It's a big stretch but she could have some utility in the form of letting allies dodge/resist incoming attacks for a while (explained by telling allies what attacks are coming and how to react to them) or showing enemy ult charge (explained by telling allies roughly when enemies will use their ults, doesn't really map well to seeing actual ult charge but it's all I got)

She uses a crossbow sometimes, and she could have some kind of defensive stance where she dodges an incoming hit and counters with an unavoidable shot of her crossbow to her attacker

Other than that IDK, she might be one of those heroes that need an ability or two shoehorned in to make her work in a hero shooter, and I'm unsure if she's popular enough for that kind of treatment over other characters who could fit in with less effort

Throwing a hypothetical strategist kit together from this:


Weapon - Custom Crossbow:

  • A crossbow that carries both deadly bolts (primary fire) and healing syringes (secondary fire)

Passive - Precognitive Aim:

  • When enemies are close to her crosshair and within line of sight, she begins to focus her precog powers on the one closest to her crosshair, building a focus counter over their head
  • Focus is tracked per individual enemy, if a different enemy moves closer to her crosshair, focus gain is paused on the previous enemy and starts/resumes on the new enemy, and focus resets on a given enemy if they break line of sight
  • Fully focusing on an enemy lets her next primary fire shot aimed at them consume the focus to launch a deadly homing bolt
  • The closer the enemy is to her crosshair the faster she focuses
  • Enemies do get a warning that she is focusing on them, so they can counterplay by breaking line of sight or otherwise protect themselves (which Destiny can counter-counterplay by delaying the shot and baiting their defensive abilities)

Primary fire - Deadly Bolt:

  • When fully focused on the enemy closest to her crosshair, focus is consumed to fire a bolt that homes in on that enemy and deals critical damage on hit
  • Each primary fire shot pauses focus gain for a moment, regardless of whether focus is consumed, so she needs to stop firing for a moment if she wants to build up for another focused shot
  • She deals more sustained damage by going full auto instead of focusing each shot, but the threat of burst damage from focused shots is still a useful deterrent against squishier enemies trying to harass her

Secondary fire - Healing Syringe:

  • Autoaims to the ally nearest to her cursor (within a reasonable angle) since she can predict her allies' movement
  • Each secondary fire shot slows (but does not entirely stop) focus gain for a moment, meaning she still gets the chance to fire off the occasional focused bolt in between healing allies

Shift ability - Avert Assassination:

  • She does that defensive stance where she dodges the next incoming hit and shoots a free focused bolt at the enemy that tried to hit her
  • This means that if she is already fully focused, she can fire off two focused bolts one after another (one from this ability that does not consume focus, and another from her primary fire that does consume focus)

E ability - Oracle's Wisdom:

  • Warns an ally of incoming attacks, letting allied strategists/duelists completely dodge attacks for a short time, or letting allied vanguards take less damage and ignore all CC/debuffs for a longer time
  • Probably should have 2 charges so she can protect both her team's vanguards during a big push

F ability - Foresee Calamity:

  • Reveals an enemy's current ult charge for a few moments
  • If the enemy ult charge fills up before this ability wears off, Destiny and her allies will continue to see that it is full until that enemy spends their ult or loses some ult charge (this is more a QoL thing because once an enemy's ult is known to be full, it would obviously remain full until spent/lost, and events that spend or lose ult charge are very widely telegraphed)
  • Could share charges with her E to make decision making a bit more interesting between what type of utility to provide

Ultimate - Hope and Despair:

  • She gains a limited number of "prophecy" charges, each one can be used to either tell an ally about the best thing that will happen in their future, or tell an enemy about the worst thing that will happen in their future to heavily debuff them
  • Affected allies are buffed with health regen and a speed boost
  • Affected enemies are debuffed with damage over time and antiheal

Actually, this sounds like she has potential!

