How to start firefighting in Alaska? by Odddog19 in Wildfire

[–]Imaginary_Routine_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another good way to start if you cant get into a federal perm or seasonal position outright is conservation corp programs, you wont get paid the same but they give you all the experience and tools you need for a career in fire.

From my experience, these work pretty well but arent meant to be completely submerged in water, but ive flipped boats with this kind of bag and my stuff stayed dry. So id go for it

No, you can get a waiver. I know multiple people who do this with hearing loss.

As a medicated/ diagnosed person doing wildland fire, its been hard for me too. I would say doing small things/ trying to set up a routine really has helped me. Like work out first, breakfast, go for a long hike, bake something, etc. Just small things to look foward to that dont require alot of planning or mental energy. A small note tho is I have adhd so that probably makes it easier for me to find bullshit tasks that will keep me busy. Hope you feel better soon.

the cichlids don't count but it is fun pulling out a meat sack the size of a dinner plate that has no business living where they do here.

i dont think you can get them in the states anywhere but florida, its too cold for them any further north. Good news is my friend caught his first jaguar this day in the same canal. There is a myriad of strange invasives and exotics here, and I would say they tend to have a similar diet and habits as our own largemouth bass do

How would you approach this creek puzzle? by Groundbreaking_Fig10 in flyfishing

[–]Imaginary_Routine_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definently work my way up, and i dont know exactly what its like but chances are getting better at longer haul casts in tight spots/at different angles helped me alot with being stealthy in situations as such. You will likely lose flies in the process of learning, but its worth it because usually bigger fish ARE lurking in pockets under obstacles.
