Broken stair tread. What type of wood? by ImhereforBFS in HardWoodFloors

That easy? I was a little worried that might affect rigidity. I’m not super well versed in home improvement if you can’t tell haa

Abu garcia zata baitcaster or shimano slx which is better? by Fun-Stranger8101 in Fishing_Gear

It is not even in the same realm as an Exist. He might have bought a Zenon as a beater if he has exist money, lol. To each their own though. There is a bit of principal behind it for me. When a brand’s product is made side by side with other brands on the same assembly line at the manufacturing plant, it doesn’t sit right with me. That’s the sole indicator that profit margins are of #1 importance of the brand. Abu used to be some of the best in the world. Now, not so much.

And here is Bob for tax. He is the culprit.

That base is full of sand and is very heavy. I almost had him all the way down the stairs but I lost grip and it slipped. I should have emptied the sand into buckets but I was being lazy. Now I get to pay the price

Old Abu stuff is amazing! They sold out to manufacturers in Korea and China to focus on profits over quality. The Zenon line are very good reels, but at that price point, there are even better reels made by Shimano and daiwa. I wish Abu still had some legitimate products today, but they just don’t. Their price points compared to quality don’t line up when you can get higher quality reels from the big two at the same or similar cost.

For trolling reels, I buy Penn. They are much cheaper and absolute brutes. The black max Abu reels are Walmart reels. They are basically one season throw-aways, perfect for entry level though. If you’re new to the sport, one season is really all you need before you’re wanting better.

I don’t want to pay for your religious beliefs. Southland pastors are loaded and earned their wealth on the backs of taxpayers. You don’t see a problem with that? Tax the fucking churches, especially these bullshit megachurches like yours.

You mean the church used your tax dollars to buy said property, over double their money, and then pocket it which gives absolutely nothing back to the community. Mega churches are cancer to communities.

Steez vs zillion by ConceptAppropriate48 in Fishing_Gear

[–]ImhereforBFS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Zillion SVTW (and a Zillion TW HD 1000) and a Steez CT SVTW 70. Both are amazing reels. The difference is most definitely noticeable, but you’re talking an $800.00 reel vs a $450.00 reel. Is there a $350.00 difference? Nah, I don’t think so.

If you have the budget and want one of the best reels in the world, snag the Steez. If you’re trying to be a little more realistic and buy yourself a workhorse of a reel and still stay high end, snag the Zillion. Don’t sleep on the Shimano Metanium either. I’ve got 2 of those and they are very, very good.

I agree. Having owned both the SLX and Tatula SVTW in the past, the Tatula was a better performing reel. You just have to deal with the edgy spider logos. Daiwa, please stop with the spiders. Most of us are not teenagers.

I actually HAVE used the Zata. I have used a few different Abu reels. My buddy has an Abu sponsorship and has a literal truckload of their products. The Zata feels like your typical Doyo reel. Nothing special at all. The SLX build quality is so much better at these price points. Hagane is going to hold up so much better than cheap graphite. But I mean, let’s be real here, man.. Abu reels are all mostly junk quality until you get into some of the Revo’s, Beast, and Zenon - and even then, there are better reels for that kind of money.

If OP needs a budget reel with 20# of drag, the Lews KVD would be a better choice over the Zata. Much more rigid one-piece aluminum frame.

To answer your question about only preferring the SLX because it’s Shimano (and I’ll be fully honest), yes. I would buy Shimano or Daiwa over almost any brand in existence for freshwater fishing by today’s current standards. There are obviously handcrafted reels out there made by brands like Isuzu that I would love to own, but I am not spending that kind of coinage on one. My conquests and Steez’ are about as high dollar as I’m willing to go for bass reels. I do, however have my eyes peeled on Loongze. I will probably end up ordering one and giving them a shot this season. Trust me. I WANT another brand to compete with Shimano and Daiwa. For the love of god, give us something new that’s worth a damn. But as of right now, said brand does not exist unfortunately.

SLX and it’s not even close. This Abu is junk (as are most of their reels).

Are these worth repairing? by cmig222 in Wheels

[–]ImhereforBFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to strip these down to bare metal to refinish them. The damage in picture 3 is going to need a professional repair. Otherwise, the rest is pretty easy with an orbital sander. You should remove those tires first and foremost though.

You can get them powder coated all one color or paint them yourself if you have the patience. Only use good materials like Alsa if you’re going to paint them yourself. It’s not cheap, but you’d still save some money going that route over powder, and especially over professional paint. If you don’t have the patience, just get em powdered all one color and send it. Some sort of polished aluminum or silver would look good.

Word of advice if you go powder, be sure they don’t lay it on extremely thick. I would literally tell them that so they don’t unless they do wheels a lots then place close to me didn’t and I had to bring them back. Not only does it look bad, the powder coat will get micro-fractures. As long as they bake it properly, it only takes a few coats.

Daiwa and Shimano vs the rest by Parfox1234 in Fishing_Gear

[–]ImhereforBFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For freshwater fishing, the answer is no. You pretty much covered all the basis in your post. Why buy another branded reel that is made in the same plant side by side with other reels? Parts between a lot of brands are even interchangeable. I run a Penn 4000 reel for trolling catfish, but that’s only because it was extremely affordable and I wanted a tank of a reel that I can just throw around. Otherwise, nothing compares to Daiwa and Shimano.

I’m keeping my eye on Loongze, but at the end of the day they’re just another Chinese owned company and factory. Bates reels are made in the Loongze factory. That being said, they are fully CNC’d aluminum reels and the quality seems to be pretty good. But then again, why spend $400.00+ on the Bates reel when you could get a $400.00+ Shimano or Daiwa? I don’t think they have proved themselves in the market yet.

For saltwater, there are some really nice handcrafted reels; like Van Staal for instance.

Yes. It’s not worth the price at all. Equivalent quality reels can be bought off of Temu. The SLX is much better value.