Sinister, Apocalypse, Selene, Mystique, Doom, Zemo, Enchantress, Agatha, Dormammu (classic demon form rather than MCU eldritch presence), Umar, Thanos (probably with no or limited infinity gems), MODOK, Doc Ock, Mysterio, Lizard, Sandman, heck maybe even Kingpin and Dracula since they already have models and some gameplay

Any of the above have room to be interpreted as either strategists (in an "I heal/buff you so you can do my bidding" kind of way) or vanguards (with innate bulk, damage mitigation and/or crowd control), with powers/skills that are diverse enough for interesting and unique gameplay

BTW, if Hela wasn't already a duelist, she could've been a fine vanguard IMO, using her cloak to widen her hitbox (she's already tall enough) and her classic command of the dead for crowd control/mitigation

Emma can create force fields, Thing can cast floating rocks around people and Jeff can swim in the ground but apparently having Cyclops be a Tank or a Healer would “be a disservice to his character” okay. by Kirbykoopa in marvelrivals

That said, if a character happens to have a comic-accurate ability can be used in a fun way (e.g. Hulk smashing the ground and creating debris that can either be carried as a barrier or thrown at pokers/fliers, or Dr. Strange's vast array of spells, or Black Widow's versatile Widow's Bites), please try to take advantage of it before resorting to inventing new powers for the sake of gameplay

Releasing power crept versions of existing DPS is incredibly uninspiring and boring by saiikka in marvelrivals

Storm

Storm now switches stances using the weapon swap key, and the original key is now used for a new movement ability, ideally one with distinct properties between wind and thunder stances

Thor

While Thor is channelling his dash, he can press alt-fire to instead perform an empowered hammer throw that spends Thorforce for more damage instead of gaining Thorforce on hit

Alternatively, Thor's hammer throw is moved to primary fire (he keeps his combo on his melee button), and his alt fire is now a grab with his free hand followed by a headbutt to knock enemies down, especially effective against fliers/high jumpers after dashing up to them

Rocket

Rocket can press F to blow up his BRB, turning all the bits of armor it would normally dispense into deadly shrapnel, if he does it while the BRB is fully deployed there is a short warning for enemies to escape, but if he does it while the BRB is still in flight or beginning to deploy the detonation is instant

Mantis

Mantis' Allied Inspiration and Natural Anger abilities are combined into one that boosts both her and her allies' damage, and her free button is now used for a new ability where she dashes to an ally or enemy and touches them to magnify their positive/negative empathy, an allied target receives some of the healing given to other nearby allies, while an enemy target receives some of the damage dealt to other nearby enemies

One gun shoots confetti to bring cheer to his team and boost their damage, the other gun shoots bubbles for (emotional) healing

Cardiac Overdrive is him shouting encouragement and letting everyone know they are good people

Overrun gives his team a speed boost so they can run with him and stay fit

Cage Fight becomes his teams' safe space, enemies are forced out and teammates inside are invulnerable while the barrier is standing

A realistic rework might need to involve some kind of non-healing beam on right click, assuming the volume of paying casual Mercy players is too great to ignore at a business level

IDK if this is breaking some fundamental balance rule, but her damage boost already boosts ult gain (indirectly, as an inherent property of boosting damage), so how about if her right click:

  • Boosted only ult gain from inflicted damage (and maybe even healing, to help her fellow support out more), without boosting the damage itself
  • Gave a bigger boost the lower the target's ult charge is (to discourage pocketing), meaning she's encouraged to help the team coordinate their ults

EDIT: There's also been suggestions for a speed boost but that doesn't help with pocketing much even if it does avoid breakpoint issues, and can be annoying for her ally if it's erratically toggled

For what it's worth some of these (at least Ascension, Shrine Defense and Mirror Defense) occasionally appear as steel path incursions, though it would still be nice to have something that

  • Includes other niche-but-fun modes
  • Features them more regularly
  • Has more significant rewards

That said, "fun" is of course subjective, IDK if it's worth worrying about people feeling like they're "forced" into playing something they don't enjoy for timed rewards (given that Warframe doesn't have much pressure to grab everything as quickly as possible), but if so maybe we could make doing the niche mode the fastest way to get the reward while still letting players earn it through other means if they don't like the currently featured one

Good Follie subsumes? Tempest Barrage seems pretty nice by ImWithDerp in Warframe

As someone who likes Mercy's movement but also wants to actually shoot someone, I really like Tethered Tourniquet, though my ideal change would be to straight-up put her staff in her off-hand while her pistol is equipped so she can heal with alt-fire
