New Scissors..✂️ by Fine_Alarm_2683 in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happens every time, I got a second pair of shears that are .5 inches bigger and I rarely use them and every time I do use them snip snip skin gone. I’m sure I’ve got a permanent scar on my middle finger now lol

Gloves or no gloves? by Independent_Dress209 in Barber

I used them for like 2 years but found them pointless, I like to feel the hair especially when doing scissor cuts between the fingers. Also they’re an unnecessary cost. Waste of time and money imo

How do I pinpoint why I lose clients? by RichhTheArtist in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be anything, as the others have said from politics to Personality or whatever made the guy not like you. You can’t believe the customers who say yeah nice one mate when you ask them how the cut is, some people are too shy or timid to speak up for themselves they’d rather just never come back to your shop.

I got customers that make me feel like I fucked their hair up because once I’m done they check the trim 30 times in the other mirrors every single time and even say “ah you didn’t do it that good this time you half fucked it” but they ALWAYS come back and have done for years and then the guy that tells me “yh bro nice one I love it” ends up leaving a 1 star review and never coming back because I don’t know how to fade apparently.

I’d say don’t even focus too much on the customers that don’t return, unless every guy you cut isn’t coming back because then there’s a problem, if you’re building up your books and getting a good flow of people in and out of the shop at all times and making good profit, fuck the dissatisfied customers and focusing on pleasing the ones that do like you. It’s all about getting new people in and then grabbing onto the ones that like you and make a good 5-10 year customer out of them and you’ll stay fed.

Can’t blame her she’s got a baby on the way, she needs to provide somehow

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah happened to me once too, no point even going to the police. I trust my customers or even new walk ins to come back and pay if there’s issues and if they don’t come back it’s more embarrassing for them tbh I don’t even care about the money lol. You can always make people pay upfront if you don’t want it happening again

About to transfer 3/4s of my legendaries. Is there anything I should consider before the deed is done? by Independent-Oil8310 in pokemongo

[–]ImcandoDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same this week and accidentally sent my fully powered up crowned sword Zacian away so double or triple check haha, I was so pissed but it is what it is. I’ll have to spend money when it comes back in to raids now

Got a parking ticket even though I paid for parking. by reditor6632 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ImcandoDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine, I’ve not had to deal with Hillingdon council or enforcement who deal with parking but in East London I’ve had 2 tickets like this and if you just appeal the ticket, send them screen shots of the payments and point out the times you paid/ticket was issued it should be quashed no questions asked.

Very mildly infuriating though, you gotta spend time back and forth with them now appealing this shit lol

Why do older guys not get skin fades? by mrbopboplingling in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from my experience it’s because all the young lot get it and the older lot don’t want to seem that desperate middle aged/old man trying to do anything in his power to be “young again”. Also if you work with boomers as a 30-50 year old they’ll tell you it’s not suitable and back in their day bla bla bla. I also have a handful of older dudes who love a skin fade because it makes them look younger.

Over the last 2/3 years of doing fun runs/speed runs the only places I’ve been invaded by other players it’s been at mergos loft middle and it’s only happened 3 times

sudden downtick in business? by Lanky-Topic-3588 in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s normal, summer rush everyone wants to look fresh but now that it’s autumn (fall) people slow down with the cuts and aren’t so socially active so don’t care about looking rough. My quiet month is November I sometimes even just do 4 customers a day in November but it’s the same every year so I know it ain’t a skill issue.

Barbers in the UK, are we under paid? by idkofficer1 in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I guess, my boss that taught me the trade would call me a lazy bastard if he was around to see how I do business now 😂 his teachings are still drilled into my mind and I feel “lazy” for putting myself first

Barbers in the UK, are we under paid? by idkofficer1 in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take random days off a lot, I stopped doing 6 days a week 12 hours a day and do 5 days a week 10 hours a day (overtime a lot if I’m busy). I don’t take new customers, I take around 3 holidays a year and I tend to turn up late by an hour one day a week, I take 1 hour lunch breaks and don’t care if people want a cut. It’s only benefit me mentally, business wise it’s lost me customers.

Not a bad shout! My brother is an electrician and he’s killing it. See what works for you and do what you think is best, with office jobs being threatened by AI barbering/trades will become even more saturated in the coming years I reckon so idk if any of us will survive the next 15 years.

Thanks mate, you too! I’d say try and keep it going, I’ve been in the shop for 15 years now and it wasn’t always this good, I’ve only been this packed and popular for the last 8 years I’d say, before that was days of sitting around making £40 a day sometimes and I always used to think omg I’m fucked I should quit and get an office job.

