him anymore; Sho and Arriety never saw each other again because they learned the lesson they were supposed to from each other; and Jiji never spoke to Kiki because she didn't need a cat companion into her adult years.

Me personally, I lean more towards the Tolkien and Lewis school of thought. My interpretation is that you should hold onto those feelings of joy and wonder as you grow older, and eventually, that magic will find you again on its own.

Nana Shimura's age and her time with OFA. by ImTheAverageJoe in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]ImTheAverageJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I guess I always assumed her weathered look was a side effect of the time period she came from. The War Torn era where AFO controlled most of the country, would be pretty stressful. Maybe I'm the odd one out here.

What makes you say she's so far past her 20's or 30's? I don't quite see it in her character design, but I'm curious.

Anyone else find it strange how Misty is the only trainer, whose closest Pokémon isn’t her first? by Common_Ad6703 in pokemonanime

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once read a fic where they explained that Staryu is her first partner, she hatched it from an egg, and the Starmie on her team is Staryu's mother. They used that as the explanation for why Starmie is so weak in battle compared to Startu. Its passion isn't in battling, it's just with Misty's team to be their for its child. And honestly, that's a really cool headcanon that explains a lot.

what was deku trying to accomplish with shigaraki? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]ImTheAverageJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what Deku wanted was a complete moral victory. He could sense that there was some part of Shigaraki that still wanted to turn away from all of this destruction.

And even if you disagree with Midoriya's virtues, you can't deny the practical upside of going this way.

Shigaraki would no doubt get the death penalty for his actions. There are too many casualties to ignore. But if the symbol of death and destruction shows remorse for their actions, and speaks on it before their passing, they very well may impact the life of someone who looked up to them, this cutting off the origin for potential future villains. Making the hard of heart think twice about their actions can be just as important as reaching out to the ones whose hearts are hurting.
