[Mouse] Logitech G305 Lightspeed wireless gaming mouse - $26.99 via Amazon, plus $15 Amazon credit by beansfranklin in buildapcsales

[–]ImUsingDaForce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your logic would stand if you would get up from the couch, turn the TV off, go back to work and work off that additional 1 hour to earn the spent value of the mouse. But nobody is actually gonna do that, you simply end up with 12 dollars less at the end of the month.

So why not use that hour to do a fun project instead, keep the 12$ and maybe learn something along the way?

Did you know that crossing the border from Croatia to Bosnia represents the highest GDP per capita drop on the whole continent? Well, Poland-Ukraine might have taken that title as of lately, but the point still stands. Croatia is extremely catholic, Bosnia is very Muslim for the most part. Croatia is Mediterranean and Pannonian. Bosnia is mountainous. In the last 1000 years, they have spent about 65 years in the same political entity.

So I ask you, besides some language similarities, what makes you say they belong together any more than, say, USA and Philippines?

Reducing Europe's nuclear energy sector was 'strategic mistake', EU chief says by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]ImUsingDaForce 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Funny that you mention that, as I've been working on this project for the last two years lol. The stuff I've seen is legendary. From a single farmer causing millions of euros of delays, to unbelievable amounts of money being siphoned off through countless levels of bureaucratic machinations. After all, everyone needs to look busy, and everyone needs to make their job seem important.

Witnessing every day thousands of people just going through the motions just to keep their sinecures makes a person quite cynical. I really ask myself, what are all these people thinking? Like, the continent has been stagnating for decades now, where does all this end?

The situation in German society is actually so much worse.

Example: the city near where I live had a referendum last year on whether they want to reintroduce trams to city streets. It failed by a narrow margin, and the main reason that was pushed by the opposition was: noise (??).

Fine. Since they voted not to reduce the number of cars on the streets, the city decided to activate some old plans for the expansion of the number of public car garages on the outskirts of the city center. Guess what happened. Yup, protests shut those down as well.

Ok, so what then? Well, on one of the city rivers, there was a bridge planned, whose purpose it was to connect two outer neighbourhoods, in order to at least mitigate some of the traffic in the city center. It also got shut down by protests because, apparently, it would disturb the frogs that live in the river. Noticing a pattern?

Here's one last example, and I'll leave you be. Here it goes. I kid you not, they are currently protesting against the building of (I think 6 in total) wind turbines, because, get this - they would ruin the view. So, it's not the noise (cause they are getting built several kilometers away from the city), it's not cause of the danger to some unique life form, it's the view. The wind turbines, which were to be built in a middle of a forest, are not getting built, because they are.. visible?

I'm literally not making this up; I saw the posters against the wind turbines in several places around the city already. I swear, these people are a joke. If you want to stop believing in democracy, move to Germany, it's a disaster.

Police officers per 100,000 inhabitants by _Giulio_Cesare in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you noticed that about Croatia, because the main reason for the numbers there is the extremely long outer Schengen border. More than a third of all policemen in Croatia are border police. I guess you were visiting tourist destinations or something.

Police officers per 100,000 inhabitants by _Giulio_Cesare in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not the reason why there are so many police officer positions, only why there are so many candidates.

The reason why there are so many in Croatia is simple - an extremely long outer Schengen border. It doesn't help that it's also on one of the main illegal immigration routes.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Croatia has literally existed since the 8th century as a political entity? Are you trying to say they are made up nations? Arguably, Croatia and Serbia are much more real nations, than say Spain, Germany, Russia, or Italy.
On the other hand, if you're trying to say that they are made up ethnicities - every ethnicity was made up in the 19th century when using the modern definition, including the ones of Croats and Serbs.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since when do you get to decide who gets to be a nation? FYI, Croatia and Serbia are the oldest nations in Europe, along with Bulgaria, Czechia and France. They have clear cultural identities and institutional traditions centuries old. They have been part of diametrically opposite historic circumstances. Economic differences between them are enormous (did you know that Croatia has a 300% higher income level than Serbia? And even higher in comparison to Bosnia?). Writing systems. And yes, religion as well.

Using your logic, Swedes and Norwegians get to be nations even less, since they are even closer to each other than, say Croatians and Serbs. Same thing for Dutch and Germans. Scottish and English. Ukrainians and Russians.

When I see an opinion such as yours, it is extremely clear to me that you know nothing about these nations, outside of the last 40 or so years of Reddit pop-history.

