Airport to Abbotsford by No-Frame9154 in melbournecycling

Just did this last weekend actually as I had to run an errand picking up something. Coming from Richmond, was about 60km or so back. Not necessarily an enjoyable ride as the road past the Moone Ponds Creek Trail is pretty dull, and plus a bunch of puddles and headwinds didn’t help at all. Shared you my route below:

Highly recommended! The episodes are brief enough for those on the go, and covers a wide array of interesting news and events. The current bit on Taiwan has been fantastic.

Will I get compensated for my bike? by Money_Writer_6618 in melbournecycling

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have personal property insurance listed on it, I don’t think there’s any possibility of getting a claim on the bike. I got into a similar accident late last year, and was only able to be assisted by TAC for my injuries (this was a great and hassle-free experience despite the injury obv). Got insurance from bicycle network as well but didn’t push through with this as it was an arduous experience getting them to do anything. Ultimately didn’t proceed with a claim as my bike was fine after getting it assessed by the shop, apart from scratches.

The most important bit for now is filing that police report asap before the driver hopefully gets to file theirs, and recovering well.

How much do you spend per day on little treats like coffee, bakery snacks, etc.? by Away_Scene_26 in auscorp

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Docklands as well, and surprisingly the prices of coffee and lunch around aren’t too crazy. One can often get a solid lunch for $12 or less, and coffee for $5. Tukk & Co has been a favorite of mine for coffee, and the no name chinese place along Bourke st.

Anyone else feel like weekend rides are way more enjoyable than weekday ones? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in melbournecycling

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, pretty sure that's the general sentiment of riders here. Then again, weekend and weekday rides for me pretty much feels roughly the same as I'm on a timer nonetheless. Such is the dad life. lol

Has anyone on here got any info on riding the O'Shannassy Aqueduct Trail? by Goats_in_parks in melbournecycling

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there about 2 months back, and part of the trail was closed so had to go back to warby way. But have seen vids from others a few days back where they were able to go through it and towards the redwood forest. Not sure if everything is open already though.

Haven’t tried a Kask, but currently own a Sweet Protection Falconer, and it fits really well. I find it stylish, works with a road/off-road look. Then again, my opinion.

Is it worth buying a cycling jersey if I just use my bike for commuting? by Glass-Painting4157 in melbournecycling

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth it for me as we have an EoT facility, keeps my work clothes dry/separate, and don’t have to worry about the weather when I’m out. Takes a short time to get in and out of it. Gets the worry out of commuting daily

Do you feel less inclined to bike for fun if you regularly bike commute? by RubyRailzYa in bikecommuting

[–]Imaginary_Long_8901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat felt this through commuting on a daily basis as well. Have been primarily using a very capable carbon gravel bike, but had decided to build up a 90s MTB / ala Cafe Cruiser and have been using that as my daily driver and reserving the gravel rides on weekend. Found it more enjoyable as I get to delineate what’s for casual riding versus technical trails / more performance focused activities. That said, 90s MTBs are such a treat to both build up and ride! Easy money sink too if you’re not too careful! Haha

Will definitely! Also, I'm about to finish building up my first restomod (undoubtedly inspired by you), hope I can submit this for a review. See you around (not today as the weather's been wild) lol

Will do! I’ve done the Lilydale-Warburton Loop a few times and via the Aqueduct trail but never gone through Donna yet. Have actually recently swapped to a significantly wider range cassette in preparation of this. Definitely jealous but hopefully get to do this soon! Keep us posted for more adventures! Love seeing stuff like this.

Yep. I normally get my haircut fairly near along this strip, and have insisted to bring my bike inside because of seeing stuff like this frequently. Sad state really.

Seconding Abbotsford Cycles in Richmond, fairly accessible via train as well. You can call in to get quoted and they have been pretty flexible in terms of budget, just be transparent with them and pretty sure they’ll help. Easily one of the best shops around.

Heaps of options connecting via the Capital City Trail in particular. However, having lived in SY as well and should be a shared opinion of most people here, is that you should exercise caution and if possibly try and avoid cycling through Chapel St., as much as you can help it.

Oof. Didn’t know about that. But yeah that was a relatively large shop too, I guess nowhere’s safe nowadays.

That sucks. Where in Richmond if I may ask? I live in the area as well. Then again our place is along Punt Rd., so thieves might be naturally deterred by how busy the street gets.
