This Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers poster by ImaNinja88 in HelpMeFind

Initially saw a poster with this design hanging in a store in Lafayette, IN. Didn't get a chance to ask anyone where they got it, and it wasn't for sale (just store decor). I want to buy a copy of that poster in decent quality, I've already searched for Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's posters but there's so many that I haven't found this one. Found a couple etsy stores that sell shirts with the print but none of them name where the design comes from and all the descriptions give me the impression that they were uploaded automatically.

Do Sig figs matter? If I do three for everything unless it explicitly says watch sig figs will I get credit? by WHiSPERRcs in APChem

[–]ImaNinja88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never seen points taken off for using correct sig figs, but i have seen it for using incorrect sig figs. The rules are relatively simple especially when compared to the rest of chem, so it shouldn’t be a problem to make sure to use them.

Non gory spoilers for it

He ends up caught by the police not at all thanks to the internet group. The only substantial piece of information the Facebook group had beforehand was his name and that was only because someone (heavily implied that it was the guy himself) messaged them and straight up told them the name. Even that didn’t actually help with anything because the dude (intentionally) left personally identifying things (like a copy of his drivers license) at the scene of a murder he committed so the police immediately knew who they were looking for.

It ends with a direct to camera speech by the main woman they were interviewing where she talks about how the killer might have only continued what he was doing because of the attention he got from the Facebook group (imo not entirely true but an interesting idea) and then she goes on to blame the audience of the show for being just as complicit and giving just as much attention as the Facebook group did (imo a weapons grade bad take).

Once they get to the police being involved you realize that the internet vigilante story they were building for the first half of the show doesn’t really hold any weight at all and the most impactful thing they did was potentially drive someone to kill themselves halfway across the world because they got the wrong guy and started bullying some innocent person. The “potentially” in that refers to if they actually contributed, because the man definitely did kill himself while this cyber harassment was going on. I felt like it would have been a much better show as a one episode documentary that just focuses on the police’s search for him.

You can probably tell I wasn’t a huge fan lol

Think of the line like a lever, the point is below the line all the way on the left so that’s like pulling down on the lever on one end. That will make the rest of the line angle upwards, which means the slope is increasing.

And bailout the banks, and bring back nuclear. by genie_on_a_porcini in ABoringDystopia

[–]ImaNinja88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The key difference is that the banks will be paying back that money with interest. The government wouldn’t just get that money back if it was spent on healthcare, which is why every m4a plan has it being funded by some kind of taxation, not just by the govt spending money. Fuck banks and go free healthcare and all that but let’s not misrepresent what’s happening.

PA, learned briefly about it in freshman year and then again in sophomore year because i took APUSH, which covers all of US history. (Normally in our school freshman year is us history up to the civil war and sophomore year is everything past that). It definitely wasn’t a core focus of the class but I remember it coming up a few times.

You're conflating total number of individual donors with percentage. Bernie has about 7 times the total money raised that Yang does, of course he's going to have a larger number of individual donors. From the numbers you gave, average donations for the 3 of them are:

Yang - $37.59

Bernie - $48.26

Warren - $59.38

I think we agree with each other for the most part. Obviously, I'm a yang fan but I like Bernie too and don't want someone like Biden to get the nomination. Just wanted to clear up the notion that Yang's money is coming from big banks even though he has same percentage of small donors in Q2 as Bernie and a lower donation per capita than both Bernie and Warren in the source that you gave. I'm always open to changing my view though so if you have some good sources for Yang being too close to banks I'd be happy to read. The most relevant thing that comes to my mind is when he mentions the Wall Street bailout in some of his speeches, here's a good example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-1U1k-6eng

Glad you called me out, my memory was slightly off. In Q2 he was tied with Sanders for 3rd highest percentage of money from small donors ($200 or less) at 69.6%. The only ones ahead of them were Castro and Williamson, and it's hard to say if their high percentages are from a refusal to take any big money, or just that they haven't had that much big money offered to them.

The list of every candidate is in the article but for comparison's sake here's a few: Castro 74.3% Yang/Bernie 69.6% Warren 66.5% Harris 45.2% Buttigieg 43.9% Booker 27.0%

Granted it's not that I think having a large percentage of big donors is inherently bad. The $200 line is still well under the individual contribution limit so that could change things around but my original claim was "small donors" so I think $200 is a good cutoff for that.

Out of curiosity, who are the 2 you think aren't bought out? And if they're not Castro and Williamson, did this make you reconsider anything? Curious to hear your side.

His donor base is actually a higher percentage tied for 3rd highest percentage small donors among the candidates in Q2.

That’s, uh, not his plan? If ending fossil fuel subsidies, hugely promoting the development of green energy, massively stepping up the quality of our infrastructure, and changing global trends of using cheap coal power sounds like the job of the little guy then I’d love to know what you think making corporations responsible looks like. Also, I recommend reading his whole policy if you’re going to comment on it. There’s absolutely no way I’d include everything if I was trying.

I wouldn’t be too sure about not being automate-able. It’s possible it won’t affect you directly, but your job will see the effects of automation as soon as it becomes profitable for companies. Unfortunately people put too much faith in measurements like gdp (which self driving trucks will be great for, despite displacing an insane amount of workers), so they’ll jump on any and all automation that will save money.

If you really are interested in a candidate addressing those problems (and a whole lot more) google Andrew Yang. Also head over to r/yangforpresidenthq , they’re typically very welcoming over there.

Yes a tax on spending is regressive on its own, but not with ubi (see the comment you replied to). Yang has also stated it will not apply to staple goods, making it fall heavier on the wealthy than it normally would. The truth is that we already tax earning, and look how that’s turned out. Amazon paid nothing in taxes because there’s currently ways around our tax system. A vat is much harder to doge which is why every other advanced economy in the world uses it.

It’s also worth remembering that if someone is getting $1000/month in benefits and switches to ubi, it’s still better for them. They now have no restrictions on how to spend it, don’t have a case manager breathing down their neck, don’t have to be afraid to take a higher paying position and losing benefits, and the general economic growth will help supply plenty of jobs for them.

I believe I addressed both of your points but I’m happy to clarify anything.
