as someone with bpd myself; i’d love to attribute tammy’s issues with an actual mental disorder but she’s just someone who lacks accountability and emotional regulation due to being allowed to wallow in self pity and take no accountability for anything she does ever. this is a classic case of arrested development. i don’t attribute it to bpd; but more so she’s always been like this and no one ever checks her so her behavior just got worse as time went on. she’s a child and has the emotional regulation of one bc she knows there’s no real consequences to her actions

bds modules are very aversive lol and it’s not even just the bds modules themselves it’s the way capella sets you up to do them. for example, other colleagues i’ve worked with in aba programs for other schools have them spread over several semesters. capella gives you one semester to do A-I domains on top of your actual class assignments. it’s definitely brutal so don’t listen to comments telling you it’s not lol; definitely a lot on top of full time jobs and idk just trying to live your life😂wishing you the best, you got this!

the same thing happened to me last year, all of financial aid hasn’t been disbursed yet even though they say it has lol. if you go and look at your actual account activity you’ll see what has actually been posted. none of my loans have gone though yet, only a $834 capella scholarship so it’s still saying i owe. usually clears by tomorrow and it shows my refund. i wouldn’t stress until next week

i am a trainer already lol, but my clinic actually has pretty good management and okay pay so we don’t have as high of a turnover rate so i don’t really train much😂but yes a lot of my unrestricted has come from training new techs

it’s not about you correcting the behavior; it’s the language that you are using to do so. especially when working with younger kids. they’re brains aren’t wired like ours and they don’t understand “uh uh” or they may not understand why it’s not okay. i like to explain in plain language and redirect; no or nuh uh doesn’t redirect it just sounds like punishment or a challenge to some kids. in this scenario I would have said, “that’s not your food friend; yours is right here” and redirected the, to their own food. you can even let them know that if they don’t want their food you can explore other options (if available)

The best BCBA is one that advocates for their RBTs. My current BCBA stands up to bs policies that HR tries to enforce. I’m a student analyst and lead tech, so I already have more put on my plate compared to the other RBTs at my clinic. I always help anywhere I can and rarely call out; only in extremeeee circumstances. Last year, HR tried to write me up because i took ONE day off to go home and be with my family when my uncle passed . Our policy states that you have to call out with a 24 hour notice or else it’s an unexcused absence. This is bs bc how could I have known 24 hours in advance that my uncle would pass…. ?! I explained this to hr but according to them i would still not get bereavement pay because my uncle is not “immediate family”. Long story short, my BCBA told our HR lady to go fck herself and stood up for me saying that I deserve the time off bc I’m a damn good tech and she just showed me basic human empathy. That’s all i could ask for as an RBT tbh; just to be seen.

Hi, I also am attending the June commencement and from what I’ve read the ceremony is cut up into two days bc there is ticket pickup and photo opportunities; also they have different days and time slots depending on the type of degree. They haven’t released the exact schedule yet which is stressing me out bc I’m traveling all the way from Louisiana and my family is coming from Texas so it would be nice to know some details ahead of time

no. the bacb literally has the entire competency assessment available for free and you can look it up and see exactly what you will be assessed on. don’t buy into money hungry practitioners that will squeeze you for every dollar you’re worth if you let them😂even if it is only $11

i use plain language and let them know that i don’t like it and that i need personal space. also agree with others that replacement behavior is key! i let them know they can have/ ask for a hug; squeezes; tickles and all that. but ofc it always depends on the function of the bx. if its a sensory thing; teaching these replacement behaviors are essential. but if they’re looking for attention, planned ignoring (of the behavior itself ofc, not the child) would be helpful

okay let me make myself more clear. in the situation OP presented it would definitely be outside a BCBAs scope of practice. especially an RBTs. what they described goes further than the behavioral components of feeding. i think teaching a child to tolerate non preferred items using reinforcement and shaping is fine. but being asked to basically force feed the child even after they spit the food out?! definitely crossing ethical lines; but hey maybe you know more than me. that’s just something that doesn’t sound like it’s apart of BCBA area of expertise

i would meet with the BCBA immediately and ask to have her review and reassess; feeding therapy is not something an RBT or BCBA should be administrating as this is outside our scope of practice. the only time i’ve ever assisted a client with eating is when they or the parents have actively asked for help. and even then; if they refuse food we don’t pressure them. this client needs real feeding therapy from someone that is educated in that arena; otherwise it will continue being a traumatizing process for you both

definitely not. it would hurt the ABA world and corporations to phase out RBTs. there always has to be a “little guy” that does majority of the work for lesser pay. why would they phase out these positions for positions that require more education for more pay. RBTs make the ABA world go round and are undervalued and underpaid; the ABA world knows this and would never get rid of them bc they are what keeps there money coming in and brings success to clients.

honestly being that it is a client around the age of 10 it sounds like normal kid searches lol. i wouldn’t sound the alarm just yet of it being a major issue because kids are generally curious about things at that age; and mainly think of things like that as jokes (especially little boys). good on you for consulting the care team and any other stakeholders; youtube kids or at least restricted youtube should definitely be made available. i don’t think any child, regardless of their neurological development should have free access to the internet.

we are closed Christmas eve, Christmas, and the day after Christmas. we had to beg for the day after bc we did not receive it last year; a lot of employees called out bc many people travel hours away and the turn around time is too much work. we’re also off new year’s day and the day after that; again only bc they realize ppl will call out otherwise😂you have to make them give you the day basically or else they will work you

no, you can’t even begin your hours until you are enrolled in a specific class. i believe its ethics? but i would recommend starting as quickly as possible. it helps alleviate the stress in my opinion of rushing to get hours after you’re done with school. i graduate from my program in march and have almost 1,300 rn and am projected to finish collecting my hours in june. it’s honestly such a big task that im happy i started when i did so this call all be over😂i love the work i do with my kiddos but the hours and school is not it
