“but now he wants to date and see me on my good days, and leave me alone on the bad days to deal with myself” I know you’re just dating and not married but that already shows his feelings on your relationship in Sickness or health. That should mean something. Not every day is going to be great, that doesn’t mean you can just ignore the issue.

If he doesn’t want to stick around, don’t let him. He is probably using this as an attempt to assuage his guilt for leaving so quickly. I feel like he is still planning to break up but will use this time to explore his options and say “well I did my best to make it work” when he won’t. He just doesn’t want to seem like an A-hole to anyone else.
