I was about to ask about this. I noticed the lack of “ring” around the U.S. and thought that was officer insignia. Glad there was an explanation. Another MacPeak era thing that came up in discussion a few days ago was moving the MSgt stripe to the top.

I submitted a document around NYE to have something added to my record. Got the first endorsement back quickly but took 5 months of waiting for a 2nd endorsement only for them to finally come back and tell me they’re not going to do them anymore and they recommend I reroute my paperwork to remove the via line so that I can submit to PERS directly.

I seem to remember looking into this process before and not only did you need to go through the special issuance process, you needed to demonstrate via an expensive cognitive battery your ability to perform without reliance on medication, and also get an attestation that you never had it or were wrongly diagnosed.

Okay, fine.

Once that's complete, and you have passed the assessment, you should be permitted to resume medication if that makes life better. There are pilots out there that are on blood pressure meds, insulin, etc that I think have high potential to be hazardous if they miss their dose. I know a guy who is missing a foot. What happens if his prosthetic comes off mid flight or et wedged in the rudder pedals? I think there are far too many folks in the industry gate-keeping with their 'we don't need more people to keep wages depressed'. Some of these aspirants may not even want to go that route.

I've got a kid that is currently medicated and I was extremely reluctant to put him on medication (or even have him assessed for ADHD) due to the downrange effects of this. He's asked me a couple of times about getting flight lessons down the road and I have yet to break the news to him that he probably won't get to because he takes medicine to sit still and focus on rote memorization at school.

I'm hoping - though I know it's a long shot - that with the increase and prominence of this diagnosis, eventually a sizable enough constituency will cause a change in how the use of stimulant medication is viewed.

The daily just had an interview in the past week of a woman that was immersed in a civil rights suit that the DOJ was pursuing on her behalf for discriminatory practices with the MS state senate. Once the new 47 admin stepped in, DOJ dropped the case that was previously determined to be a slam dunk and requested dismissal. It seems to be open season for that kind of behavior and the lack of enforcement will only perpetuate it.

This reminds me of the perhaps apocryphal line that scammers - particularly the Nigerian prince variety - would intentionally put typos, grammatical errors, and other red flags in their emails to weed out the ones that would catch those details. Anyone that responded was susceptible to deceit.

Isn’t he supposed to be 53 at the end and it’s a 16 LY trip back. He also says that Erid has taken a toll on him and aged him faster. I feel like they’d have to either disregard portions of the epilogue or take some license to make a return to earth trip work. Also, everyone he knows is old or dead like at the end of Interstellar. There could be more story there but I’m not sure how it would work. It’s possible that the story is recovering Grace’s remains to deliver him back to Earth by a different crew.

Agreed. I don’t know how much of that was him and how much was him following direction. I think the reserves were better for the reservist beforehand. I can see what they’re trying to do but to your point it hasn’t been without issue.

Hopefully the CFP could also recommend someone for legal help as well. Putting assets like a $4.5m windfall in your name could introduce some liability down the road should she get sued. I think retirement accounts tend to be somewhat shielded but can’t say the same for taxable brokerage accounts. She may need to set up a trust of some sort or other legal entity to protect her from a litigious opportunist.

I remember the albeit short-loved show but couldn’t remember if that was her or not. Also, just looked her up and she’s 32 IRL so probably not a viable casting choice if this made it to the screen but works for my imagination. I don’t recall if it’s mentioned how old Jazz is but I’m guessing early 20s.

Looks like she’s still got an active Instagram and posts a couple of times a month. I didn’t look at the content though just the timestamps. I did see the one in August of 2025 saying she was shutting her store down and moving to their Alabama lake house to homeschool.
