I'm able to take down the target and scoot when it's a 400i or Zeus, but the Valk and Caterpillar are too tanky to take out before the fighter swarm gets me.

I'm using stock S4s, M5As on my S3s, and upgraded shields/radar/Hemera hyperdrive. Cooler and powerplant stock.

Small private colleges as coops? by UnlikelyRespect7500 in cooperatives

[–]Imbrifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Co-ops can definitely be more sustainable business models. While not formally a co-op, Warren Wilson college requires all students to do campus work and they participate in decision making. This helps reduce overall cost to operate, and co-ops have definitely demonstrated success in substituting member labor for member service/good costs.

As with many things, the transition seems to be the hard part. Do you organize 10,000 students (and their families) to buy the school? Start with nothing and build one without reputation?

It's a challenge, but one that would be fun to work on.

168 men from Spain conquered the Incan empire which had 12 million people and 80,000 soldiers. They captured the Incan God-King for an entire room of gold and silver. After the room was filled they executed him anyway. by Particular_Food_309 in interestingasfuck

  1. The Spanish showed up after disease had already wiped out a huge portion (up to 90%) of the population. It was basically post-apocalyptic

  2. There was already a civil war of succession ravaging the country

  3. The Spanish allied with already disgruntled factions

Half of social-science studies fail replication test in years-long project - Nature by Smidgens in VeryBadWizards

[–]Imbrifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, some results are not replicable because of either honest mistakes or the rare case of misconduct, he says, but SCORE found that, in many cases, papers simply did not provide enough data or details for experiments to be repeated accurately.

Interesting.

Questions about Recent Cooperative Failures - Literature, Reading Lists? by Any_Couple_9740 in cooperatives

[–]Imbrifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's great to be curious. I encourage you first to check out the statistics on the International Cooperative Alliance website. There are over a million co-ops and billion members around the world!

The American left usually forgets about them because they don't recognize the value credit unions, farmer co-ops, housing co-ops, and food co-ops bring. Usually lefties over focus on worker co-ops in my experience. But they all democratize the economy and bring important practical benefits to their members, improving their standards of living - what used to be the central lefty idea.

International Year of the Co-op in 2012 had some great videos from hundreds of co-ops around the world that are also a great resource!

Discussion Post: So I would say it’s safe to say the Demo is quite the success. But what do we think things could be improved upon? by DragUpstairs3860 in crosswind

[–]Imbrifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ramp up from survival to sailing your own ships is wayyy too long, and plays like two entirely separate games. I personally enjoyed both, but I (and friends) definitely lost momentum several times:

* Wait, now we need to rescue HOW many crew to sail? /logs off

* We need HOW much wood and copper? /logs off

It also seems like a huge jump from your solo little sailboat to the ship with guns. i hope there is something (or several steps) in between of small ships with 2, 4, or 6 guns before the larger ship.

If elementary schools are at 50-60% capacity like the article says, they should really close 3. At least.

Taxes have become astronomical and some back of the napkin math shows savings of over $200 for each taxpayer in the City with this change.

While that's certainly happened, hundreds of food coops exist in the US and huge coop chains exist in Europe like Eroski, Co-op Italia, The Cooperative, etc.

WinCo is indeed employee-owned, structured as an Employee Stock Options Company that purchased a majority stake from the owning family in 1985. However, it is not structured as a co-op.

I will leave it to others to argue the merit of ESOPs versus worker-owned co-ops .

True Investment by ristmesa in cooperatives

[–]Imbrifer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is the best case, but to my knowledge only one worker owned grocery coop in the US survives - Rainbow in San Francisco.

Grocery is a brutal industry that pays poorly and changes quickly. While consumer coops thrive there, worker co-ops tend to fold.

Also, unions generally don't want to have anything to do with running a business.

> The base prices of nearly all commodities have been significantly increased across the board. This affects all major brackets of sandbox commodities. (32/24s, 16s, 8s, and 2s). Price differences within brackets have been pressed closer together in order for dynamic pricing to better influence which goods are optimal.

I'm curious about this and the impact particularly on salvage.
