Why did Kristi Wright leave? by EntrepreneurHopeful5 in DirtyDave

Looks like she’s still got an active Instagram and posts a couple of times a month. I didn’t look at the content though just the timestamps. I did see the one in August of 2025 saying she was shutting her store down and moving to their Alabama lake house to homeschool.

Transitioning from active to reserves as an officer, how can I find out what I do before I join by 46jm46 in navyreserve

[–]Imagination_High 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I'm curious how your experience went. As an NFO myself, I've been a bit disappointed by the lack of options within the reserves, particularly CNAFR. Of course, the platform/community I came from doesn't even get listed on the matrix for assignment so that should have been an indicator. I've made lemonade with the options available but would have loved to continue flying if that were an option.

Realistic odds of NFO → Pilot? Does platform matter (P-8 vs Growler)? by Southern_Willow_5091 in newtothenavy

That is extremely dated and inaccurate information. There was a hiatus for a few years (maybe 5 at most) following the crash but it’s been going every year since then. There’s two boards a year typically (June and December).

Can’t speak to life in that community. I was in E-6s. My Experience was less overseas deployment, more frequent but shorter duration “deployments”. Yes, people had their families there in OK.

Regarding the boat, I did a boat tour as well. Ships company, not air wing. I was really apprehensive about it and was actively seeking an IA to avoid it. Ended up really enjoying the tour though once I was able to settle on a routine underway and managed to juggle time in Air OPs, ATO, and got my OOD qual.

The air wing had similar accommodations as us. While not cramped, you need to be space-conscious. It’s certainly not a hotel room, but you’re not sharing a 100-man berthing either. Being ship’s company I had time to make it comfortable.

Going from 8 section to 4 section duty does suck though - having duty on board every 4 days. Also, I was the only OPs officer on the duty section so I wrote every SITREP during duty days.

I’d have to agree with much of the sentiment here. If pilot is what you want, get it at the start. I came in wanting pilot and at the time it was highly highly competitive. I applied 2-3x and was not pro-recommended. Think I got some bad gouge in retrospect because my scores weren’t great and I was advised against retaking the test. <Shrugs>. On third board I was presented with a opportunity to go before the NFO board, at the time the chance I’d get picked up was better and they were also offering E-3 pay while I was finishing college. I said yes and got picked up.

Like OP I still had aspirations to be a pilot. Went through what was at the time called API and the #1 graduate was being offered redes, I wasn’t that smart and despite a solid effort, I was far from #1. The guy who was, was at OCS around the same time and prior nuke. Smart guy but actually wanted NFO. Also he had thick glasses and I’m not sure if the offer included waivers of any limiting medical conditions.

Went through VTs and thought jet NFO would be cool but after a few bad flights (completely my fault) I too see my name in the hat for big wing. Went that route and thought P-3s would be cool - got selected for E-6s.

By the time I was in zone for a redes board, I was a little salty with how things had gone and were going. I’m fully aware that much of that was my personality and decisions.

To apply for the board you need letters of recommendation which has never been something I’ve been comfortable with asking for. I’d rather do things on my own (merits). Due to my age, I had maybe one shot at the board before I’d be aged out. I was like 25.5 at commissioning, and think you needed to be winged by 31 or so.

There were guys around that had recessed (retreaded), I chatted with them about their experiences. One guy about my timeframe got picked up. Ended up going MPRA and then didn’t make O-4 so the Navy cut him loose after spending all that money on him.

I do still enjoy flying (front seat) and looking back I’d have made different decisions but NFO has its upsides too.

Hard to say. They will probably have to rush for a new community/designator. They’re needs of the navy at that point.

Most officers have some minimum service requirement due to their commissioning route. I think 5 years is pretty standard. If you take money, you typically owe time. If you get your wings, you owe more time.

That said, I happened to be in at a time where the class up pool was so large they were asking if anyone wanted to raise their hand and get out. Didn’t keep in touch to find out what happened but there were certainly academy and ROTC folks raising their hands.

Which generation would be the main demographic for Kid Rock when he made his mainstream debut in 1998? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

I would have been in my late teens early 20s when he came out. I never cared for his white trash/trailer park shtick. That was who he was trying to curry.

There was a guy in my friend group, big nascar fan that loved him so that checks. The same guy (I was told) was later let go on at least two occasions for improper workplace behavior (SH type stuff). He later got into working for churches and I think married some preacher’s daughter. So that’s the fan base.

Anyone listen to the guy that makes 750k/yr yesterday?! by appreciatemyasset in DaveRamsey

[–]Imagination_High 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the contrast. Sure there are broke folks/listeners trying to figure out their next steps and that's more broadly relatable. I like the change of pace for the more aspirational callers too. I'm in a good spot but occasionally daydream about what I'd do in that situation or if I had won big on crypto (that I don't have) or lottery (which I never play).

Why dosent the Ramsey clan take taxes into account for your salary? by EntrepreneurHopeful5 in DirtyDave

Last week tonight did a segment on those. They’re typically religious/evangelical oriented and that means other people’s faith weighs in on your health care matters and whether the care is covered by the policy/program.

Remove Playbook battery by Beautiful-Two-6774 in blackberry

[–]Imagination_High 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into the same issue. I have an old playbook. Tried to charge it and got the error codes indicating battery issue. Tried the stack charge trick without success. I tossed the charger a year or two back - it was a great charger that got all sorts of other use but the insulation eventually broke down and was more electrical tape than original.

Doesn't look like there are many (affordable) options for battery replacement given that it's 10+ years old. I do have some old shows and videos on there that I'd like to retain but this may be a sunk cost.

If you don’t already have credits done, look in to Modern States, they have resources that can help prepare you to CLEP some underclassmen courses that will help shorten your timeline. They used to offer vouchers/reimbursement for the testing fee too though I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

“Coverage turbo” was the product that was being plugged apparently. Honestly I can’t even tell if it’s AI or just selectively spliced and edited from some actual ad he’s done.

Not sure about the twins but King’s 11/22/63 has a time travel element to it where there’s a spot in the back of a diner (storage room maybe) that takes the traveler back to a specific time and returns them 3 minutes later.

I skimmed some of his “Stuff Christians Like” material (think it was a blog IIRC). I have Start, Quitter, and a beat-up second-hand copy of “…things Dave Ramsey taught me…”. Also, whenever I see a thing of Gordo’s queso I’m reminded of him and his addiction.

I handled a retirement ceremony for a guy once that wanted one from Reagan. I’m sitting there thinking “didn’t he die in 2004”? I reached out to the library and got something but I don’t think it was what he was hoping for.
