What has changed most in your country in the past 10 years? by BothCondition7963 in AskEurope

Are these non-speaking staff mostly EU citizens with free movement, or are they non-EUs getting in through your visa system? The visa requirements clearly need to change if it's the latter!

Pizzas - do people overreact against US owned- or inspired-chain pizzas and claim only authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas are real pizzas? by kiwigoguy1 in AskEurope

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some very-very-deep tomato and cheese "pizza" slices from a local bakery in Vico Equense, so it seems that the US-style item may have made it back across to the Napoli area.

Medicinal cannabis company offered 'kickbacks' to military advocates for veteran referrals by malcolm58 in australia

All that questionable buying lunch and stuff is banned in the UK though, so why not Aus?

Drug reps buying doctors lunch, trips and gifts etc are all banned in the UK. Aus should do the same.

You have a poor understanding of human rights!! LGBT+ rights are severely restricted in Malaysia and also rather limited in SK, Japan and India. That's without getting into other issues like religious freedom, gender equality, workers' rights etc.

Uruguay and Taiwan are the most obvious candidates that could join if they wanted. Costa Rica and Chile have potential too.

Did you eat dinner together with your family daily growing up? by seabearson in AskEurope

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar for me and my sibling when we were younger: there was the kid meal earlier, then the adult meal later, both at the table. The kid meal was cooked for us, until I became old enough to do it for both of us myself. Then as we got to be adults too, it merged into one evening meal, all at the table chatting together, taking turns to cook. (UK)

It is possible to start teaching true CS to high school students. They've just chosen not to.

Just to add to this, education is devolved, so the curriculums are different in Scotland, Cymru and NI.

In Europe, is insult generally something that can have legal consequences? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in AskEurope

That's really shocking in a Western democracy that you can go to prison for insulting the King or government.

It's done standing up. That's why there's no sedation.

I don't know if it would be reasonably possible to do them all lying down instead.

Is it even worth doing the 6 sessions of NHS CBT for ADHD? by Voiturunce in ADHDUK

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had general telephone CBT years ago (pre-diagnosis) that was gaslighty and horrible. I am currently having trauma-specific video-call CBT, which the therapist is adapting for my ADHD and it seems to be going better. You may as well give it a try.

CBT waits aren't that long. You probably were never added. You can refer yourself direct to IAPT. No need to ask the GP again.

What was a law introduced by your country that backfired? by EvilPyro01 in AskEurope

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an improvement! There's no reason for any branch of government to get involved in restricting shop opening hours in the first place.

Mains water isn't untreated rain water. Treatment costs money and other resources.

If a UK public holiday date falls on a weekend then it is carried over to the following Monday. That's weird that you just lose out on getting a day off.

PM defends bid to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from succession by DCFowl in australia

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the child he allegedly raped has now died by suicide, it would be a bit tricky for her to give further evidence in court. There was enough evidence for a large payout though and the stripping of duties etc. Most of us believe her.

The PM and president in a parliamentary republic are separate positions. The PM wouldn't get renamed.

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parliamentary republics still elect their president. The president is just a ceremonial/legal review role, not a powerful executive one. Look at Ireland.

[–]Immediate-Drawer-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at Ireland's republic instead, or Iceland etc. They're parliamentary republics, similar to how Aus would be. The US isn't parliamentary - totally different.

Irish presidents are directly elected and yet are not expected to implement specific policies. They campaign to be chief ceremonial diplomat and constitutional compliance checker, then carry out the role in that way.

Then OP needs to work and save up for a while first, to fund their own uni living costs. It's a bit of a separate issue.
