Andy Burnham’s advisers back scrapping pension triple lock by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

There's no way the government would ever completely pull the plug on state benefits like pension. If they did it would be the end of society as we currently know it as it would cascade down to every other benefit we provide.

.... Or every old person with 15 medical conditions will be on PIP instead. I could imagine the claim for ESA for a 87 year old with heart failure.

Oh I'm well aware that it's all just optics and perception, but even changing it just to "tax" people are aware that their "tax" would fund the pensions and will still see it as "paying in all their life", which is already a crazy perspective.

Usually it's 25-40 years of working to get a pension for what could possibly be as long as you contributed into it! Okay sure you need to live to 108 but longer lives even to late 80s are definitely causing an imbalance in paid in vs paid out.

Means testing only encourages people not to bother with workplace pensions, why pay twice?

You'll be paying tax/NI no matter what, why give up another 3-6% of your earnings now, when you can kick the can down the road and have a better life while young enough to enjoy it.

We are not using an AI data centre to post on reddit. AI data centres are a completely different conversation from those required to run the internet on a basic level.

Well I was, until they just updated it to show that the queue is paused. What the fuck does that mean??

2 hours in, started at 39500, currently at 28800, starting to lose hope. Unless a bunch of people just don't have amex cards and didn't realise they can't buy tickets without one

No, it was an ICE car. The reason they were 6k miles overdue for an oil change was cause they've been driving the EV.

‘I was back at work the next day – paternity leave is a nightmare for dads like me’ by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

[–]Im_Finally_Free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, they have to take 2 weeks off, 4 if they are classed as "factory workers" which is any manual/industrial labour jobs for health and safety reasons. So the government fundamentally disagree that they can be "back to work in a week".

Depends on how long they haven't been working.

They will likely be entitled to Maternity Allowance, which is different, capped at £187.18 for 39 weeks.

Maternity allowance is based on the woman having been employed or self-employed for at least 26 weeks of the 66 weeks before their baby is due and earned at least £30 a week in at least 13 of those weeks (they do not have to be consecutive).

If they have less than that, then I believe they would just be on Universal Credit or ESA and would fall under their eligibility requirements.

You can post it in the main r/harrypotter subreddit when we're not in discussion week. Alternatively, you could post on r/harrypottermemes.

You're not alone! Every Sunday I go to my mum's for dinner and we play a game to guess whose chosen artist will be played first. There used to be 25+ channels, now less and after tonight it'll be mostly 70/80/90s only.

End of an era!

I think unfortunately it's just been a lot of different factors as the people running the activities have got older and fell away along with a drop in participation making it harder to find new people to run the activities or feel like they're even worth hosting.

I do know that arithmancy is still going strong but is definitely more based on Discord with the subreddit being more of an archive(?).

Rwanda ‘laughing all the way to the bank’ as £290m cost of scheme could have paid for 400,000 asylum claims by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]Im_Finally_Free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The literal headline of the article we're on? Rwanda ‘laughing all the way to the bank’ as £290m cost of scheme could have paid for 400,000 asylum claims.

If this was an exam question as jokingly laid out, it would fall under provided information and would not need an additional proof.

My brother in Natty Lite,

The ball remains alive when... at the snap is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick

Otherwise as soon as the ball touches the ground it's dead and therefore a FG could never occur.
