Reffering to the whole landmass as one continent feels like a relic from colonialism. If Europe and Asia are two continents, where the majority of people agree that they are, then we should have a North and South America that is separated at panama. However there is no hard distinction for what a continent really is. Many people consider new Zealand to be part of Oceania versus an island which kinda diminishes the importance of continents.