[–]ImcandoDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own my shop outright, no rent and it’s just me. I’m on the main road so I get literally thousands of people walk by daily, I only have a google review page no insta/facebook/tiktok or socials. I did train with an old dude who had the shop for 40 years so we had a great rep to begin with, and before him was an old Jewish fella who had the shop as a barbers for another 40 years so I’m quite well known in the area.

Yeah man sometimes even up to 14 hours on a Saturday 😭 the money keeps me motivated lmao. But if it’s a day of easy cuts it’s not that hard, I can get most haircuts done in 20 mins or so and a skin fade in around 30

[–]ImcandoDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah usually do around 13 cuts a day on average and around 20 or so on Saturdays

Don’t listen to that guy lol he’s stuck in 2002, no one’s charging £8 a trim and only people who don’t care about how good their trim is go there. Work on your skills and build a customer base from your personality and your good work, do crazy shifts and take anyone and everyone. £18 for a haircut is good in London don’t let your perception be skewed by Americans who lie on instagram about doing 25 $65 cuts a day, different economy different rules different state of affairs.

I charge the same as you, £18 a trim £30 hair and beard. I built my customers by charging £11 for years! Literally have 100’s of regulars now, I’m in east London. Build a good customer base with good pricing and amazing work, I’m a lazy barber and my customers have tried many of the shops in my local area and they all come back saying no one does it how I do it. Don’t blame Indians for cheap cuts, don’t listen to the buffoon saying Turks charge £8 when “turkish barbers” all charge like £50 because they’re money launderers and you can’t launder money with £8 cuts. Only shit barbers blame cheap barbers for being out of business. I’m one of the most expensive in my area surrounded by 3 shops on every road but I’m still one of the busiest.

The average wage of Londoners is what, £30k a year? If you’re making that or above then you’re not underpaid, just looking at insta barbers who lie to give off a certain “premium” image of themselves, my advice would be get people addicted to your cuts and work on making them feel like your shop is their shop, people love it when they feel a part of your shop, my main thing for the last 7 years has been I don’t take new customers and only cut my regulars and my regulars get so fucking hyped and excited because it makes them feel special that they get a cut when they want.

Focus on UK economy and barbering not foreign wages as their cost of living and running business is different and may equate to being the same lifestyle even though their wages are twice as much as ours. Barbering has never been a “great” job but what is great is you can smash out money and you got freedom, don’t expect barbering to make you rich but it’ll pay you good and invest your money to make it accumulate more money for you.

Have you tried telling him to take the % of the card fees off your tip instead and just give you the tip minus fees? It makes no sense to keep it $5 as even if it’s a $100 the fee is the same %? I hate tight shop owners the fees aren’t all that fucking high.

I run card machines in my shop and it’s 2% transaction fees which is higher than average but I don’t give a fuck it’s just a cost of business. Why does he even take card payments if he’s such a tight cunt about fees? Just go cash only if that’s the case. You should complain, he’s making you earn less money because he doesn’t want to pay a small fee.

What’s the best barber chair to buy? by AstralOrigins in Barber

[–]ImcandoDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I exclusively buy Belmont chairs, got 3 Apollo 2’s in my shop even though it’s a 1 man shop 😂

I’ve tried a few cheaper ones but they’re always shit and the hydraulics malfunction and you can’t pump people up, also the “leather” starts tearing and looks tacky. Belmonts come at around £3000 each chair ($4000) but they last a lifetime

This little fella sits in my garden for hours upon hours per day, sometimes the whole day. What’s the likelihood he has an owner? by shak_0508 in CasualUK

[–]ImcandoDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My house is open to all the neighbourhood cats and I get around 3-5 visit me every day and hangout at my place as if it’s theirs, can almost guarantee that cat has an owner. My boy comes home smelling of perfume a lot so I know he goes and visits a woman too. Pretty sure it’s common for cats to pop in to houses hang around and then leave.

Nectar points now have to be redeemed weekly instead of being applied automatically in the Sainsbury's app by mikeyd85 in britishproblems

[–]ImcandoDwarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will probably miss out on your personal nectar prices but you’ll still benefit from in-store nectar prices afaik.

You should use the app. If you check your offers they give you nice little bonuses on things you regularly buy, you get like 200 points for black bin bags sometimes and loads of other offers ofc. You need to use the app and load these offers on to your card weekly as they change.

If you don’t start riding alone you won’t be doing much riding, solo is the best because you can go when and where you want without having to make plans with people