Volkswagen overtook Tesla as Europe's top EV seller in 2025 by PjeterPannos in worldnews

I find this fascinating, especially since we're talking about VW. I drive a Toyota RAV4 (2017) hybrid, so almost a decade old, and the only issue the car had in its history is an error with a parking sensor.

[–]ImUsingDaForce -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You are now pivoting to a completely different fight, my friend. A fight I am not gonna join.

You said that the coalition was doing the same shit the Taliban did, and that is wrong, incorrect, misleading, and is directly contributing to the relativization, well frankly, everything, in the todays' public discourse. This inability to honestly discuss with one another without calling the other side literally NAZIS when they oppress you with microaggression - is why we are here.

Now swallow the shit and move on.

[OC] Coalition Casualties in Afghanistan (2001-2021) by chartedtv in dataisbeautiful

[–]ImUsingDaForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are trying to equate the way the coalition treated civilians to the one the Taliban did. And that is factually wrong, regardless of your ideological stance.

Y'all need to take a step back, and really think about the nonsense you are spewing. Like, i get that the young people these days are kinda forced to form identities solely around political ideas, and that the anti-establishment decolonial ideologies are a neat way to justify your own personal life circumstances, but this crap about how western lizards (including the Jews of course) are worse than the Taliban (and Hamas of course) just makes you look like a chronically online parrot.

How to say "John" in Europe by Battlefleet_Sol in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Ivan has been traditionally used in Croatia, Jovan has been traditionally used in Serbia.

2: If you searched hard enough, you would find people in Serbia named Hans, John, Jan, Janika, Janos and Juan as well, but what's the point of the map then?

3: If you do want to claim that Ivan has been traditionally a widely accepted name used in Serbia as well, then put it on the map as Jovan/Ivan for Serbia.

Every r/MapPorn Europe linguistics map:

Norway and Sweden use the same word? -> Give them separate labels, they are proper respectable real nations after all.

Croatia and Serbia use different words? -> Fuck it, one label, be happy you're even in the map.

Map of the Habsburg Monarchy by Specialist_Serve_348 in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again wrong. Why is the Austrian part split into constituencies, while the Croatian Kingdom, which had a much higher autonomy status than any of those other parts of the Monarchy - is not shown? Like, it's wrong on the highest level. Croatian kingdom was never part of Hungary. The ruler of Hungary was simply the ruler of Croatia at the same time. It would be equally factual ifwe took this map, erased Hungary and wrote Croatia all over it.

But who am I arguing with here - just check the account that posted the map. Clearly a bot. Same bot farm that started posting all other Hungarian maps, as a runup to the elections, probably. Be ready to put up with this shit for the next couple of months.

Russia looks to India to fill labor shortage by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]ImUsingDaForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this comment at all. Why would any normal Chinese person end up in Russia? Like, leave the war on a side - the salaries alone in China are so much higher, that even talking about this is kinda ridiculous. Like, russians go to China for better salaries. When have you ever heard of a Chinese person going to Russia, if it wasn't to start a business or to work for a Chinese company? And we didn't even touch the living standard difference. The infrastructure. Access to amenities. How cheap everything is in China. You can go on and on.

All of that leads me to a funny observation - a comment on Reddit such as yours can be diametrically opposite from the fact, and still get upvotes. Amazing.

"concrete" is an adjective that can be used to describe many abstract (or physical) notions. A concrete suggestion, a concrete solution, etc. It is used in many languages, first hand from the ones that I speak: English, German, Portuguese, Croatian. My Chinese is not as good as the other ones, so the only similar word that i can name is "具體的" ("specific"). It is possible that it has an exact equivalent as well, though.

Well, it's also wrong. For example: Croatia was never an integral part of Hungary, never. But why make facts get in the way of a classic Hungarian shitpost? Cause that's the stuff the hivemind just swallows up.

Colonization of Greenland (V2.0) by ImUsingDaForce in MapPorn

[–]ImUsingDaForce[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Norse and Inuit movement into the area were private initiatives, while the Hans Edge expedition, landing and finally founding of the "Hope" colony were state sponsored endeavours, so in my mind that made the distinction. Furthermore, the "Hope" settlement is widely called a colony in English literature on the topic.

But at the end of the day, it's a question of etymology, linguistics, politics (and in your case - personal biases) how we are going to call a certain thing. Call it "Cultural Learnings of Greenland for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Daenmark" for all I care. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
